whoops wrong ship

A transatlantic is currently underway, with mask protocol instituted. But most guests in a quandary, as COVID doesn't seem to be the problem, but Norovirus. Do they know Norovirus is spread by touch???? They need to be forthcoming with info, rather than left the news to rumours.

Working remotely while cruising - any ideas??
3Shelaghs replied to karscott's topic in Canadian Cruisers
Opening work files seems risky to me, esp if they are security driven. Our rule of thumb told to us by the bank is never to open your bank account remotely, too many security risks within the server you are attached to. I am assuming same goes with sensitive work files? Not to mention unsuspecting downloading of virus's to your computer or actual work location. It reminds me of the knock off charging cords for laptops or iPads etc. A group has found a way to implant a chip into these cheap cords, and fill them with viruses, infecting your system. (Note, always buy the same brand accessories, expensive yes) Of course there is probably no way of circumventing any of this stuff, so "tech up with the good equipment" and go forth and report back how "good the wifi is onboard".....LOL In my experience, ...... use wifi in the wee hours of the morning when everyone is asleep???????? -
Thoughts re EU fuel shortage&/or Russian escalation
3Shelaghs replied to 3Shelaghs's topic in Canadian Cruisers
I wondered about ramifications for European river cruises. Hotels, trains etc etc. Then remembered way back when, there was a disclaimer on cruises, "if barrel of crude went above a certain price, that was tacked onto your cruise even after booking/paying etc". Wondered if they still do that? Why the difference in fuel for close to shore vs out at sea? -
Does anyone know if cruise lines have issued any statements re potential EU fuel supply issues, or possible escalation of Russian/Ukraine conflict affecting river cruises or Baltic/Scandinavian waters?

WOW !!! What is up with Amsterdam hotels??
3Shelaghs replied to 3Shelaghs's topic in British Isles/Western Europe
Yes, Toronto's Pride wknd is huge too. The only thing close to SAIL, is our Tall Ships arrival, but SAIL looks outstanding! Just received an email from a hotel, and rates haven't been set yet. Possibly end of October!! I can't imagine the EU cardiologists all coming for a convention. Snorefest supremo, but maybe they hone up on educational news????? Thanks all for tips/comments -

Weโre very flexible with dates/times, but unfortunately direct flights from Canada arenโt plentiful. We donโt need a deal in airfare, just a schedule where everything slides into a slotโฆ.hotel precruise, post cruise, car rental, and direct flights.๐ I always book flights first, but the pandemic has limited our options. Our flights to Florida next month have been changed by airline 4x thus farโฆโoperational necessitiesโ. โฆ..frustrating and a huge consumption of time scrambling to make changesโฆโฆI miss the good old days of travel ease. -
Attempting to book a hotel room in August. Most coming up with "sold out". I emailed one and asked, they explained a EU Cardiology Convention... there sure must be a ton of people coming! I also thought maybe next years booking engines are turned off this far out, but doesn't seem to be a consistent reason for these hotels to blocked off huge blocks. Cruise line charges for hotels booked with them is ridiculous. And they charged your credit card immediately upon booking (it's not a hold). One room is triple the cost and it's charged per pax. I know in the past it was always nuts to book a room with the cruise line but really????? Can't book air until I've got somewhere decent to lay my head before embarkation. Thoughts....................

Ongoing until Oct 12, 2022. I'm not surprised some are seeing and some not.... huge issues with their website for past couple of weeks, I also noticed, not all cruises "Have it All" noted on their initial pages.

Speaking of ....... I've read Scenic is a relaxed attire cruise, but I'm seeing jackets and ties in photos/videos. DH is now officially sworn off jackets, but will agree to hump it overseas if he is the odd man out. What are pax observing at the dinner table. (majority of pax) -
Ok thanks ๐

Another question for nota mermaid........ last time my son lived in Germany and Switz, he required a vignette for the car (yearly), a recent poster says this is not so? Can you elaborate?

I always describe it this way..... I am a "seasoned ocean cruiser", I am adventurous, but starting to see the advantages of gearing down, being of same age group. We have travelled a good portion of the world, and here it comes............"wish we had discovered river cruising much earlier in life. We always felt no trip was a waste of money, but once we sampled river cruising, we sincerely wish we hadn't wasted so much money on ocean cruising"!!! You will love it! We always tack on days pre and post to savour more of certain areas. I also don't eat fish or seafood, and find the meals very good!

Frankfurt train station?? Are there some problems? If one had a day, would you spend it in Frankfurt or Mainz?? -
Donโt forget, if both parents not travelling with kids, the missing parent must provide letter of permission for them to travel with you.

Why NEXUS Offices Remain Closed in Canada
3Shelaghs replied to Fouremco's topic in Canadian Cruisers
Hmm.. they renewed our cards without a new interview, and we have iris scans not facial recognition from initial application. How will this be managed? A turn around time frame, or will we be pooched at the Nexus line? -
Well, Scenic web site still on and off... totally fed up with their lack of tech experts to fix this issue. When it comes time for payment, how do I do that???? Surely I don't have to wait on phone for 2hours for an agent to answer, then give my CC over the phone? Or should I email one of the email addresses I have, and ask them to call me? Why on my Booking Advice form under Booking Payment Information is there a "click here to make a payment"???? When I originally made deposit (2019), I actually did provide payment online. What am I missing, or what has Scenic dropped the ball on??? Maybe this cruise will turn into a driving holiday! And I'll kiss the deposit goodbye.
