Booked Norwegian Joy for Alaska Jun 2019! Looking forward to it.

We're celebrating my Dad's 80th bday and booked two rooms. Debated booking the Bliss but excited about the revamping of the Joy. I do like that the Joy is a bit smaller 3883 versus 4990. I kept reading how the Bliss was crowded and the elevators took forever. My Dad won't be able to to a ton of stair walking so hoping it'll be easier on the Joy.

So,,, I think that you are comparing the 3883 (will be less on the new Joy where rooms will be removed to build the observation lounge) with the 4004 capacity on the Bliss (both are double occupancy capacities). Both ships are mega ships, and there will be contention for the elevators. You just have to be a bit patient and you'll be fine. We have sailed on big ships on multiple cruise lines, and it is all the same. Lines and waiting around show times, etc.

The only thing holding me back from the Joy is the lack of a thermal spa.

I debated the Joy last week when I booked our Alaska cruise for next summer. It was even cheaper, but theres just something about the Bliss that got me :D

Other than the Concierge rooms, other room classes will be similar to her sisters Escape, Bliss, Breakaway, and Getaway. Search for those on Youtube.

The public areas will be totally different as they remove all of the features put in for the Chinese market (there goes the seafood buffet) and replace it with those common on her sister ships.

I have a large group sailing on the Joy in June 2019 too!! We booked when it was still the Pearl but are super excited with the change to the Joy!!

Will Joy’s deck plan change a lot before she comes to the US?

I managed to find the current plan of Joy and deck 15 looks very different from Bliss. But I can’t work out how she is supposedly carrying fewer people because the current plan shows more rooms and less public space than Bliss.

The observation Lounge is abou 1/3 of Deck 15. Same as on the Bliss. With the Buffet taking up the same foot print a deck above.

• The karaoke rooms on deck six will be replaced by a conference and card room (not to be confused with the chess and card room on the same deck), as well as part of the new photo studio.
  
• Also on deck 6, the current atrium cafe will be replaced with a Starbucks, while the Sakura & Hibiscus (think Korean barbecue) will be replaced with the Teppanyaki found on other NCL ships.
  
• The VIP casino — which is on a completely different deck than the regular casino — will be replaced by an entertainment venue of some sort.
  
• Deck 7’s Joy Tea Room will become The Local (the line’s 24/7 restaurant which had been known as O’Sheehan’s until the name-change when Bliss was introduced).
  
• What had been The Grand Tea Room on deck 8 will become the District Brew House, while Le Cave will be renamed The Cellars. Some of the high-end shopping outlets currently occupying this deck will be cleared out to make room for the Sugarcane Mojito Bar and the photo gallery.
  
• Neptune’s Seafood Restaurant, currently across from Cagney’s on deck 8, will become the Mexican restaurant Los Lobos.
  
• One of the biggest changes will be on deck 15, where the Concierge Lounge and some of the accompanying staterooms will be replaced with the Observation Lounge, which was first introduced on Bliss.
  
• The Serenity Park which currently occupies much of deck 16 is gone, replaced with more space for the sun deck as well as a stage for entertainment.
  
• The fitness center will be relocated from deck 16 (where it appears the Mandara Spa will expand) to deck 17, replacing the Noodle Bar.
  
• The biggest change to the Haven will involve the removal of deck 18’s Haven Casino, which will be replaced with the Haven Library (which is on the second level of the Haven Observation Lounge).
  
• On deck 19, a sun deck which is currently located beyond the go-kart race track will be replaced with mini-golf.
