Where is Enchantment?

Oh yes, I do see her now, heading West for Hampton Roads at 21kt.

Anyone know....

Are they heading for Baltimore? If so, they will probably be in Baltimore Friday Morning.

Is there another cruise scheduled before the one leaving on 1 November?

EN sails every week. usually 6 and 7 day Itineraries to Bermuda, Bahamas or NE. the day she pulls in to port, she pulls right back out again in the afternoon.

our last Bermuda cruise left on a Friday and returned the following Thursday

Well. something strange is going on.

I saw Enchantment OTS come into Hampton Roads this afternoon from out at sea.

The ship came in and docked at the Norfolk Marine Terminal and is now reversing its track and heading out to sea again throught the Bay Bridge Tunnel.

This doesn't seem like a typical thing for Enchantment to be doing?

Anyone know whats up?

With the path of Sandy heading right for the mid atlantic states... where does EN go? Sandy is bearing down on us, expected to arrive Monday, it doesn't seem like enough time for the ship to get to Baltimore and back out without really rough seas... would they really delay returning until after the storm passes?

We board in 3 weeks... hopefully it's close enough to the end of hurricane season for us to have no problems.

Medical emergency maybe but now going back out to sea so they can open up the casino and shops for last night spending?

Shore side labor has been ordered to work Enchantment tomorrow at 7am. She would have to sail up the Bay from Norfolk around 9 pm,since it's about 10 trip up the bay.

With that said she is sailing very slowly around 8 knts. I wonder if she is having engine problems

Show her track on AIS and you will see she was doing 21 knots earlier today with no problems so looks like engines were fine then.

Hi, we are leaving tomorrow 26th out of Baltimore on Enchantment,, going to Bermuda, (hopefully)

If your cruise starts on 26th a typical move would be to be at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, late in the evening of the 25th.

The trip from the Bridge Tunnel to Baltimore is about 8 hours.

So what the heck is Enchantment doing heading out to sea right now?

Just checked and she is doing around 8 knts

Yes, she is doing 8 knots now probably because it's dinner time.

If you show her track on AIS, she was running at 21 knots when she came in earlier today and was doing 16 knots when she headed back out. While she is currently doing 8 knots, it doesn't look to be an engine issue.

When we sailed here this past July she did not slow down that much if at all. So that's why the speculation on my part.

But one thing for sure the mystery grows.

FYI As of 4 pm today Port of Norfolk is now in Code Whiskey by the USCG. This is pretty much hurricane warning ,so start making preparations. Baltimore is on alert and not under any codes at this point, but that could change by tomorrow.

nope. she's prolly being rerouted cuz of Sandy (the wench.)

ETA: I'll have to ask the spousal unit but I THINK the max speed inside the bay is fairly low and she can't open up the engines until past the BBtunnel. IIRC our transit along he Bay was pretty sedate through the Key Bridge and points beyond.

It's safer for ships to be at sea than in port during hurricane-sized storms.

Yes, they'll get tossed about a bit, but there isn't any danger of the lines snapping, or their getting bashed into (or even up ONTO) the pier itself.

While Norfolk and Baltimore are both relatively protected harbors, close passes or direct hits from hurricanes nullifies any protection those harbors provide.

And yes, there is a speed limit for large ships inside Chesapeake Bay. I just don't know what it is off the top of my head.

Just checked as she did a U turn and is now going north
Well that supports the earlier theory that she snuck out beyond the 12nm limit to reopen the casino to sheer the flock a little while longer, while loitering in the area to make her normal transit up to Baltimore overnight.

Actuaaly the casinos open up after she passes the Key Bridge in Baltimore
