  1. Corrections to dreamercruise’s post: If you want to take a train to EWR, you need NJ Transit which you get at Penn Station - not Grand Central Station. Both Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast trains stop at EWR. You can get the schedule at https://www.njtransit.com/schedules/printable
  2. I’m not a player, but I have seen mahjong sets and players on the second deck atrium.
  3. Our last 2 river cruises had group “G” for gentle.
  4. We did the Viking Beatles tour and while similar to your tour, we fared much better. We had a great guide and did the museum first - almost had the place to ourselves. Had several photo opportunities. The guide lectured in depth about the Merseybeat groups of the 60’s, etc. As often the case with tours, YMMV.
  5. Most of us “regulars” on this board have cruised on other lines - which is why we now cruise Viking. I never spent near $700 (all costs) per person per day and never was bored on sea days. Didn’t you read the activities in the Viking Daily? I guess we have different tastes and prefer the mature crowd to little kids splashing us in the pool (not to mention peeing in it).
  6. We experienced the same on our Viking tulips cruise this past year.
  7. I wasn’t aware the Neptune was going to be anchored in Cabo the same time as us on the Mars. Thought I was seeing double (and I don’t drink).
  8. It actually saved us time when we embarked in LA Wednesday. There was a special line for Comfort Check In and it did move quickly.
  9. Unfortunately our last 2 Viking cruises didn’t have Sprite Zero - only Coke Zero which has caffeine.
  10. I’m an insulin dependent diabetic and have been using an insulin pump for longer than I have been cruising. As CDN states, different medications have different storage and temperature requirements. I personally have never had a problem using the cabin refrigerator. Detailed info is available on several websites.
  11. Any cruise booked within 2 weeks of disembarkation of any cruise is eligible for a “welcome back” shipboard credit of $200 per person. The type and length of cruise - as well as other discounts and promo codes do not affect this amount. I believe only Viking agents can apply this credit, as we only use the same Viking agent for our bookings. We have continually taken advantage of this credit for several years.
  12. Do any of the September/October sailings have a port stop scheduled in Prince Edward Island?
  13. Ural guy - guess I missed that one. Regardless, there are other Viking ocean itineraries which do include excursions on Rome and Athens - plus many folks prefer to do their own pre and post excursions especially in Rome (per our host). A lot of planning goes into developing itineraries, but I still must disagree that pushing people to take their pre and post excursions is a major reason.
  14. Unless I’m missing something, the only 14 night Viking Ocean cruise from Rome to Athens is Cities of Antiquities which includes overnights in both Rome and Athens as well as an included excursion in each city. Totally disagree with your assessment that selling extensions is why this itinerary exists.
  15. Have a great trip. We’ll be in a suite for the first time next November on the Douro.
  16. That’s what you get with a Veranda Suite - not a Veranda A.
  17. No liquor or soda - only water. And you can find this info on Viking’s website. Go to the cruise you’re interested in, select dates and pricing, then any date. Look at Veranda A (same as B) and click on the magnifying glass. It will give the particulars for that class of cabin.

  19. I thought this might be a good place to share this info as Nile cruises are alive and well. Viking is running promo - see the details and promo code at
  20. May I ask exactly what is a “served buffet”? Never heard that term before. TIA
  21. Hate to be the one to tell you this, but Egypt cruises are going on as usual (at least on Viking) as there is an active roll call here on CC where folks are anticipating their Egypt cruises for this winter. Other than canceling pre or post extensions to Jerusalem, cruises are going on. Unless you had CFAR insurance, I don’t think any other cruise line would treat you differently.
