  1. I actually have a small collection of Venetian masks which I frame. Each mask has a different meaning and history. Here is what I found about your mask. Probably aren't going to be a chick magnet DOTTORE PESTE OR PLAGUE DOCTOR A half-mask with a ghoulishly exaggerated nose, Dottore Peste differs from the Scaramouch in that its nose is conventionally not only wider but also curved downwards like beak, and whereas the latter mask covers the cheekbones, the Plague Doctor only covers the forehead. Its name and peculiar form originates from the 16th Century and the unusual practices of a French physician by the name of Charles de Lorme, who would wear a full face mask with a hollow beak while treating plague sufferers. The Doctor is the local aristocrat, and/or doctor of medicine or law or anything else he claims to know about, which is most things. Extremely rich, he adores food and good wines, thus he is a little round. He is typically depicted as an elderly man who only knows nonsense. He makes many cruel jokes about the opposite sex and believes that he knows everything about everything.

  5. Everybody and their dog seems to be heading for Barcelona-well maybe not the dog
  6. Since we got 4 reviewers taking us along on the Venezia cruise we should all get Carnival VIFP points
  7. I did the post cruise Miami/South Beach tour and enjoyed it.
  8. As Richard Pryor says: This thread has "Po-TEN-tial!" Outstanding so far ...and sadly I guess Dijon didn't cut the mustard
  9. After trying the Vista Havana Interior a year ago, I loved it. My biggest complaint about Carnival is the ridiculously over crowded pools in early afternoon. The Carnival Havana is like cruise on an entirely different class of cruise ship. I liked it so much I upgraded to the center aft balcony on Deck 7. Can't wait. I start out in the Havana area and then move to main pool in late afternoon. I still like the action at the main deck especially when it gets a little more mellow in the afternoon with a band playing. It doesn't look like Carnival will be building more ships with the premium Havana like on the Vista with a main pool and two large saunas. Since the Vista is moving out of Galveston I thought I'd better take advantage now;. I will say one concern I've heard is that the aft balconies don't get much shade-which might be tough on the dog, although an aft wrap might be different. Another thing to consider is that your 22 and 23 year old's won't be able to invite their friends they meet and join them in the Havana pool area but that age is a great age to cruise anyway.
  10. I've stayed in all the top hotels in Galveston (Tremont, Galvez, Harbor House, Hilton, San Luis, and another good option in Galveston is Moody Gardens which usually is much less expensive. Hotel-really good option for family with kids in warmer months because of the large heated pool and bar area which seems rare in Galveston.
