  1. We went once, I’m pretty sure on Nieuw Statendam, and I was excited to be going. We too are one and done. Our waiter was terrible, we are obviously too boring for his taste, so the service was poor. Other tables were more to his liking, livelier chatter and plenty of extras. Oh well!

  2. Our mousers are 19, and find mice less than interesting unfortunately. We had a mousy struggle during the winter, but we’re working on it. One good thing about summer - no house mice!  One cat that we had who has gone over the Rainbow Bridge, spent his formative years in the cold cruel world, and he knew exactly what to do.

    @kazu, you are a wonder of grit and determination. Hoping when we are enjoying the October cruise, you and Ivan are comfortably settled in your new home. This means that all the other boxes have been successfully checked!

    @marshhawk

    You redefine strength, love, and commitment. But you’re in the middle of a box of Morton’s salt!  At any given time, at least one of us is sending you a hug, and holding the umbrella as best we can.

  3. @0106Thanks for Pony Penning Day!  I devoured every Marguerite Henry book I could get my hands on, so probably most of them.

    I have a friend whose elementary school age daughter could not be bothered with reading. She just had no interest. I suggested Misty of Chincoteague since they live not far away in Maryland,  and it was a hit!  Her daughter is 16 now, and a voracious reader. I am very proud to take credit for that.

  4. We know the fixed tips are distributed, but we often have a favorite drink waiter who knows us and our preferences, and is always a delight. The last occasion, I asked to ensure that the “extra” tips added to a receipt go straight to the waiter’s pocket. They do, and he was grateful.

  5. On our last cruise, our originally assigned fixed dining table was not to our liking. Tables for 2 were too close together, and the “neighbors” wouldn’t stop talking to us. I spoke with the Neptune concierge, and we were assigned a table for 6 as a two-top, and had a spectacular waiter and assistant. The Neptune concierges are magicians and miracle workers.

  6. Independent me has always had great luck with the 800 #. Fast, friendly, dependable - until late last year when they offshored. The 800 # is just awful now; the people I’ve dealt with are ignorant of cruising, and I have been flat out lied to.

    I have a friend who has always used a live TA and loves her, so that’s where my next 3 bookings lie.

  7. @StLouisCruisers, I hope you have a good day in Kirkwall and some touring suggestions. It’s a port on a planned cruise in 2025; it also featured prominently in a book I recently read, so I’m very much looking forward to it.

    We had a noisy thunderstorm and downpour this morning - very happy to have the rain. Unfortunately, it was not a heatwave breaker, and we expect 99 today. Sauna, anyone?

    @Vict0riann, I think your surgery is tomorrow. You’re on my mind.

    As are all the rest of you. Stay safe and plan cruises!
