  1. @teacherman, this is excellent advice. When looking for a plan for your state of residence the key items are: Primary medical coverage so you don't have to file with Medicare first. If your "secondary" is a Medigap letter plan that offers limited foreign emergency travel coverage, then this is critical. If not it just save you hassles and time if you have to make a claim. $100K is usually a good minimum for medical coverage. For your type of trips the evac limits of most plans should not be a concern. Find a plan that will waive pre-existing conditions. Many people have one without realizing it. Even if you don't, you won't have to give the insurer access to all of your medical records to prove an incident was not related to a pre-existing condition. If you will take at least three 7 day trips in a year, you might also want to look at a GeoBlue Trekker annual plan. The essential plan should cost $294 per year for the two of you with a $200 annual deductible for non-network providers. At your ages, it is $100K of coverage per year, not per trip.
  2. You are right, a Google search gives lots of choices, but your lunch list is near the top of most other lists. Are you willing to recommend a couple more (seafood) for dinner. We are in Portland from 11 am til 11 pm in mid October. Plus my wife and daughter are in Maine this week and they plan on stopping in Portland on their drive south.
  3. Are you sure about this and do you have personal experience with meta upgrades? Here is why I ask. We usually book through a TA. Depending on the ship we sometimes book guarantees, but when we select a cabin we usually tell him "No Upgrade". On our last cruise we ended up booking through princess.com for probably the first time ever. We selected an ocean view cabin and I never noticed any place to provide an upgrade choice. A few days later we received an email telling us we have been upgraded. It was a higher category cabin, but it was one we chose not to book the first time, because to us it was inferior. I called Princess and asked to be moved back to back to our original cabin. They told me they could put in a request (which was eventually honored), but they could not guarantee it was still available. They asked me if I wanted the reservation to be marked "No Upgrade" to avoid this happening again. I said to mark it "Meta Upgrade" as we would be happy with any balcony, but we did not want a different ocean view. The agent said that was not an option, it was either "Upgrade" or "No Upgrade". I tried this because I had seen posts on cruise critic talking about meta upgrades.
  4. One thing you might want to try is deleting the app from your phone and reinstalling, even if it says you have the latest version. We did this last month on a cruise to both an Android and an Apple phone. Magically, most, if not all of our many problems disappeared. We did not have your exact issue, but it is an easy thing to try. I still have a lot of issues with the app, but at least everything functioned.
  5. I have been looking at this for our upcoming cruise that begins in Quebec City and ends in Florida. Based on what I understand you will need two ArriveCAN submissions Before initially boarding the cruise from NYC Before boarding your flight from NYC back to Canada https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise
  6. I don't know, but you might want to post this on the Disney Cruise Line forum as it is a primarily a Disney question. Also update your profile with where you live. Or at least state your location in your repost on the Disney forum. The policies are different depending on country. Your wording is word for word from the "Terms and Conditions for Residents of the United Kingdom and the European Union". Also take a look at https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/contracts-terms-safety/terms-conditions/UK/ where they define terms. I don't want to attempt to interpret the following for your hypothetical scenario. “Unavoidable and Extraordinary Circumstances” means a situation beyond the control of Disney Cruise Line or the relevant supplier or party who invokes a situation which could not have been avoided even if reasonable measures had been taken including (without limitation) serious technical or security problems, war or threat of war, terrorist activity or the threat of terrorist activity, riots, civil commotion, disaster, Act of God, nuclear event or disaster, natural disasters such as fire, floods or earthquakes, closure of ports or airports, strikes or other industrial action, medical problems on board the ship or at intended ports or other travel destinations, including, in each case, incidents of infectious or other diseases or illnesses, lawful deviation at sea in response to a distress call or other emergency and adverse weather conditions and the effects of Brexit, and any governmental or regulatory response to such situations which makes it impossible to perform the Contract.
  7. I have not found anything else, but I can't recall a time when there wasn't a European outlet behind the bed in any of our outside or balcony cabins. Sometimes the outlet is being used by a table lamp. But with the right adapter, you can plug the table lamp back in and still get a 2 pronged USA outlet. This works for a CPAP or any dual voltage device with a two pronged plug. I have never been on the Island, and the Coral was so long ago so I can't guarantee that my experience is what you will find on the Island.
  8. Was it one coffee package on each medallion? I hope so, but your wording is not clear. In the prehistoric days it did not matter because you got two physical cards that you could use any way you wanted.
  9. I believe my answer #31 is accurate for all of the current Princess ships. Given this was asked in the Princess forum, I did not qualify my answer for other lines. So if the OP was looking for other ships, then the suggestion to look at the deck plans should work across all lines. 😁
  10. Unless you purchased Viking's insurance, you should be fine. Assuming you met the purchase requirements (for possibly purchase date and trip amount) any third party policy that I have seen will cover you based on your stated trip dates. Viking's plan will not cover things such as trip interruption and trip delay for the period you are on your own. If you bought their plan, definitely check on medical and medical evacuation coverage while off the ship.
  11. We were on the Caribbean July 2-9. Steve Holland replaced Tim Stringer during our voyage. I have not heard anything to indicate he is not still the captain.
  12. Sprite Zero is in cans only. Package is for fountain soda only.
  13. Lots of responses to the title of your post. Here is the answer to the question in your post: ODD numbered cabins are on the starboard (right) side and EVEN numbered cabins are on the port (left) side. For any cabins not on the port or starboard side (i.e. forward and aft facing and some insides), the numbers follow the same rules based on location relative to the ship center line. If the cabin splits the center line, all the ones I have seen are ODD, but there may be exceptions.
  14. For a seven day cruise I agree, when the app works. If you have to call PCL, it could be a bigger hassle. Especially for a longer cruise, I wish I could use either pre-paid gift cards or some of the significant OBCs I often get. In order to do that I have to wait until I board the ship, and it is at a higher price. In the whole scheme of things with the 50% discount you only save $2.50 per day per person by pre purchasing. But I still wish Princess would let me use the money I have already spent instead of new money.
  15. How recent was your cruise? We had the same situation in February and July on the Sky and Caribbean . In Feb, the internet manager gave us the credit for the extra dollars we had to pay. In July, he would not. Different ships and different people. My impression from my experience and other posts, is they are not are not giving credits any more. That is why I was curious. If your cruise was recent, maybe people can still get a credit with the right ship and internet manager.

  17. Plenty of pdfs with itinerary details on this thread:
  18. I have been reading through some of the recent posts. IMHO post 12 was spot on. Some of the other posts since then have provided good information but often left out a minor piece that could be critical to a neophyte who is trying to make everything work aboard ship. Here are a few of my comments: Anyone who completely understands this post, and how to accomplish all of the items above will be fine aboard ship. The only thing I will add is you should also understand how to put your phone in airplane mode as noted below. Traditionally you are correct, but there are exceptions depending on your phone brand and your phone carrier. See comments below. That is one exception. For it to work you must be connected to wi-fi (phone function), AND logged into the INTERnet. iMessage only works between Apple devices. Yes you can if you meet the criteria I just mentioned. It will definitely work, and the airplane mode advice is excellent. If your are not in airplane mode it might be worse than international data or calling. Depending on your phone plan, you could be paying Princess rates which are usually higher than most international rates. Correct for iMessage. However, if you are on Android you may be able to text (SMS and possibly MMS) over wifi and the INTERnet. It all depends on what is supported by your phone and carrier. Once you have it setup, it may be automatic or you may have to tweak settings. I can do it on my phone and my Verizon plan. How you do it will vary and is beyond the scope of this discussion.
  19. Platinum/elite get the 50% off the prevailing price whether you purchase before boarding or after you are on the ship. The base price is higher onboard. For one device the base price is $10/day before boarding or $15/day after you board. At one point, they were a little loose with the policy, but based on our recent experience and other postings, you will not get the pre-board price unless you actually book it before boarding.
  20. Great, and I do appreciate what you are doing. I just reposted your list with the instructions for the next person. Maybe it will help future posters, and maybe some will continue to copy the instructions 😀
  21. Do what you are comfortable with, but people are sometimes losing some of your work when you post as a quote. They need to expand the quote and realize it has updates. Then trying to update the quote sometimes adds more challenges. I agree that the original instructions were the best way to do it. Here they are from post #1. TO UPDATE THIS LIST: DO NOT push the "Quote" button. It creates a copy that the next person cannot properly update. DO select and copy ALL of the text, including the above headings AND these instructions, from the most up-to-date list (the most recent reply with the list). Go to the bottom of the latest post, to the "Post a Reply" box. Paste your copied text into that box. Make your modifications to the list. Click the "Submit Reply" button just below the list you are modifying. Confirm that everything is correct! You can edit for up to 20 minutes. Edit: I see the "Post a Reply" box is now called "Reply to this topic..." I think the other bullets are still good. Leaving instructions (bullet 2) with each new table posting is not a bad idea, but on most other threads like this, they eventually disappear.
  22. Thanks for doing these updates 😀. In the future you might want to put your updated table in a new post as opposed to inside a quoted post. I have now seen at least two recent cases where someone else posts an updated table using last table from a new post and misses updates made in a quoted post.
