Vigo, Spain

Recommended Posts

We loved Vigo when we docked there last Sumer and one of the most interesting tours we have done in any port - and definitely the best value - was there with http://tours4cruisers.com/en/vigo-tour/

Ours was not a private tour but they may well be able to create one for you if you contact them.

They are a fairly new company staffed with really enthusiastic young guides (many of whom wear local costume) and we will be using their services again when we return to Vigo on our cruise in May.

For anyone not wanting a private tour the 2.5 hour trip (we were actually on for the best part of 3 hours) is unbeatable value and cost less than half the price of the similar ships excursion.

We have been to Vigo. It's not all that interesting. I would strongly suggest a tour to Santiago de Compostela if you have not been there before. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Cathedral is the destination for zillions of pilgrims who arrive by foot, bike, etc. along the Camino de Santiago. Interesting town as well. No need to be Catholic, or religious, to appreciate the architecture and history.

Sorry - I disagree. It is a fascinating taste of real Northern Spanish life and a nice change from touring cathedrals and museums. Also a great place for lovers of seafood - especially Oysters.

You might like to take yourselves to Pontevedra, 15 mins from Vigo Urzaiz train station then a 5€ taxi ride into town, Ayuntamiento or Plaza de España. Get a map from the tourist office there and explore. You don't need a guide. The town has the most beautiful old quarter in Galicia after Santiago de Compostela. It also has really good bars and restaurants where you can taste the excellent local wine Albariño and seafood. The fish market also in the old quarter is also worth a visit. My favourite eateries are Bagos in Calle Michelena and any of those that line the lovely Eirado da Leña, one of the most picturesque squares in the whole of Spain. The town also boasts one of the best provincial museums in the country. So many reasons to visit Pontevedra actually.

Thank you so much for this information. It's exactly what I was looking for.
