  1. As a long suffering Canucks fan it hope in the post season has been a longtime coming. The team is struggling a little with a few injuries right now but all should be clear come game 1 of the first series.
  2. I'm glad you are reaching the end of what has obviously been a terrible ordeal. You were so supportive of your mother and father in their last years you deserve a little bit of peace and joy. Hopefully, you are able to complete the move to FL soon. Don't worry about anger spilling over in onto CC. We all have our moments.
  3. I know several people who charge only at Superchargers. I think the cost is about double of the normal elctricity charge would be if you are charging at home. Your costs would still be substantially cheaper than paying CA gas prices.
  4. You can get a $7500 Fed rebate in the US right now on "some" EV's. Tesla Y is one of the ones getting the rebate and why we have considered it. We looked at the Ford Mustang mach-e but they lost there rebate for whatever reason and so Ford offered 0% financing in lieu of that. However, if you aren't financing or not financing very much of the purchase price you don't get much advantage from that.
  5. Very good synopsis. I will try and add as best I can, being as apolitical and I can. As an avid lover of the outdoors I have always been an advocate of conservation and measured harvesting on natural resources. However, the current political climate has subverted conservationism and is demanding mandates that are unsustainable by any reasonable metric. In the interest of full disclosure I am currently considering purchasing an EV. I was test driving a Tesla Y last week and will likely purchase one in the near future. However, I currently live in Southern California an no longer reside in my former "home and native land". Electric cars have problems in Canada, I'll catalog just a few. Firstly they have severely compromised range when operated below freezing. Most tests indicate a 30% - 40% decrease in range at temps 30° (-1° C) to 19° (-7° C) . When those temps hit -20 or -25, which is very real in most parts of Canada, it gets even worse. The obvious problem is that large parts of Canada experience real winter conditions for very extended periods of time. Secondly the expanse of Canadian geography and traveling around outside major metro areas renders EV's impractical. The absence viable charging makes anything but local commuting in metropolitan areas extremely difficult. I'll use an example the location I lived if for 4 months while we were back in Canada during the pandemic... Christina Lake, BC. Had we owned a Tesla Y getting to the coast (Vancouver) or to a centre with anything more than rudimentary medical services (Kelowna, BC) would have been really challenging. A standard Tesla Y has a range of either 242 or 260 miles depending on how it was kitted out. The distance from where we lived to the first Tesla charging station along the route was 248 miles. That is too close for comfort in ideal conditions and having to pass through mountains and the winter simply make it impossible. I knew of one guy who did it and said he would turn off everything that consumed any electrical power, heat, stereo, etc and he just barely made. That was in early fall time. This is just one of a myriad of real world examples that I could give. Lastly, I'm opposed to government mandates at the best of times. Demanding people use a particular type of ever increasingly expensive ( see govt. imposed carbon tax) fuel/energy (electricity) when you won't even consider the most cost effective source for that energy (nuclear) is something that is going to face growing resistance from a populace growing weary with increasing government interference in their day to day life.
  6. Yeah that should be no problem. I'd be concerned if you were heavy packers but with just carry-ons I'd expect that to be no problem.
  7. Just tried opening the app and it had logged me out. I logged back in with my new password and all is well.
  8. Discovered this about an hour ago or so. I reset the password on the website and everything was fine. I haven't tried getting back into the app yet.
  9. You do remember correctly but after looking at different areas we have changed our mind. Those areas still hold great appeal but we'll probably wait until retirement and then look to purchase a second home in one of those area we liked so much. Along with some other reasons, both DW and I just couldn't move away from our daughter and the kids so we scrapped that plan. The area we are in now was chosen partly for work reasons. Also, as I slide towards retirement some of my work will continue but it'll be volunteer work, of which there is a lot of demand for around here. There are a couple of other reasons I won't go into here on CC. We're four hours away from family now but close enough that we can see them whenever we feel like it. We have easy access to airports with direct flights all over the country as well which is a bonus.
  10. Show up anytime and head to area designated for suites. (there's lots of signage.). You'll be on ship in less than 15 minutes.
  11. The reason I don't just suggest Uber for the entire trip is we tend to be a little luggage heavy and I don't want to get caught with Toyota Corolla and have to carry bags on my lap to or from the airport. If you are light packers I'd just use uber.
  12. I used a private car service last time and regretted it. I should have stuck with what I know works best.
  13. Use Galveston Express from the airport to Galveston the night before. The morning of... Uber is your best bet. https://galvestonexpress.com/galveston-taxi-rates-schedule/
  14. For 6 people that is about as cheap as you are going to find. If you used uber you'd need two if you had even a normal amount of luggage.
  15. Could this one possibly meet the criteria. https://www.secretisland.shannonscorner.com I'd love to meet there if the schedule could cooperate. 🤪
  16. If you do this I'd also recommend shutting down and restarting your phone. I've had better success solving app issues with this rather than just deleting the app and reinstalling it again. Some explained it had to do with memory cache or some such thing.
  17. LA traffic is the worst! It's gridlock most of the day but later in the evening I'll be doing 75 mph on the 10 and I'll regularly be passed like I'm standing still. There is no speed enforcement at all on any major highway that I have ever seen. That being said I'm loving living here... There is so much to do all the time. You'll have to explain to me what a tiki bar is vs. a regular bar.
  18. Thank for not forgetting about me. I have posted the odd time lately but I have only glanced at CC in the last couple of weeks a few times. I have been unusually busy with a new project. I hope everyone is doing well. On a cruising note, for those who might be cruising out of LA, I have discovered an amazing restaurant in Ensenada. People often say Ensenada is a port to just stay on the ship and indeed that is what I did the last time in Ensenada. However, I have driven down to Ensenada a few times in the last month because of an opportunity to set up a new program and stumbled into one of the best steak houses I have ever eaten at in my life. It is truly amazing. The first thing you notice when you get there is every vehicle in the parking lot is a local vehicle. You can tell by the MX license plates. The next thing you notice is every vehicle is either a Mercedes or BMW or some such thing. It is only patronized by the wealthy. Ensenada, as is true of most of Mexico, has no middle class. There is just the extremely rich top few percent and then there is everyone else. That being said, by US standards the prices are quite reasonable for a first class steak house. So, instead of staying on the ship in Ensenada I highly recommend taking a ten minute cab ride and give Sano's Steak House a try. I have been a regular for the last few weeks and absolutely love it.
  19. Ah I forgot about that... Thanks for the reminder. 😉
  20. Just to update this slightly... My Canadian passport worked fine with facial recognition on my last few cruises.
  21. I consider everything published by the Atlantic to be satire at best. Most of it is just fiction or liberal fever dreams. It hasn't been a serious publication in years.
