  1. Agree in full. As mentioned by someone earlier, airlines and hotels followed this model for years. I imagine the cruise lines will not be able to morph into the airline model, (showing most of the available seats with weekly price adjustments) because people can book cruises further out than flights. Plus us not sure if they would want to burden The IT department with posting weekly regular changes as airlines do.
  2. Just flew home from Anchorage, departure was 6:00 AM. Had to place luggage out by 3:00 AM and shuttle picked us up at 4:00 AM. Others in our group had earlier flights, by about an hour.
  3. Isn’t holding back some inventory, then releasing them.with higher prices closer to the sail date theoretically accomplishing the same thing as the “Royal Up” bidding game as the sail date gets close? Better forRCL as they collect all the added revenue, not a split fee with the Royal Up vendor. I think knowing the the hold back happens encourages one to plan/book even earlier than they have in the past. Alternatively, I believe it also encourages some folks to utilize a TA, if they have blocks of rooms, which incurs a commission. Eddie
  4. Well shoot, I was afraid of that. I want the TA to have their heart into it.
  5. Question for the Travel Agents. If I am going to use an RCL credit card reward free cruise, does the agent still get their commission? Dont want them working for free. Eddie
  6. DW and I sailed twice this summer, middle of June and middle of July. DW liked the July weather better, as she did not require room to pack her winter coat. I found the weather on board while sailing in June to be too cold, but July was very tolerable. Eddie
  7. Thanks to the help of one Air2Sea agent, who first corrected the name on the air portion, and another RCL phone agent who could then correct the cruise portion, ........my idiocracy has been overcome. The 2 agents did wonderful jobs, thank you. Eddie
  8. It’s a two - sided sword, as the bigger the ship the bigger the financial boost for the local economy.
  9. Oh, i did not know we didn’t need ID for air portion. RCL says they can’t change name until AFTER airline does
  10. 18 months ago at Next Cruise desk booked a family cruise. Used the everyday name for a grand baby, let’s say.....Kathy. Birth certificate is Katherine, and now trying to update the name is making us jump hoops, but with the help of a super RCL phone agent, I think it is being corrected. Air2Sea needs corrected first, so we need the airline to approve. I’m an idiot. Eddie
  11. Thanks so much Bella, that’s what I needed. They aren’t my children, so I can’t get a passport for them and since they didn’t have them I specifically chose the round trip via Seattle. I think we pull up to the docks in Vancouver for a cup of coffee then leave. Also chose Seattle to avoid LONG flights from Anchorage with toddlers, for their benefit and that of the other airline patrons. Just have not travelled with Birth Certs before, which ginned up some anxt.
  12. Having never cruised with toddlers, please help relieve my anxiety of documents required to embark. Leaving and returning to Seattle. We went to county records department and have in hand official birth records. Thats it? Just show them at pier? Eddie
  13. DW and my second cruise was Sept 1992 on Soverign of the Seas. Mid week we were docked in San Juan, came back from and excursion to find an envelope inside our cabin Opened up it was an invitation to have dinner with the Captain that evening. Captain was Thor Stageland, it was quite an evening. We were early 30’s, and figured EVERYONE must be invited to dine with the Captain every couple of cruises. How wrong we were, as I can’t say I have seen the Captain in the dinning room on most cruises. Plus the odds today of being chosen and much more slight. Eddie
  14. Sounds like it could be a reduced deposit requirement
  15. We purchased 2 bottles on one of the islands from a distillery we toured. The ship held it until the night before Debarkation, as we needed to pack it in our checked luggage. In times past, one could carry bottles onto a flight home, Bacardi even had these nice boxes for precisely that. Like many things of times past, for better or worse, no longer an option. Eddie
  16. Sorry for what I know must be a repetitive question, but if an adult is in a room with minor children, the adult wants the DBP, what package are the kids required to have, if any? Thanks in advance. Eddie
  17. I almost always book air on my own, Except.....I have 2 Alaska cruises this year and booked both respective air through the cruise line. RCL had lower prices by about 25% than I could personally book, and then in the middle of the winter they had an Alaska Air2Sea sale that I rebooked under, saving another $100 to $150 per person. When the airlines were in hyper cancelling mode in late 2021 and early 2022, I had booked flights on my own and wish I had booked via the cruise line. Glad those times are over. Eddie
  18. RCL will have to announce soon, as Quantum is scheduled for Alaska runs outs of Seattle in a week or two. Think here will be a replacement port? I hope so, as I consider Alaska a port stop cruise, not interested in pure sea days. Maybe Icy straight point or Ketchikan. Been to both but Icy straight is not much at all. Eddie
  19. I just went through the EXACT SAME situation three weeks ago. I redeemed points in March and they just would not show up against my RCL invoice. In the BOA paperwork, look for “Redemption and Transfer of MyCruise Points.” They list a separate phone number. I called that number and they asked for my Transaction ID number, which is on the “Order Detail” page in the MyCruise Rewards section. They confirmed the cruise discount was successfully applied, and I received an updated invoice from RCL the next day. Hope this helps Eddie
  20. Can we expect West Bound trans Atlantic from Northern Europe in second half of 2024 to open for booking soon? This year Anthem and Jewel are making such a trip, looking for 2024. Thanks in advance Eddie
  21. Sounds like you didn’t pre-pay the gratuity. Give the barista, bartender and wait staff $20 to $50 with the order, and the card will work just fine. I think more than $50 gratuity up front will qualify you for Diamond Plus status immediately. Eddie
  22. I would say they are not as alarmist as some may think. Just my opinion, and I think we are all allowed one. Out of Seward we did a daylong Fiord excursion, they blamed everything on global warming, It got a little rattle from the crowd, then they finished their sentence by saying the global warming started 10,000 years ago. Did the 26 glacier excursion out of Whittier in 2021 and they pointed out both expanding and reducing glaciers and also referenced the end of the ice age as a global warming period. Eddie
  23. If you do please provide a follow-up. I just received email notifications of balance due and am sort or reluctant.
