  1. While wind is a big factor as the ship is one big sail, you also have a tide/current component the Master factors in. There is a "rescue ship" (says RESCUE on the side) stationed at the island that has tug boat capabilities from what I observed that can offer assistance but I've never seen it used just moored with a crew nearby the docked ship.
  2. Not single ticket MNRR/LIRR ride which will come up on the train app.
  3. MetroNorth from Connecticut does not go to Penn Station and Amtrak does not go to Grand Central. Phyiscally Grand Central Station is further north and east on 42nd Street between Park Ave and Lexington Ave. Penn Station south and west but if taking Amtrak arrival is in the Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station on 34th Street between 8th and 9th Aves. Address is 350 W 33rd St, New York, NY 10001. There is no connection between the two Commuter rail stations, though technically doable it would require multiple trains and a trip out to Jamaica Queens for a transfer back into Manhattan.
  4. Check Amtrak out, if you purchase you can get fares less than what MetroNorth charges and you can have the crew call ahead for Red Cap service to help with your bags at Penn Station. There is service at Bridgeport BRP to NYP here is random March 3rd morning trips
  5. Even closer I've walked with airline-sized check baggage to the C/E subway stop at 50th Street and 8th Ave.
  6. This wasn't MSC but I reserved one cabin for Nephew and myself and wife reserved the other with her sister and niece. When I got to the cabin with my nephew so he could get his bags (yah we should have swapped luggage tags) the bed was set up as two separate and the Cabin Steward was doing his intro when I asked him to put the beds together at turndown. The look he gave us, stared at me then my nephew, went back and forth. I was about to ask a question, thought better of it, and said ok. We got a great kick out of that look he gave us.
  7. Yes, I hope the person wasn't singing Frank Loesser's 1944 "Baby, It's Cold Outside"

  9. Bridgeport is also served by Amtrak but not as frequently and if you buy in advance it can be as little as $5. Bridgeport identifier is BRP you are going to NYP. Right now the 2/23 6:47a departure is $5. 9:57a is $13 gets in at 11:21a. Cost well below the peak fare of MetroNorth. You can ask the train crew to call ahead for Red Cap service where Amtrak and yes with a someone in a red cap, will assist with your bags. A free service but tip is customary.
  10. September is high season in NYC, what is your budget? Are you okay with staying outside Manhattan and traveling by subway to the sites?
  11. The health questions don't ask about a cold. These are the questions from my November cruise and you are supposed to fill it out on embarkation day. Do you or any person below have a fever, feel feverish PLUS has ONE of the following symptoms? Cough, Runny Nose, Sore Throat Within the last 2 days, have you or any person listed below developed any symptoms of vomiting and/or diarrhea? If you answered YES to any of the questions above, you will be assessed free of charge by a member of our shipboard medical staff. Now I am not endorsing that you travel while feeling sick, possibly infecting others. That is between you and your doctor and if the doctor agrees your cruise insurance. The questionnaire is not as intensive as the ones during the reopening from the shutdown after COVID-19. They are back to looking for norovirus symptoms like they did before Covid.
  12. Gutiar sinks Top Sail Lounge, should have been the title. In unusual situations, staff do not have guidance so can come up with the wrong answer. You did the correct thing but it is a one-off occurrence. I can't see security or in reality, the contractor that is checking the contents of bags checked or carried on banning a guitar. What danger does it present? Distribing guests is the issue as you posted be it a musical instrument or a portable video game and you would report it the same way you did. I could post about an unsupervised child running around the Top Sail Lounge numerous times including on the shelf by the windows back and forth the entire length. The guardian of the child, a big tipper (I saw hip tipping) had the staff seem to supervise the child, now that "sunk to a new low" and it wasn't temporary but the entire cruise.
  13. @Sugar Magnoliago back further to further confuse you and the BMT used numbers. BMT Southern Division numbers 1-9 like the Brighton Line now B/Q used numbers. Brighton Beach was the 1, Franklin Ave (Now Shuttle) was 7, West End (now D) was 3, 4th Ave now R was 2, Sea Beach N was 4. Easter Division now the land of M/J/L was 10 thru 16. Don't get me started, we've thread drifted too much already.
  14. The US Department of Transportation protects airfare purchases with a regulation that requires airlines must offer either a free 24-hour price hold or free cancellation for 24 hours. This does not apply to cruise lines.
  15. It's up to the port contractor that checks your document which is really the picture and the document number you entered matches. As far as US C&BP as long as the document is machine-readable it is fine and they only look at the passport if you fail facial recognition on return. On our renewal on 1/2023 I got the old passport and Mrs. Brightonline got the new passport, both renewals were mailed in single outside envelope but separate envelopes within so no idea how we got different ones.
  16. Did you think airport gates are the only place that would happen? On your way back take the Staten Island Ferry, now that is a line up at the gate of all line ups 😉
  17. Last April a comedian on Meraviglia had shows in the TV Studio & Bar (2) and Carousel Lounge (1) but not in the Broadway Theater. Then in November on Mera they had one day a comedy act of a few comedians in the Broadway Theater as the show for the day followed by being in the last show of the voyage which had bits from every show that cruise.
  18. On every cruise I've taken with MSC my photo when I was able to get it to upload and be accepted was retaken by the port contractor at check-in. I've even had one retaken by security when boarding as they didn't like the one the port took.
  19. Yes back in 1995 I got envelopes, since auto tips I have never gotten an envelope no matter the cruise line and I sailed most mass market.
  20. You can't miss when they tell you to watch the video and then call the number that is given at the end of that video which is automatically answered. They will sound the ships emergency signal including the ship's horn as it is still required by SOLAS to sound then watch the video, call in and wait for your deck to be called. A lot of people don't wait my second cruise we had a line to get into the broadway theater to scan the card. All we did was at the entrance scan the card, walk along a row of seats, down three rows and back across that row and up the stairs back to the entrance and off to wherever we wanted to go.
  21. I travel the northeast corridor from Trenton to New Haven, most times on Public Transit (NJT/MNRR) but when I can buy well in advance Amtrak is cheaper then them. From my experience, there is no daily occurrence of delayed trains. There are choke points like only two tracks under the north river (Hudson) but even then it is rare that I have significant delay. Plan an early trip will cover 95% of the issues and the other 5% just can't insurance. Delays on common carriers like Amtrak are covered by most cruise insurance plans (don't by from the cruise line).
  22. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey raised tolls on January 7, 2024. The toll increase applies to the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington, Bayonne and Goethals bridges, and the Outerbridge Crossing. Drivers during off-peak hours will see the price rise 4.9%, to $13.38, from the current $12.75. Motorists who do not have a New York or New Jersey-issued E-ZPass will shell out even more, $17.63. That's a 3.7% hike from the current $17. Peak Hours Weekdays: 6 - 10 a.m., 4 - 8 p.m. Saturday & Sunday: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. https://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/en/tolls.html
  23. I know 14004 is next to a Butler Pantry, so you will hear the clinking of bottles when they pull inventory.
  24. I know our November curise a lot of YC staff were reaching the end of their contracts so there might have been a big turnover. Since the "restart," the contract times are not as staggered as they were in the past since a lot of the same start dates from the restart.
