Hi

We are looking at balcony cabins on Solstice and wondered if anyone has any advice on which number would be a good choice please. Only second cruise so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Kat

Are you asking for a specific stateroom number, or a stateroom category, or information on different locations? Sorry, but your question is a bit vague and there are hundreds of balcony staterooms in different categories and locations to consider. Those within each category are the same and most, regardless of category, are in very good locations for their view.

In general, locations near the elevator banks are desirable for their convenience. It usually is best to look at staterooms on decks where there are only staterooms above and below to minimize any concerns for possible noise from other venues. Most face out from either side of the ship but the aft facing ones offer an interesting view to the rear. Many options to consider.

For information about different staterooms and locations, I would suggest going to the following link and then go to the spreadsheet link to see descriptions of different "S" class ship staterooms:

Or perhaps provide us with more specifics as to what you are interested or concerned about with your balcony stateroom choice. Happy to help with anything we can.

Agree with above. Location of cabin is personal choice. ….close to elevators or near the end of deck for less foot traffic.

We our always more concern about bed placement.....Solstice cabins alternate every other cabin from bed near balcony to bed near bathroom.

All veranda cabins are the same size on the Solstice. The interiors are also the same (decor, storage, furnishing) with the exception of AQ class cabins which have a upgraded shower with jets but otherwise the same.

Some cabins have larger verandas such as the 1a cabins & a few others, some have obstructed views, some partially obstructed views.

I would suggest you pick a veranda category at price point you are comfortable with, see which cabins are available and then check the

S class Canin Sticky near the top of this forum to see what others who have stayed in the cabins reported.

Thanks for the replies. Good comments on location and the spreadsheet info.

Looking at possibly cabin 9264. Interested in the comments around the placement of the bed - never gave this a thought around what difference it could make?

I don't know the specifics on this particular stateroom in terms of bed location - maybe someone else can answer - but the difference is the bed near the closet / bathroom with the couch on the balcony door side, or reversed with the bed near the balcony door and the couch inside near the closet / bathroom. To some that choice matters.

9264 is on the front side of the starboard side hump near the elevator lobby, with only staterooms above and below. The balcony with its forward slant may be a bit larger than standard and will offer a nice forward view as well as to the outside. IMO this is a good location.

9264 is a 1A cabin with the bed next to the balcony. When you look at a deck plan for a S-class ship, if it has a black square on the cabin, it means there is a convertible sofa next to the balcony and the bed is near the closet and bath. Those without squares, like 9264, have the bed next to the balcony and a non-convertible sofa near the bath.

Half of the angled balcony cabins near the hump have larger balconies than the other half. 9266 & 9270 are larger than 9264 & 9268. Same thing for the all the other cabins in the same relative positions (mirror images port & starboard, forward & aft) on all decks.

The angled balcony cabins forward of the straight part of the hump have a forward view but also catch the wind as the ship moves forward; if you like a 20 to 25 knot breeze no problem, but my choice is one of the larger aft angled balconies such as 1A cabins 8279, 8283, 8252 or 8256.

Enjoy.

That is true if the ship is traveling at say 15 knots into a 10 knot headwind. But not the case if, at the same ship speed, the wind is trailing at 10 knots, at which point the relative wind speed would be 5 knots.

The point being that the actual wind felt is relative to the actual ship speed in relation to the direction and strength of the actual wind encountered. And the relative wind speed, although not felt as much with the normal side facing balconies as those with the angle facing forward on the hump, would be the same regardless of location on the ship.
