  1. You have to pay a single supplement if you are cruising alone in the room which is almost the full cost of the cruise for 2 (less port fees and taxes)? You don't specify if there is more than 2 in the room or not but since you said his 1/2 I assume it was just the 2 of you.? However, if you do make a change to the room now you will be subject to change fees and also if the rate has changed and has gone up it will cost you more overall. If they are going to pay their part anyhow, I would take the money and just have them be a no show. Be advised, port fees and taxes will be returned if they no show (which you could then return to them when you are reimbursed). If you do decide to drop them, then your single cruise will be repriced at the current rate plus single supplement which most certainly will be higher, plus likely change fees. This means you would end up paying the full amount of the room pretty much on your own that you would for the 2 of you being in it, or more. Also, more than likely if they cancelled they would not get a $ refund, but a future cruise credit only.
  2. If that is what the rate on your screen shows then it should be correct. OBC can be used for anything on board.
  3. Just as an FYI, Yes there are always items each evening that carry over to buffet.
  4. So just 5 days to sailing and checked and the gauge hasn't moved much, still left: 2 Villas 7 Cabana's Private Oasis sold out now
  5. If switching as you said, I would switch rooms then go to your muster station. The new sail and sign cards they print for you will have the correct muster station on them once guest services reissue them. Show them your card for your muster and they will scan and you will be good to go.
  6. We used it on 1 cruise with family. It did work for the most part for the $5; however, I will say we did have occasions where even with the app open the messages were delayed considerably - over 20/30 minutes. So if you are texting someone and saying "hey where are you" cause you want to find them, it can be a delayed response 😄
  7. We usually always ad $15-$20 in the Steakhouse and then like $10 in the others.
  8. Yep, we ONLY do carry on - and when I say that I mean "LEGIT" carry on. Like by airplane standard since we have to fly for every cruise.. Even an up to an 8 day cruise! Just for this reason. Those who drive have it way easier because you can take a bigger suite case on then airplane regulations allow. So if you drive you most certainly could carry on your suite case (barring it being some gigantic thing).
  9. To extend this thought, there is an upcharge now if I am not mistaken for more than 2 of an entrée. NO more ALL you can eat on those.
  10. Feel exactly the same way, we used to LOVE HMC because we would get a Cabana and relax for the day in "luxury" (use that term loosely here). Now, at these prices, don't think we will be looking for trips that stop there. Also agree on Freeport and Falmouth!
  11. Thank you for the correction. It was a brain fart. I said Drivers License and Photo Id (which are the same thing) I mean Drivers Licenses and Birth Certificate. I mentally walked in the basement as I was typing, happens when you get old.
  12. People do it ALL the time. You will fit right in. My mom and I did a cruise together one time, and she made them for us too! I don't think I have been on one cruise where I didn't see them. 😁
  13. You may not have the cabin assigned until you arrive at port, this happened to us once, and we booked further out then you have. Best case check right before you leave to go and see if you have a room (you will need to check your booking, they will NOT email you). Sounds like an adventrue to be telling stories about for a long time. A
  14. That's it, Whatsapp, I couldn't remember the name!
  15. Hoping it comes through for you! Really need to try to find a PVP, they can adjust those for you on the spot with a call 😉
  16. There are some "free" apps you can use to facetime people too I believe on the social plan. I am pretty sure my sister in law to be did something like that on the ship and talked to her kids each night.
  17. If you are going to get an upgrade of any kind, it will likely be in your specific category - not to a whole other category. Meaning a Balcony starts out at an 8A (which you likely paid slightly less than what this would have cost you straight up by purchasing a "guarantee" room), you might end up in an 8B or 8C or something like that. Slightly higher deck in more favorable location (which they consider middle better than ends). We have done it maybe 5 or 6 times. Most times been very happy with room, and got "upgrades" as I mentioned above. Only once not happy with room location, but that's the chance you take to get the better price.
  18. Yep, I did. Doesn't apply for buying the gift card. You have to use the card direct for the travel. Don't get the insurance benefit if you have that step in the middle.
  19. GIRL you have my deepest sympathies. NO vacation should be so stressful!
  20. Interesting. So like Amazon or Walmart (or Carnival) they are held accountable to the state the do business in. That could get sketchy. A lot of these big companies do business in every state. Which rule would apply? Very intriguing
  21. Not making excuses. Again, just fact. I agree utter BS. However, we all (obviously) are on this forum because we all cruise with them. We choose to do this. They have good points and bad. That's my point in all this. I can choose to spend my money elsewhere. They (and the passengers) do things that peeve me off all the time. At this point I choose to stay. No one is forcing me. You can sit back and demand change and witch about changes you aren't happy with, but all you are doing is tilting at windmills. The reality is what it is.
  22. Agreed, other than the fact that I don't think anyone has said it was the customer's fault. It's about expectation and reality. Reality is Carnival is not adept at processing refunds. They are slow, make mistakes, and sometimes miss it all together. So if you lead with that expectation, it makes for a lot less stress on yourself. NOT saying I support the fact that they suck at it, but that is just the fact of life we have to deal with if we choose to do business with them. There should be no surprise in this matter.
  23. OK, I had to go look it up because you said it. For my own knowledge so I can use it as ammo if I am fighting with someone over a refund. I know you are a lawyer, but all the legal reference I see say that states may have laws on refund time periods; however, there are no federal laws that stand on this issue. So, in your state maybe it is 30 days? Carnival flies flags from other countries to avoid a lot of the red tape, and I will bet you that would apply too.
  24. PS: I have been in the same boat and cancelled something close to cruising for whatever reason. When I do it though I know I likely may not have the funds by the time I sail, and just expect to use it next time If it shows up, bonus - if not I am not stressing. Not cheerleading, quite the opposite. I have resigned myself to the fact that they are not always the most efficient organization so I lead with that expectation.
  25. I think you mistook what I said in my quote as that was a bit harsh. I read all your posts, and I understand why you cancelled when you did. My comment was not a criticism, just the fact. You cancelled close to your cruising date (reason is your own business), because you were in such a narrow window being that close and expecting without fail that it would be back in time is overly hopeful. That was my only point. I would never have waited 30 days the first time. If I had not had my refund in two weeks I would have been calling to inquire. But I also think the fact that you don't have it in a week and a half and seem very upset by this is a bit knee jerk (facilitated I am sure because of your bad experience already and really wanting to have those funds to take with you).
