  1. But it’s preferable to some to have a hard but lucrative job than working for minimum wage as a cashier somewhere, especially if you are a full time student (her program is 5 days a week, she’s at BU all day). My daughters (who’ve been employed since 14) got entry restaurant jobs (cashier, hostess) to get their foot in the door, moving up to server, this is my daughters second bartending job which she moved up to after being a server for a couple of years. Bartenders are not well paid and rely on tips just like servers. Who the heck would work their tail off until 3 am for minimum wage?
  2. My daughter is a bartender in Boston, she bartends to pay rent while she’s in grad school (and tuition alone is $60,000 a year). She works brutal shifts because of the tips, her salary is very small, walks home alone at 3 am. No one would do this work without tips.
  3. Let them know ahead of time, it will be noted on your reservation and the dietary manager will find you in the MDR after you board to go over details. My daughter ordered breakfast and dinner the night before. Even if you choose to dine in the buffet your food will arrive at your table. They have a lot of gluten free options. My daughter just winged it in the buffet for lunch because she ate with her new friends, and being a teen on our last cruise didn’t want a tray deliver in the buffet.
  4. I don’t think that’s true, I don’t remember getting charged at port Canaveral.
  5. If you don’t want them to have wifi access, just pay for the app for messaging. Have them go to entourage the first night to meet others, I’ve had a lot of teens on NCL and the teen club (for meeting others) was a highlight.
  6. I’d definitely not go with an excursion, even a taxi would only cost about $5 pp. I don’t know the beach situation there.
  7. The kids clubs start at 3, but I do believe they have parent/child playtimes for under 3’s.
  8. Check the attractions and height minimums, I believe it’s now up to $200 pp. My favorite was the not lazy River (forgot the name), it takes you to many slides while you stay in the tube, and goes over rapids. I’m sure there are youtube videos. There are pools, beach, aquarium, plenty to do.
  9. NJ transit, Newark airport, I believe it then goes to nj Penn, to ny Penn.
  10. If it snows the train is a good idea, it’s a very short 2 stops I believe.
  11. When you are a family of 7, it’s $35 for the ride, if it were 2 of us, it would be $35 fir the ride. It’s obviously cheaper pp when you have more people.
  12. Servers at more expensive/upscale restaurants tend to have more experience, so the higher tip is better compensation. They will also be expected to be more attentive and have fewer tables. It’s the level of service.
  13. We’ve been charged $5 pp for our family of 7. ETA it’s faster because you don’t need to wait for it to fill up. The taxis don’t bother me much, we have worse here in NJ.
  14. It’s easier to take a taxi, dropped off right in front. Crowds depend on when you are there, we’ve been at busier times so we save the aquarium for the end, after the beach, which we do after the slides.
  15. I think you need to call back, if you book moderno and teppanyaki it should not incur a cost, the a la cart restaurants won’t be a charge. This seems to be a unique to you problem. I’m still wondering how you received so many freebies. I do think I had to pay for 8 for our family of 7 booking moderno without a promo since I had to book 8, but it was refunded of course.
  16. My daughter goes to grad school in Boston, we live in NJ, and if purchased in advance she can get a round trip for $60, plus the train is nicer than sitting in traffic. I’ve driven, flow, and taken the train, I prefer the train.
  17. True story, my mom would always get off the parkway on route 3 and pay a dime vs. a quarter if she went through the next toll and got off the next exit.
  18. Some NCL ships have spice H2O, a free adult only sun deck.
