britney7155 Posted August 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2014 I am 18 & I'm cruising with carnival in September. Our destination is the Bahamas, where the legal drinking age is 18. While I know I can't drink on the boat until I'm 21, can I drink on the boat while it is in the port at the bahamas? And also, can I drink during excursions and such? alcpa1 Posted August 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2014 You cannot imbibe on the ship at any time. You can find alcoholic beverages while in port in Nassau. There are quite a few restaurants near the straw market where you will exit the ship.
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 1, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 1, 2014 This is correct. The age 21 requirement applies to the ship regardless of whether you are at sea or in port on this cruise. keith
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 1, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic. No matter whether the ship is at sea or docked, you can not drink on the ship. Also be careful how much you drink while on land.
leaveitallbehind Posted August 1, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 1, 2014 As others have indicated, off the ship in ports of call at the local legal age only.
DonnaK Posted August 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Under 21, you cannot drink on the ship at all. You also cannot drink on ship sponsored excursions regardless of the drinking age in the port. You can drink in the port on your own or on a privately arranged excursion. leaveitallbehind Posted August 1, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Of course you can drink in port. ...but not on the ship while in port, which is what she asked.:)
jammen Posted August 2, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 2, 2014 21 is correct when drinking on the ship. Whatever you do in the ports, be alert when drinking at each port.
sail7seas Posted August 2, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 2, 2014 As a young person who presumably is not accustomed to much drinking, be aware of your surroundings and only take enough cash for the day. Don't carry all your money ashore. Watch the time and be certain to return to the ship in plenty of time prior to sailing. I can't tell you how many young, clearly inebriated cruisers we have watched racing down the dock long after they were expected to be aboard. Some were lucky and made it just in time. Others not so lucky and they did not get on the ship. Be careful. :)
