  1. That is a shame. Just like my deposit Hall love to take money but not refund. sorry you had a medical emergency as one would think they would refund you. just not good business practice
  2. yes and that is why I canceled my cruise for next year as I think a lot of devastation will occur.
  3. apparently the agent tells me insurance would not get my $300 back. All cruise lines are into the nickel and diming business these days but some more than others. My core issue is I did not ask for a refund but to transfer deposit to another sailing on the same damn ship. Other cruise lines will do this thus keeping same reservation number. HAL decides by cancelling a reservation and starting all over again it becomes a semantics game. In the end non refundable deposits should come with a warning "kiss the money goodbye if you want to change or cancel". I guess enough rich older folks on longer cruises is what they want not us under 14 day solo interior folks. And most definitely not kids or party people. HAL is very clearly sending a subtle message for the clientele they want. but those clientele have burned bridges with deposits on large suites and on longer cruises so a newer policy has come out. I got caught up in that web. It is bad business practice and some if just recently changed. HALs promos and policies is like an obstacle course and very cloudy. Sister companies do a better job. I guess most of you do not mind the fact that a solo person just wanted to make a change and lost $300 dollars. How unkind all of you are and you all deserve HAL who in my opinion need to be more diverse and have better management. Back to lovely Carnival I go - a cruiseline most of you would never consider.
  4. and do not forget if you can't get ahead of time, go onto the app once on ship and more will be available. And standby lines also work too. Comedy club fills up but then again, they also do shows in the big theatre too.
  5. most folks who like MSC do so by going yacht club. Now I wonder what it would be like if I did not go yacht club.
  6. Sorry you had bad experience on NCL. might have been a one off thing as usually they are good. Disney is a fair comparison if talking about money issues and customer experience as they are better than HAL.
  7. Careful with deposits and ask lots of questions up front
  8. Yea my experience with Royal goes downhill when I am in an Oceanview room in front of ship. on Allure, Anthem, and recently on Oasis I could hear loud thumping bass from bow of ship where steps go down to crew bar. Was a nightmare dealing with guest services. One of these days I might get brave and try MSC
  9. Never heard of this but hoping someone does reply to you good luck
  10. Nice and I am glad they are well. I enjoyed his threads but he did tangle with a couple of folks. So whatever it was must have been serious.
  11. And Disney as well. Both NCL and DCL will reply to any requests for changes by saying “no problem I will be happy to help” I DO NOT hear those words from HAL any more and that is why I started this thread. If I have helped anyone then you are welcome. The rest of you, well keep your faith in a company who won’t use the above words that NCL and DCL does.
  12. How rude to assume perks. I do not drink or gamble or use internet on ships so do not make unkind comment. I wanted to change my Iceland cruise to a Norwegian only cruise due to what is happening in Iceland with earthquakes and volcanic activity. And I was in an interior room. HAL just doesn’t want make changes only new booking or cancellations.
  13. Called competition and who plays nice with customers
  14. I would not even take a free cruise from HAL at this point
  15. one more time folks. I was told early in the year if I purchased the Protection plan with a NRD, I could make changes. And the agent did admit that it has now changed. Where is that fair that a new policy effect things already booked. I hope all of you have your drinks, taxes, shore excursions all increase because of a recent policy change. HAL just seems to do whatever crap they want to. I have lost respect. I was hoping to share information to help others and instead ya all just flame me. I hope HAL makes more changes and some of you then change your mind.
  16. Royal won't keep your deposit, they will yes charge you a fee but they will accommodate you. Just so you know, when a reservation number is cancelled, then a new one brings into play new promos and lots of neat little things they can use to argue with you and charge or deny. Why does it even have to change. It is their way of overcontrolling and keeping deposits of a person who just wants to move to another itinerary on the same ship. I have met TA while travelling on other ships and they do NOT like HALs way of doing things. It loses the trail and is not what competition does. In the past I have never lost money with NCL for any changes or cancel. Even one time when I actually had an NRD. Usually, they have Ref deposits. I guess HAL has to be a bit mean because of all the longer cruises with the expensive rooms and folks making changes. I do criticize them for their pricing, promos, and practices. I hope all the other lines do better over the next several years and that HAL goes in the tank.
  17. I was not asking for a refund I just wanted to move the money to a more expensive sailing. HAL really wants to satisfy the folks on 14 days cruises or longer and they want to satisfy those in expense suites. a solo person in an interior room just does not deserve a break. But hey you keep on loving HAL and thinking their business is wonderful. Me nope. Heck HAL doesnt really even want families or kids on their ships much either. says a lot.
