Princess Vacation Protection not available in BC
redtop101 replied to whee-sailing's topic in Canadian Cruisers
The original TA who added it on after October 16 is no longer with the company ??? The TA who took over my booking called Princess who told her it was still good, as I had made final payment. Then I was told again that it was not valid, and my premium was reimbursed. Hence my post that there is terrible communication between Princess and their independent agents. -
Princess Vacation Protection not available in BC
redtop101 replied to whee-sailing's topic in Canadian Cruisers
I made a deposit on a Princess cruise on Oct 23 and final payment on November 1st and paid for Platinum Protection. I live in BC, then found out on CC that it was no longer offered for BC residents effective October 16th. I called my TA to question the status of my insurance. She said she would call Princess and enquire about this. I was told that it was still valid as I had made final payment. 3 days later my TA called me back to say that her manager had asked her to call me to say that it was no longer valid and they would refund my insurance premium. Needless to say I was not impressed by the false and misleading information given by Princess and that my original TA had added it past the October 16 cut off for BC residents. I guess just another example of poor communication by Princess to their independent agents. -
This is now a change made by Princess, without explanation I might add. On previous medallion cruises out of US ports I have always been in the Green Lane even when picking up the medallions at the port. As far as I remember Princess didn’t give you the choice to have the medallions shipped to Canada for a shipping charge, of $15 US in my case. Now they do, and by choosing that option you immediately get switched from the Blue Lane to the Green Lane, as long as all your other required information is filled out. This is also true if you pre-pay for Princess Plus/Premier which now includes free shipping of the medallions to Canada.

Thank you so much for that information. I went back into the app, cancelled the order for the medallion that I had planned to pick up at the port. I then re-entered the same medallions for my wife and I, but then I now had the choice of having it shipped to my home in Canada. The charge was actually $15 US for my wife and I. Hey Presto, our Blue Lane status then changed to Green Lane. I will now buy the Princess Plus package on board Day 1 and hopefully save the $105.60 surcharge for the insurance premium.

I’m not trying to dodge the insurance. I pre-purchased Princess Platinum insurance before final payment, but not Princess Plus. I’m just getting mixed messages between my TA and Princess when I try to add on Princess Plus now. Princess has told me TA that my cost will be $1320 with no apparent extra add on for insurance. I just don’t know what to believe.

No discount from TA. I’m on an 11 night cruise with my wife. If I order Princess Plus from website the cost should be $60 x 11 x 2 = $1320. When I try to purchase on website the final cost says $1425.60. This additional surcharge might have something to do with additional premium for Princess Platinum Protection, already purchased. I’m past final payment date. But if go through my TA I’m told I can purchase it for the $1320, which Princess has confirmed with TA.

Thank you for the advice. I’m in the process of trying to purchase Princess Plus and have the medallion shipped to my home included, which should put me in the Green Lane. My TA is trying to sort out the fine print details and additional charges.

I live in Canada and have sailed several times with Princess using the Medallion app, and familiar with filling out all the information that then puts you in the Green Lane, including picking up the medallion at the port, because they did not ship it to Canada. I have booked a cruise out of Galveston with Standard fare, completing all the information, but this has only put me in the Blue Lane Since then, I booked another cruise out of LA, and purchased Princess Plus. They will now ship the medallion to my home and I am in the Green Lane.

Just loving your reviews, Radio, with so much information, photos, patters. It’s very helpful for our New Year’s cruise out of Galveston on Dec 27th. Thank you. -
Los Angeles embarkation: does green or blue lane really matter?
redtop101 replied to donswife's topic in Princess Cruises
Yes, I agree. Vancouver can be a zoo. Depends on the number of ships in port also. We were green lane for a cruise about 18 months ago and I think everyone was just stuffed into one general line. It was chaos and no staff or volunteers seemed to have a clue as to where passengers should go. -

I see there is a QR code for duty on any liquor bought, either off shore or on board. Any idea what the duty is, and what ever happened to duty free? 🤷♂️ -
Why the extra charge to upgrade booked cruise to Plus?
redtop101 replied to cruiseidaho's topic in Princess Cruises
This must be something new. My wife and I are on an 11 night cruise so the Princess Plus should be 60 x 11 x 2 = $1320. When I click on upgrade it comes to $1425.60, a difference of $125.60 on $1320. Our cruise fare is $2894 and Princess EZ Air is $1379.16 for a total of $4273.16. My Princess Platinum Protection premium is $200.32 on $4273.16 yet the extra charge for Princess Plus is $125.60 on $1320 which is quite disproportionately much higher. I have been questioning this with my travel agent, who didn’t have an answer. I have been on a previous cruise where I have purchased Princess Platinum Protection BEFORE final payment, THEN bought Princess Plus after final payment for a straight $60 pp per day, without any additional surcharge, so this must be something new. I think I will also wait until embarkation day before purchasing the Plus package. -
OK, I'll bite (pun intended): what's a premium dessert?
redtop101 replied to pcur's topic in Princess Cruises
Yes, regular ice cream cones are available free on the Lido Deck, and included on the dessert menu in the dining room. There is usually a charge for Gelato. I have read on CC that it is free if you have the Princess Plus or Premium package. -

I believe that on some ships with a Gelato bar that you can indulge in a more modest gelato of your choice in lieu of these calorific explosions. -
Regal Princess has Alfredo’s Pizzeria which is a sit down, waiter based service. On some ships the main dining room has not always been open on embarkation day. Not sure what the current situation is on Regal.

I’ve just booked a flight on EZAir for Boxing Day, 2023 thinking that air travel will be very busy that day. The fare is currently quite high. How and where do I check EZAir on the Princess web site to check if prices actually drop to keep my booked flight and rebook the same flight if prices drop. Do I go to “Manage Flights”, then “Change Flights” or what? Or does it have to be a completely different flight to get a lower fare?

Mine expires June 2023 and my wife’s in August 2023. I waited for the 12 month prior to expiry for my wife’s before applying for renewal for both. We were notified at the end of Sept 2022 that our applications were both approved with no interview required. Just waiting for the cards to arrive in the mail before activating them.
