Capt_BJ replied to jed1207229's topic in Florida Departures
ask front desk to request two van type taxi (they don't cost more) POOF next question -
FYI drove from the Port area to MCO area and back today on 528 ..... had around a dozen SPLATS when I got back (went thru the car wash - flat rate monthly fee for washes) these happened in the 'swamp' section between DALLAS Road and SR-520 .... have yet to see one in the beach area. OTOH ... an oldie

not to be argumentative but YES ..... I fully suspect folks would buy this and not read the label. I bought this stuff in a standard spray bottle - looked like a bottle of windex - but fortunately I KNEW from previous exposure what the 'useable' color should be and read the label and found that dilution was required. Tell me ... what other product comes in a bottle where you should pour out half or more? The spray bottle contained full strength SG and using this is a BAD idea. I've seen some folks REALLY screw up their car . . .

if you search this topic you'll find my MANY posts on this topic ..... the local BIG THREE run specials back and forth to be the lowest. If you find under $12 you're doing good. You MIGHT hit $10

the distance to be traveled is about 24 nautical miles from Port of Tampa cruise terminal to the bridge. Now an average cruise ship can travel at 20 knots making this a trip of a lil over 1 hour (1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour.) A cruise ship will typically NOT run full speed thru restricted waters such as narrow channels as exist immediately leaving the port .... IME sailing from Tampa is was closer to two hours from departure .... 6 to 630pm and the Captain made an announcement well before arriving at the bridge. But early seating dinner WAS impacted . . . <Tampa Bay has a bad history of significant marine 'incidents' and full speed ahead is very seriously frowned upon .... I was a serving USCG Officer stationed here for the USCGC BLACKTHORN sinking (loss of life) and the knock down of the bridge (loss of life) ... not much later there was a case of two barges running into each other <no big deal> each carrying gasoline <now a big deal> .... TAMPA BAY now takes ship control VERY seriously . . .

Departure and boarding tomorrow will be a zoo
Capt_BJ replied to orville99's topic in Royal Caribbean International
first launch of a new toy ...... come on ... it ain't NEVER gonna go the first try!!!!! OTOH SPACEX tossing their lil birds up a couple of times a month .... HIGH probability of an on time launch. ULA and DELTA's ... somewhere in between depending on the DELTA configuration. The more complicated the higher the probability for trouble. I've watched launches from my pool for 15 odd years now . . . -

haven't seen first one for fall season around Canaveral yet .... they were very light in the spring ..... ****************** Simple Green works well for removing them. keep a spray bottle and cleaning rag in my vehicle. diluted simple green will strip any wax from your finish ... full strength simple green can remove paint .... I'm a person who cares about and takes care of his cars and I'm not guessing .... I've EXPERIENCED!!!!! ..... I recommend a VERY weak solution (BASIC Simple Green is usually sold as a concentrate and dilution is MOST important ... read the label ... for heavy duty cleaning they recommend a 1:1 dilution, 1 cup SG, one cup water ..... they never recommend FULL STRENGTH ... general purpose is 1oz SG to 1 cup water which is 1:10)

Getting to Miami port from bright line station
Capt_BJ replied to cb2367's topic in Florida Departures
it is possible but you'd have to cross the bridge (up and over) that connects the mainland to Dodge Island - the port and depending on who you are sailing your walk could be nearly 2.5 miles .... and the port isn't really set up for foot traffic and car/truck traffic is heavy .... i'd taxi/uber -

but the restaurants that do only offer gator bites. in general I agree ... most places sell gator bites or nuggets which are breaded and hard to tell from McNuggets! HOWEVER this past weekend while down in West Palm Beach visited a newish BBQ place which had Gator sausage prepared in the traditional BBQ place sausage style (wood smoked) and it was GOOD . . . https://www.eattropical.com/ just sayin' ... yep it ain't Orlando ... but there's better out there!!

Looking for a beach front hotel in Cocoa Beach
Capt_BJ replied to hrmkr's topic in Florida Departures
editorial comment from a local: most of the beachfront property in Cocoa Beach is taken by condo and not hotel properties. The selection of water front is slim . . . There are many that are just one building off the beach ..... -

Who sailed on the Bahama Star
Capt_BJ replied to goldenrod's topic in What Ever Happened To........???
From Bahama Star / Emerald Seas ... early 70's .... Miami to Nassau ..... Grand Parents had taken grand kids and were doing some math . . . -
travel hint .... long line at the pool bar and you have thirst ... gaze off to horizon, point and say "whales" ... as everyone proceeds in direction you pointed you are now only one in line at the bar & proceed to order your libation. Part two .... listen to the dinner conversations all around you later that evening: "did you see the whales this afternoon?" "Yes, magnificent there were 4 I believe ..." "I saw 6 plus a baby" important not to laugh out loud . . . ***************** near Port Au Prince Haiti
