Is that new wharf for cruise ships? I thought it was for the navy

I don't think Vanuatu has a navy, only some police patrol boats.

It's to be an industrial wharf. The Lapetasi International Multi-Purpose Wharf, built with Japanese money.

"The objective of the Project is to build a new wharf and construct container yard and facilities at the Star Terminal site in the Port Vila to mitigate high berth occupancy at existing International Wharf, and to improve efficiency and mitigate present very high cost of stevedoring, delays and congestion causing poor delivery capacity of FCL containers and LCL cargo to consignees."

Being constructed by Fletcher NZ.

It will allow them to move the cargo ships away from the cruise ship wharf.

The way they work should be finished in 100 yrs

Good on them, at least they are having a go. They have been through a tsunami and two cyclones in recent history.

And with the jiggery pokery of problems going on in Sydney Harbour I BET they finish the project and resolve their issues before we ever do.
