  1. True. We've only been cruising since the early 90's and I don't need a hot tub or a water park, but access to a balcony is non negotiable. TV is pretty useful too. πŸ™‚
  2. Well I guess as long as the dress code adheres to 'of the time', then I guess it will be a real winner with those who long for the past πŸ˜• if, enormous if, it ever gets beyond the drawing board. I'll stick with the modernity of the C21st.πŸ‘
  3. Ditto but competitive squash and three dislocations caused my downfall [not literally thank goodness]. I always say I can't climb Everest, because although I could get up, I'd be stuck there as descending would be a nightmare! and that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!πŸ˜„
  4. As the library is most important to me, that was my reaction too. It will be interesting to see the choice of reading matter. Hopefully, pretty up to date as well as the tried and tested.
  5. We like Bamboo and utilising a Diamond perk, whichever the pop up, it's a great way to dine with friends who aren't in the same restaurant.
  6. No staff condescension when we lunched there on QV, but we thought the experience very pretentious.
  7. After a bit of shenanigans in our account on a pre Covid cruise, I check ours every couple of days and if you choose your time well, there will be no queue
  8. We looked at one of these trips. Cunard are offering flights to Miami as an extra at the time of booking.
  9. Ladies. Although I don't particularly 'conform' to any themes, these are gala nights and as such, ladies go as formal as you like. That doesn't mean ball gowns but it's a chance to bring out the long dresses [not 'maxi' in my case but not ball gown'ish either] and 'go formal'. Red and gold is OK for me as I have a beautiful r&g jacket to go with a long dress. Black and white's easy too but I don't bother with any of the other themes and I would say the vast majority of ladies ignore them too apart from the odd nod to the 20's with long strands of 'pearls' /feather hair what not etc, all available on Amazon. Don't go fancy dress, it's not needed. πŸ™‚
  10. Only if it's full! πŸ™‚
  11. Well said. Cunard is changing, of that there is no doubt but as long as there are enough 'of us' to keep up the traditions as best we can, then I have hope for the next few years. Cheers! 🍷 ps I don't like red wine but there's no white in the emoticons. πŸ™‚
  12. Believe it or not, I am SO precise when I order 'off' on a two weeker so I'm not disappointed and consequently, don't do guesswork. Now one of our six or seven weekers, maybe! πŸ˜„ Love the difference in terminology though. It lightens up the conversations. πŸ™ƒ
  13. Reminds me of American friends over in the UK on a secondment and were directed to a garden centre when they wanted to buy pot holders! πŸ˜„
  14. Two nations divi=ided by a common language which isn't so common in places πŸ˜„
  15. I have the full '24-Jan27 brochure and it most definitely states 4001 to 4042 are metal fronted and so the two mentioned on this thread have glass fronted balconies.
  16. So I gather. Personally, I'd consider that a sauce. Gravy is gravy; thickish, meaty and BROWN! πŸ˜„
  17. Not stayed in one but here goes. The widths are standard as for most Britannia cabins but deck four forward and aft benefit from deeper balconies 4050 and 4046 are glass fronted with the deeper balcony which means the very front of the balcony will be overlooked from above but it's not sheltered so gets more sun which would be a plus in my book. They are also very near the forward lifts so also a plus. πŸ‘
  18. 'All gravies are sauces, but not all sauces are gravy' πŸ˜… Sounds very tasty and would go well with pasta. πŸ™‚ but don't ask for gravy with your pasta dish 'over here'. Apart from the wait staff looking puzzled, the roast beef/lamb/turkey etc brown gravy would most definitely not enhance any pasta dish as we generally know it! πŸ˜€
  19. Gravy...with Spaghetti? I do hope that's a UK v US terminology difference! πŸ˜„ As exlondoner said in #26, it's also up to passengers to respect the 'rules'. However, 'the rules' need to be made plain and I'm getting the feeling blurring of the edges these days gives rise to more 'I'll do what I want'.
  20. I tend to use the ship's laundry but I find the best time to grab a passenger machine if required is around 9.30/10am on a busy port day when moored alongside. The early birds have caught the worm and others have flown the ship. πŸ™‚
  21. Do you mean the Cathedral or the HallgrΓmskirkja, which has a much taller tower and is architecturally fabulous?
  22. I can see the point re sound absorption and we have stopped dining in some pubs for that exact reason, but luckily, the venues we went to weren't large and the clientele, not particularly rowdy. Hopefully, Cunard will be similar. 🀞
  23. We have travelled the 'Noddy' train and the Flamsbana, on separate Flam visits. Our first ever Cunard cruise was to the fjords and 'everyone' said we had to do the Flamsbana. So we did. I'm glad we went and it ticked it off any potential bucket list but in hindsight, if we hadn't managed to get on the excursion, we wouldn't have missed much but again, that's with the benefit of hindsight. It was a stinkingly hot day in a very hot train which was quite uncomfortable, heat wise, but it was a pretty journey with waterfalls and Heidi alpine scenery. Our Cunard excursion had a stop half way for an unexceptional waffle and cream afternoon tea at the hotel there and then with the hoards, climbed back onboard for the return journey. We found the little museum of more interest. Yes, book it but lower expectations as it's a must do, but it's not the spectacular we had been led to believe. Noddy train whiled away an hour or so. Cute and we got a different perspective of the village and it's immediate fjord. πŸ™‚
  24. We've dined 'well', as opposed to top notch 'fine' eg. most definitely not pub grub, in a few places recently and the modern twist seems to be tables with beautiful appropriate tableware, and not a tablecloth in sight. We 'dined fine' a few weeks ago and yes, beautiful linens were definitely part of the experience. I have no issue with the lack of tablecloths in modern establishments which don't pretend to be 'fine dining'. I'll leave the tablecloth expectation to the main restaurants on-board.
  25. I consider myself a loyal Cunard passenger rather than any other title and I find it easy to get appointments with Future Sales but rather than favouritism as I don't know the staff now, and they don't know me, I assumed everyone can do the same if they phone up for a f2f. I did go and see them early last year to enquire about upgrading Q2 to a Q1 on a cruise later in the year, but was told the waitlist was quite long, so not worth bothering. OK. C'est la vie but when a Q1 appeared on the website [I looked twice a day after that], we booked it pdq! Had to pay the full difference, but we got our 'upgrade'.
