  1. I did double-check the flag at the bottom of the page and it was set to "other countries". So I changed it to the US flag and I was able to log in. I had no idea that the country option was there at the bottom or why it had me in "other countries". I was able to get to speak to someone at the travel agency after being on hold for over two hours - not really a hardship since I was working at my desk and just had the phone on speaker as background noise. They were able to cancel my cruise. Obviously a huge disappointment but we'll make it on Azamara some day! Thanks for the assistance.
  2. We have a cruise booked in August and today I tried logging into the Azamara website so I could review it. The login function is disabled on the website so I am unable to access my account. Can someone tell me if what's going on - I know everything is in chaos but why would I not be able to see my booked cruise? This is actually part of a bigger issue for me. I booked this cruise through a large online travel agent and my final payment is due this week - but we need to cancel the cruise (ironically not because of the virus or related to health in any way). My agent at the travel agency has apparently been laid off and is not responding to emails or phone calls. I have been trying to reach customer service there and did send an email but have been on hold for an hour at this point. My understanding is that Azamara can't cancel it for us if the travel agent made the reservation. I may be between a rock and a hard place here.
  3. We did a 2-night last year and are doing another one this year. There are no Captain's Club activities at all on the cruise. Because these are "fill-in" cruises between charters or between a charter and a sailing, there are fewer activities. Still a great cruise. Some people claim they are "party" cruises - we didn't experience that at all. The port day in Nassau leaves the ship pretty much empty.
  4. There's another thread talking asking about a sail away party for "regular people". I think there is a misconception that the helipad sail away is some kind of fancy party. We were concierge for our trip on Summit to Bermuda last summer and did get invited to the helipad when we left Bermuda. It was a great experience, but other than actually being on the helipad they only offered water bottles or champagne. There was no food or music. It was a fun experience but I wouldn't call it a "party". The scenery was great and we did talk to the same senior officers we had seen at all the other Captains Club events we had been to all week.
  5. We did an Royal 3-day last year also and it was MUCH more of a party atmosphere. We aren't drinkers so usually don't hang out in any of the bars, so I may have missed a huge party somewhere. But I can tell you the crowd was small at the full moon party and there didn't seem to be much going on around the ship the second night.
  6. I think one of the very few negatives of the Summit is the Tuscan Grille. The location is strange and it's not a very attractive room. Truly nothing special about the atmosphere.
  7. We were on a 2-night on Infinity last year and are doing another one in February. It's a weekend away for us - not a sub for a longer cruise. First, there are no Captain's Club activities during the cruise. We were in a concierge cabin last year and there was the embarkation lunch and we did get our "gifts". There was a much lighter schedule of daily activities - basically you only have one day and that is in port. I do know they had trivia at least twice, but not a lot else going on. If I remember correctly there was a sort of production show one night (I think it was just the cast singing) and maybe a comedian the other night. It was the normal schedule of two shows per night. There was a full moon party on deck the second night and a very small crowd. I do remember we were shocked at how quiet it was around the ship. There was a DJ in the foyer and music in the lounge. Dining was like a regular cruise but because your one day is a port day the dining room was closed for breakfast and lunch. We did not see the "party" atmosphere that some people talk about. If you get off in Nassau then you really spend almost no time on the ship. It's more like a floating hotel than a regular cruise - still plenty to do but definitely pared down from a regular cruise.
  8. On the Summit last summer, we were at a two-top in Select dining every night and there was a family group of six at the next table with two small kids. The kids were delightful and never an issue, but they do have larger tables mixed in with the two-tops. Not an issue to get moved, if you want to but never say never with kids next to you at dinner!
  9. The Bermuda cruises are full of families with lots of kids. It’s very popular for family vacations and large family groups. Not as many as on RCCL, but still more than you would expect. Not a problem for me at all but if you are expecting to have a child free cruise you will be disappointed.
  10. We were on the Summit last July and ate in Tuscan for our 30th anniversary. My husband's steak was so tough he had to send it back (and we never send back food). I was a little disappointed in the food altogether - ok but not fantastic, but they made the night very special. We were in select dining for that cruise. The two-tops are incredibly close together. I have posted before about the very uncomfortable exchange we had with the couple sitting inches away from us. Anyway, there are two-tops by the windows with those tall-back chairs which are more private and there are a few larger 6-8 seat tables back there too. I would say the tables away from the back windows on the sides might be better. For the larger tables you are focused on each other around the table so you won't feel like you are on display like you do at the tables for two.
  11. We were in Select dining on the Summit last summer and had the best waiter we have ever had on any of our cruises, Cedric. At the time his assistant waiter was Santosh. Cedric was not only extremely friendly but respectful, he was everything you want in a dining room waiter - remembered our preferences, his recommendations were excellent, and he really watched out for us. We never had an issue asking to be placed in his section even though it was crowded. They put you near "your" waiter's section and he just adds you to his rotation. The head waiter told us that the best waiters go to Select dining because dealing with the timing of passengers all coming at different times is much more difficult than working set dining times. Also, he worked the section near the two-story back windows so his location was fantastic. I hope he's there when you are on the ship!
  12. As I posted previously, I went on a two-day cruise on the same ship, Infinity, last year so I have direct, recent experience with a two-day cruise on Celebrity out of Miami. Of course we all would prefer to go on longer cruises, but for us "locals" a two-day is a relatively inexpensive weekend getaway. We do not drink alcohol so I am very aware of the number of people who over-indulge on the cruises I'm on. We did not find any issue at all with this on the two-day last year. Yes, there were more families (but not an unusual number of kids). In fact, because most people are eager to get as much time in Nassau as possible, the ship was actually quite empty and pleasant on port day. Honestly, there were many more drunk people on our 7-day Celebrity cruise last summer (all those people having to drink the seven drinks or more a day to justify their drink package so they walked around with alcohol starting first thing in the morning) than we saw on the little short cruise. And many more kids. By comparison, we also did a three-day weekend cruise last year on Royal Caribbean. Now that was a booze fest with tons of kids. But the bachelor/bachelorette parties were the worst. The difference between the Celebrity and RCCL short cruises was night and day.
  13. Last year on our Summit cruise Select Dining was on deck 4. Can't guarantee it will be the same for your cruise. We made reservations in advance using the cruise planner and never had to wait. We were also able to be in the same area and get our fantastic server every night.
  14. We did a two-night on Infinity last year and really enjoyed it. To us it was the same level of service as a longer cruise, food was the same. The crowd skews a little younger, seemed to be more locals, and there were more family groups. I would NOT describe it as a "party cruise". However, there were no Captain's Club events at all on the cruise - we received a notice when we checked in. If I remember correctly there was a show each night but I don't think they had the big production shows. We are only Select level so I can't tell you if you get your Elite perks. Our only disappointment was the condition of the ship. In some areas the wear and tear was really bad (like the seating in the Constellation lounge). And the decor of the staterooms was very dated. But that doesn't ruin a short cruise.
  15. I just received this in my email. We have a cruise booked for February with no perks, but I guess I will be prepaying the gratuities now. Not a huge difference in price, but interesting that they are giving you an option to pay at the lower rate.
  16. I'm also a serious iced tea (unsweetened) drinker and really don't like the iced tea in the Oceanview, although I agree that sometimes you do get brewed tea in the MDR or specialty restaurants. My last cruise I brought my stainless steel thermal drink tumbler and filled it with ice, then added my double strength hot tea I brewed myself. Worked great. I have also brought a small plastic pitcher and the cold brew teabags along to keep a pitcher of tea in the refrigerator in the cabin. My only iced tea complaint from my last couple of cruises is that they must have to walk a long way to get it from the MDR because 1) it takes forever for them to bring it after you order and 2) they don't always offer refills. My standard for good service is to keep my iced tea glass full throughout the meal.
  17. We were on the Summit this summer and our travel agent had noted in our file that we were celebrating our anniversary. We had reservations at Tuscan that night and they made it very special for us with not only the cake, but a nice card and the waiter and maitre' d fussed over us. I think it's always worth letting them know! No, it's not a huge party, but considering how many people they have on board celebrating birthdays and anniversaries they did a very nice job of making it special.
  18. We were on the Infinity for one of their very short cruises (filler before a charter) last spring. It was a port day and since we weren't getting off the ship I decided to get a facial. They must have not been very busy because the attendant practically jumped on me when I walked up there to make the appointment and then offered me a 90 minute facial for the 60 minute special port pricing. Overall it was a very good facial and the upsell wasn't too bad (recommended products and then had them waiting for me at the front desk, all bagged up like I was going to take them - which I didn't) but it was not a true spa experience. I understand the Persian Garden was not included, but she made me change my clothes in the actual tiny treatment room and I was not allowed to go into any other areas of the spa. Sure, I got a good deal on the facial but part of being in a spa is the relaxation, which I did not get in any way. Plus the attendant kept reminding me that she gave me extra time and was obviously angling for a bigger tip. We had been on an RCL cruise a few weeks before that and the spa experience there was so much better. I'm not sure if the profit margin is too low for Celebrity to care or what, but the spa seems like an afterthought for them.
  19. My husband and I were on the Summit in July to Bermuda and found the two-tops being so close to be very uncomfortable. We're not unsocial people but sometimes you just want a private conversation with your companion. One night we were seated next to a couple about our age. They were there first. As we sat down we smiled and said hello, like you do, and then proceeded to eat dinner and chat with each other. The other couple never spoke a word to each other the entire meal and only spoke to the waiter to order drinks and send some wine back the wife didn't like. They never even looked at us or tried to talk. They finished before we did and as they got up the man said (very sarcastically) "nice to speak with you" and then walked away. We were kind of taken aback - they never gave off body language like they wanted to speak with us and certainly never tried to make any conversation. The next night the same couple was there when we were seated but this time they were two tables down. Another couple, this time a little older, was seated next to us and struck up a conversation. We chatted nicely throughout the meal. The first couple shot us dirty looks the whole meal. Unfortunately, in an effort to have more two-tops it's almost like you are back to sitting at a table with strangers again!
  20. I hate to discourage people from using the bus on Bermuda. Riding the bus is part of the experience of being on the island. And it's a lot cheaper than a taxi. The buses are clean, the people were nice, and while it was hot it wasn't unbearable. We took a private taxi tour also, so it's not all about money for me. I enjoy seeing the "real" Bermuda.
  21. We were on Bermuda a couple of weeks ago and took the ferry and buses all over the island. The longest wait we had for a bus was about 15 minutes at the big bus terminal in Hamilton. There is a big map there and also an information kiosk. The bus system is easy to navigate. My only caution is that none of the buses we were on was air conditioned and it was really hot (over 90). But the breeze from the open windows helps. The Bermudians on the buses were extremely polite and helpful if you needed advice for where to get off (for the caves or a beach).
  22. I was on the Summit last week and used wi-fi calling all week long. I had the Surf internet only but wi-fi calling worked just fine. Interestingly, the connection was better (to the same phone number) using my husband's Samsung Galaxy S9 than with my iphone. I found the Surf internet worked great for everything except streaming movies and tv shows.
  23. We were in Bermuda last week and had a private tour with Quinton Bean. He was great and he showed us so much of the island we would never have done on our own. I asked him about other guides he refers people to when he is booked (and he is always booked way in advance). He said he has several people he refers groups to, but I believe "Ms. Grace" is his sister, who is also a qualified tour guide. The family owns several taxis and since he is so particular I'm sure whoever he recommends is great. If you do get lucky and have Quinton as your guide, make sure you work out all the details in advance. We had assumed we would only be on a 4 or so hour tour plus lunch, but once we got in the taxi he said that he planned on a 6 hour tour for us. It was a little too long. Also, you might want to have an idea of some things you really want to see. We didn't want to do shopping, the caves or beaches and didn't come with a list so he had to figure out what to do with us. It was great and we saw and learned so much - but he can really personalize the tour if you want.
  24. Are you talking the general one or the Captain's Club one? Last week the Captain's Club first event was in the afternoon on Tuesday (I'm pretty sure). Then the Select level and above Senior Officer's party was at 7:45 on Thursday (second port day in Bermuda). All the senior officers were at both of these. There was also an opportunity for everyone to meet and greet and take pictures on Monday evening (first sea day) but I don't think drinks were served at that one.
  25. Sorry - we never got there for breakfast. I saw someone in the MDR with a large bowl of oatmeal so I know they still serve it there. I have to say the smoothies at the Aqua Spa looked really good and you could pick your own ingredients.
