Fair point WonderMan3. I'm just interested in the new ship.

@Ken the cruiser always does amazing live threads and never includes pic's of food.

Well many are interested in food pictures as that is part of the cruise experience.  Perhaps there will be new dishes that we haven't seen before, especially with the addition of a signature restaurant.

@CanadianBurger please do your live from however you wish to do it as we will all be happy to read it.  Bon Voyage!

  2. On our last sailing, one person had decorated their entire door as well as the walls on the side of the door.  It was way over the top and tacky.

I'm also in the minority as I like the policy change.

And as for the Princess door decoration, perhaps they are no longer including them and just haven't updated their website.  We all know that they are not the best at updating anything but pricing.

Can everybody just take a breath?

Y'all are fighting and snarling at each other like little wolves, and it's becoming increasingly harsh! Ask @c-boy, there have literally been days where I've had to stop reading due to anxiety from members having a go at each other. Let's remember that we all (I think) share a common love of cruising, that should bind us, rather than trying to tear each other down, or get the best insults. Peace , love and brussels sprouts my friends!

I'll take a deep breath along with a side order of Brussel sprouts and a martini or glass of red wine! @jwattle LOL

And perhaps we can all get back to talking about the love of cruising and the good and bad of Princess.  Certainly the roll out of the Sun has not been their finest moment that's for sure.

At the same time you've got to remember that some of those flaunted things that are included in their packages were once included for their elite passengers. It's a slap in the face for many of their dedicated customers.

Not too sure what was flaunted for the Sun Princess or even in the packages  that were given to elite passengers and taken away but wifi minutes.  And unlimited/free dining at a place like Alfredos has been a charge venue for everyone but did they promise extras for the Sun?

On the Enchanted the hours are:

    11:00am-Late

    (Food)11:30am-2:30pm &

    5:30pm-9:00pm

Right from todays edition of the official Princess event listings to answer OP's question.

Is that the hours for both sea and port days?

  6. As the Sun Princess is the first of the Sphere class ships for Princess, here is a thread for everyone to discuss cabins/staterooms and categories as there are new ones we have not seen before.

I'm sure everyone would love to hear feedback  and advice from those who have sailed on her as well as videos or pictures of the various staterooms that you have sailed in.

Please, NO links or videos from Travel Agents from their sites, their you tube channels or their Facebook pages.

  7. @cruisedoctor thank you for all the pictures.

I will say that I'm so VERY disappointed in the Sanctuary as it's my favorite place on the ship, always.  While I want sun and not shade, the chairs are just way to close together for me and it no longer looks inviting.  They have as others have quite perfectly said, taken the Sanctuary out of the Sanctuary.  Upsetting....

(I know, first world problems. LOL)

On our recent Med/TA, 26-day cruise on the Enchanted we dined at "The Catch" five times.  It was by far the best meals we have had on a ship in a VERY long time!

While you are enjoying "The Catch" on the Discovery, we will be doing the same on the Majestic!  Have a great cruise!  🙂

We ate there twice and have it reserved twice for our April Enchanted sailing.  Actually contemplating a 3rd time there.  It was just amazing.  Couldn't agree with you more @LACruiser88

@Astro Flyer you will certainly love your meal there.

Carpaccio can be either completely raw, or quick seared on the outside, but still very close to raw throughout.

I have had it like this, and this looks delicious.  The picture on Princess just looked like it was more than seared. Probably growing pains.

Up until this 1st sailing there has been nothing available on the Princess Answers (the place where Princess representatives and travel agents go to find answers to your questions) about The Butcher’s Block Restaurant, other than family style and high end meat being served.  I’m sure that I wasn’t the only one who was leery to make a reservation without knowing all the specifics.  Here is the scoop:

The far aft end of The Eatery is transformed into two of the specialty dining venues each evening.  The Butcher’s Block on the port side, and The Catch on the starboard side.  Here is what the Butcher’s Block area looks like:

    FullSizeRender.thumb.jpeg.2ad322e0761b92196ac227a526c198fe.jpeg

The original description said the experience was going to be one long communal table being served family style.  That has changed to a multitude of tables, where passengers will be “sharing” tables, in order to maximize the space available.  Waiters and a butcher will then come around, presenting the various courses of platters of food, from which you would select your choices.  Here is the menu:

    IMG_0833.thumb.jpeg.a92ec86d3df671999dc0af8f1fd2f066.jpeg

In the picture below, the platters on the right are the beef tartare, the platters on the left are the rump roast carpaccio.

    FullSizeRender.thumb.jpeg.3f42b96f0d2bae7f2fb667b70795ae0f.jpeg

The main course consists of 3 types of steak, which the butcher will explain and carve based on your choice(s).  They can be see in the photo below in the “raw state”.

You can see on the menu, there are also sides to choose from, other items like bread, a salad, etc.  You also get a desert and complimentary red wine.

This looks like a unique and good deal for carnivore passengers.  The manager said it is being very well received so far, and everyone has been leaving “fully” satisfied.  Sorry for the pun!

thank you for posting this.  Looks very interesting.  I will say that the rump roast carpaccio doesn't look like carpaccio, it looks like thinly sliced medium rare rump roast and it's not raw.

  11. Welcome to Cruise Critic.

It would be helpful to have your topic as the head of the thread rather than your CC name as you will get many more responses.  If you would like it changed, please let me know.

I'm sure others will chime in about your question and if you do a search, there are responses in regards to this topic.  Read the thread on the Sun and you can see a video on one of the later pages.

I had read the same you quoted, but of course PCL did not publish that they were ruining the rest of the Sanctuary for the steerage guests.

From the main video provided to date, it makes perfect sense that a Suite guest can come and go as the please and use the entire space.

What we do not know is if they show up expecting to use one of their padded loungers, and they are all full, will they be able to plunk down onto a sun bed lounger to wait for one to open up?

The Sun Sanctuary must have some capacity control, but that doesn't mean everyone gets a lounger.

IMO, we need a detailed report from a guest who interviews the Sanctuary manager and asks them a list of questions on the operation.  Until then, I think we have speculated the heck out of the place.  In fact, I have been thinking that the Sun Sanctuary needs its own thread topic and all posts in this thread on the subject should be moved to it.  ( @Host CJSKIDS, is that too much work now with maybe 100 posts on the Sun Sanctuary-  what do you think?)

    Can't be done, sorry.

There is already a thread on the Sanctuary on the Sun.
