  1. Best response to the ridiculous, defiant, babyish refusal to conform to a very easy dress code EVER!
  2. 100%…go! Unless people wear logos on all their clothes and drip with diamonds, you will never know who has what $$$. Nor will you care. Almost always the passengers who look the richest are the people who are the newest. My late husband and I felt that Silversea was the least pretentious of the “Ultra Luxury Lines” and that’s one of the main reasons we have happily stayed with Silversea since 1998. BON VOYAGE!
  3. I can’t believe it! I feel sure we were on the same Cloud trip in the fall of 2012. Great cruise! sailing up the Amazon was exciting but the day we went through the Brevis Narrows was certainly a highlight …..one of my favorite cruising memories. The photographs in this thread are wonderful..just as I remember! Now the Brevis Narrows passage is only available on the Expedition type cruises. When we went The Cloud and The Wind sailed as Classic cruises. Anyone thinking of a Manaus visit should be aware that only the two smaller Expedition ships can get thru this passageway.
  4. I think it is best to use an independent agent.
  5. My husband traveled with carry on and was able to bring a tux which he wore with the usual formal shirt, cummerbund etc. He brought well shined black loafers..these he could also wear every other night. For excursions he had good walking shoes which he also wore on the plane. He took a blazer, grey flannel trousers, 2 button down dress shirts, a couple of ties, 2 polo ****, two khaki daytime trousers, a neutral color cashmere sweater, sometimes a fleece jacket or rain gear. He also packed easy to wash out socks and under gear. Allowed size toiletries rounded out his packing. He always dressed appropriately and looked great. I got a kick out of how proud he was of himself. A few years ago I have started traveling with just carry on, and while it can be bit of a challenge, I like a challenge. I think our success at managing and actually enjoying the Silversea dress code is why I get a little and sometimes a lot irritated by the constant whining over requested dressing.
  6. Thanks for the information. I hope Gilbert has a wonderful holiday. I will miss him! i leave for Miami tomorrow to spend a night before flying to Lima on Tuesday. I think I and my 2 companions may be nuts to fly into a “complicated” situation. Even though I have spent a few days in Lima about ten years ago, I can’t remember very much about the city’s layout. I wonder if the Westin hotel is located in or near the area most likely to draw the protesters. The films I have seen look like the protests are heating up. It will be interesting to see how SS handles getting in and out of Calleo. I’ll report back.
  7. I said much the same as FauxNom. I would bet that this survey, or one very much like it is being sent to other affiliate lines’ passengers.
  8. I just looked at Fletcher’s photographs . They are outstanding. I have been to Stanley twice and both times we went into the town and walked the entire town. We had lunch in different pubs where the patrons were very friendly and chatty. We visited the grocery store and a general store where we bought hand knit sweaters …one with a penguin design which the recipient, a five year old grandchild, refused to take off. We attended a wedding at the Anglican Church , invited in by the bride’s father. Both visits were very special! I’d love to visit again.
  9. I will be boarding the wonderful Moon in Lima on December 21st, assuming that the political situation has been resolved peacefully. Could you please tell me who are the Captain, Hotel Director, and head Maître d’ ? I was on the Moon in September and the experience was terrific in every way. I am sorry to hear that the SS hotel in Barbados was disappointing. We are booked into The Westin in Lima…hope it’s nice as having a good experience at the beginning really does set the tone. The last time we started a SS cruise in Lima we stayed at the 5 Star Mille Flores. Lovely setting, nice rooms, but the smoking policy of NO policy was horrible. The bar and restaurant were smoke filled so we had to order room service. Just what good does it do to have non smoking rooms if you have to run thru the lobby to avoid breathing thick smoke? I see that SS still uses this hotel…for those staying there I hope there have been changes. And I sure hope The Westin management lis enlightened! .
  10. No one really knows who Dawn is, but we all know that Dawn is HOT!
  11. I can’t believe that I was mentioned on CC! This shows that we really are a community and it gave me a sweet little boost at a time when things are pretty terrible. I am homeless, bedraggled and still too stressed to be able to think straight. What I do 100% know is that in very dark times people do pull together and try to help. Our wonderful governor, the National Guard, the Coast Guard, total strangers have all come in to provide services and essential morale support. My house was torn up and totally flooded. and has mud and mold on everything from the floor to about 18” up. The best estimate I have heard is that it will take at least 2 months to restore the house to a safe condition. Of course I am far from alone. Some people have literally lost everything. Even when I am the most confused and frightened I know that I have friends who will take me in, and I can share ….only to this group…..that I will be back on the beautiful Silver Moon in December!
  12. I used to have my TA make a lot of independent arrangements, but, for now I feel more safe in booking everything thru SS. If there is trouble, SS will have to take care of me…right?? Feeling as safe as is possible in this very crazy world is worth a lot. What used to be too expensive is now just the price I feel I need to pay.
  13. I have stayed at the Shangri La Hotel four times. It is a big lovely hotel..a little out of the way. I have stayed at the Fullerton..great location, but as much as I love supporting restored landmarks, it was only okay. We stayed downtown at an international brand hotel which was built on top of a mall. Wish I could remember it’s name, but the first and only time in all my travels I suffered from a truly horrific jet lag sickness. What I remember about the hotel was that it was fine considering the circumstances. But, for my late husband and me there was only one hotel which we 100% loved. The Ritz Carlton Millennium, on the Club floor is superb. We stayed there four wonderful times. We have friends who fly to Singapore for about a week pre cruise just to enjoy this wonderful hotel. The service, food and ambiance in the Club lounge is unforgettable.
  14. I have followed this wonderful blog from your first post on. You write so well and are an efficient reporter who instinctively knows what your followers want to know. THANK YOU!
  15. Old Dog, new tricks? Nope, I’ll stick with Silversea.
  16. We always preferred deck 11. I will be staying in a Silver, deck 11, on The Moon, in September. Being close to The Observation Lounge is a big plus.
  17. What you describe is totally unacceptable. Call Silversea directly ASAP. If anyone out there has the name of a SS office person with clout, please post it. This lady is not being treated well…at all!
