CaribbeanIsland Posted November 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2017 Thanks -- I had been waiting for this. I can't believe the Royal Princess will be in Alaska. Too big.

rocklinmom Posted November 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 30, 2017 I'm glad we're doing the Star this summer on the Vancouver/Anchorage route...I can't imagine how the Royal will do on that route. Seems way too big for the Alaska ports.

Seems way too big for the Alaska ports. Do you think it is better to avoid the Royal for Alaska? I am currently planning for Summer 2019 and was planning to go on the Coral, but the allure of a newer ship... ;p I was on the Regal for a Scandinavia/Russia cruise and enjoyed it, but the idea of a ship that large in the Alaskan ports seems a bit much. I like the Coral Princess but I like the smaller ships. Large ships are in Alaska already and maybe in port with you anyway so it doesn't make a difference if you are on a large ship or in a port with a large ship. I personally would avoid the Royal Princess as I like a Promenade deck for glacier days and watching for wild life and the Royal Princess doesn't have an outside Promenade deck like the other ships do. rocklinmom Posted December 1, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 1, 2017 Excellent point! I can't imagine Alaska without a promenade deck. There is not much outside space on the bigger ships.
starfox Posted December 2, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 2, 2017 Very true! Outdoor space seems especially important on an Alaskan cruise. Thank you!
