  1. It makes sense to me too, after someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the load the servers were taking when everyone would try to log in at midnight EST. Spreading the load out over different time zones makes more sense. But I am really curious (if the glitch still hasn't been fixed) what time people are able to check in for Australia cruises. LOL.
  2. She booked, if I remember correctly, the presidential suite for like 4 (or was it 6?) people: Her, her husband, and their kids. It might have been her first cruise and she was going all out on getting the best room and no VIFP/previous cruiser discount on the room. I think that total also included all the air travel to and from the port, hotel stays, etc. I think Carnival's offer for the 10k refund only included their cruisefare but she was holding out on getting her travel reimbursed too since they had already begun their journey to the port when it all happened.
  3. It really is. That is what this whole thread is discussing. Previously, you could check in at Midnight EST/EDT no matter what (well for NA cruises. Don't know about Euro/Austra cruises). Now they've apparently changed it so you can check it at Midnight for the time zone your ship is departing from. Departing from San Fran? Midnight PST/PDT. Departing from NY? Midnight EST/EDT. Depart from Galveston, Midnight CST/CDT. I don't know what time zone they pick for European or Australia cruises, I don't think I've seen any posts for those yet. It would be interesting if they went by AEST. Then you would be checking in at 10 am EST/EDT the previous day.
  4. I bet she signed up for some third-party site during her (probable) planning for the cruise and it was sending her emails with the "Share your countdown!" thing. Although why any of them would have your booking number in the tracker is beyond me. Maybe she personalized it and added that.
  5. It isn't about where you live but where your ship is departing from. If you were departing from an East Coast port, then yes, you would have been able to check in at 11 pm CDT (midnight EDT).
  6. You can log out or delete the app and the notifs should go away. But I'm with minniegidget, I like dreaming of what I *could* be doing right now. LOL.
  7. I think it has to be above a certain amount to be considered income. The IRS isn't gonna audit you over $25. But that would be pretty funny.
  8. That is true. They won't charge you for the one day you don't get to use it.
  9. If you mean the "Cruise Companions" section then you absolutely get an email about it asking if you want to add so-and-so as your cruise companion. Only if you accept can they be added to your booking as a cruise companion. Note: you give them your email address (or vice-versa) to be added to your/their booking. Not your booking number. If you/your wife gave them your booking number or vice-versa, then you run the same risk as the family in this news article.
  10. Yeah, but they probably spend far more money in the casino than that room probably would have cost. They'd try to convince you otherwise, but gamblers often only remember their wins and not their losses.
  11. Or just buy a power strip (without a surge protector) and use that. It's what I do. Edit: A power strip with a long cord. I should probably mention that. There are lots out there with like 15' cords n such.
  12. I get the Irish Coffee (sans the whiskey, ie, just bailey's and coffee). The chocolate lovers is also good.
  13. I doubt anyone from Carnival noticed it and manually cancelled all their booked excursions. I'm sure that was something automated that happened when the booking was cancelled.
  14. You are probably still either busy getting back home or having some downtime but I wanted to let you know that your piano bar menu (for carnival) is throwing up a 404 error 😞 And thanks for the awesome review of course 🙂
  15. Apparently the OP is volunteering. 😆
  16. I love watching Matt Heafy (Trivium) on Twitch too! I saw them in concert once and they were excellent. Edit: added second sentence 🙂
  17. These are the ones I'm used to, but I haven't been on any of the new fancy ships yet.
  18. Image is not great but that looks a little worse than paint scrapes
  19. Wait a second... the ubiquitous blue pool towel is now... Mauve? Purple? Maroon? something not Carnival blue unless your camera did a funny filter thing.
  20. Except supposedly (according to previous comments) the gratuity paid to bar staff is only divided out among them, not amongst the entire crew. And (in the case of Conquest class ships for example) 1000 crew of a total 2000 crew is not all barstaff. And again, as I mentioned in a previous comment, I'm not arguing that they shouldn't be tipped more or given fairer wages. I was responded mainly to wherever someone said that those with Cheers don't pay gratuity, because they do, even if it is a measly 84 cents per drink.
  21. You edited your post after I responded to it so I decided to do some mathing. (You originally said something along the lines of Cheers people don't pay gratuity, and you probably mistyped or didn't mean it that way but it changes the meaning of my previous response). Going with a basic 5 day cruise at 69.95 per day amounts to 349.75 then the 18% of that is 62.96. Then, let's say that the person drinking makes their 15 drinks every day for 5 days (poor liver), that's 75 total drinks. 62.96 divided by 75 drinks is equal to $0.84 per drink (nearly $1 which is what I've seen many a person claim to tip per drink). Then remember that there are potentially thousands of people (on Excel class) who possibly have the drink package. Or at least hundreds (on Conquest class). So it isn't a pittance for the bar staff. And for people like myself who may only drink 6 drinks a day that's a whopping $2.10 gratuity per drink. Or the people who get overgenerous when they are drunk and tip even if they are on the package/dou.
  22. There's a Casino Players section on the Hub app now. I'm pretty sure that's where I noticed mine was listed.
  23. Those who purchase Cheers pay the 18% gratuity when they purchase the package, so they've already paid 18% in advance. Whether or not it is an equitable 18% I'm not even gonna delve into but it isn't like they didn't tip at all. The Drinks on Us is supposedly paid for by the cruiseline and they would be paying the gratuity (one hopes).
