Difference between preferred and priority boarding a

You have the option to board early. That’s a good thing!

The change from "preferred" to "priority" represents a dumbing down of the language in the benefit. It means that Princess has the option to allow you to board early. But not the necessity or obligation.

Preferred Boarding meant that you had preference over those without it.

Priority Boarding only means you are regarded as more important than those without it. It may include being given favor over others--but the obligation is not built into the definition.

Preference is a tangible benefit; Priority, only a concept.

So if Princess changed the wording because somebody thought that Priority sounds more important than Preferred--they totally blew it.

(H/T to google online dictionary for their distinctions)

Princess has been testing selling "priority boarding" to passengers not otherwise eligible for it.

Thus the change on the boarding pass.

However those paying for "priority boarding" will board after wedding parties, BVE, Elite/Suites and Platinum passengers.
