Soda card or soda by the glass?

We will be traveling on the Pride of America next month and we are trying to decide if we should buy soda cards when we get on the ship or just buy a soda when we want to have one.

Does anyone know the cost of a soda card and the cost of an individual soda on the POA?

for adults:

i buy the soda card plus carry-on soda so i am never without--the carry-on soda is usually for the cabin at night so i dont have to go out and get one...i drink alot of soda and definitely want Ginger Ale available to me so the card is worth the price!

I just want to make certain that I understand.

If you buy the soda card, you get unlimited fountain soda.

If you buy a single soda, you get a can of soda.

Is that true wherever you are, the dining room, the pool bar, etc?

Is it not possible to buy a fountain soda at a bar?

We got one for our son the only big soda drinker in our family. He is 16 and loved it. I know others have said to get one or two and share them, no one checks to see who drinks the soda after you get it.

I drink Ice tea and wife drinks water so that is not something we did. BTW the water on the ship is as good as any bottle. Just bring a travel cup.

In the morning they have apple orange and cranberry at the buffet. You can get Grapefruit prune and some others at the main dinning room. We would fill some extra and put it in the room fridge for latter in the day.

They weren't fountain sodas on the Spirit. They were from 2-Lt bottles.

Also, we specifically asked for cans on 4 occassions, and we were given cans 3 of the times. One of them did give us a lecture about how he's not supposed to be giving us a can. But we needed chasers for our rum! :D

I personally think soda is the biggest rip off out there. If you are going to drink less than 3 a day on a 7 day cruise then go to the local walmart and buy a case of 24 for $6-$7 instead of paying $2-$3/drink on the ship. If they allow you to bring your own soda you would be a fool not to.

Or possibly someone doesn't want the hassle of carrying all that soda (or is physically limited from doing so);).

:(:( I tried that, my DH name is Ronnie, and I gave my card, but nope, they didn't allow it. I don't know how they knew.

I'm not sure if you a being sarcastic or not but just in case you don't know....when they scan your card, your photo comes up on their scanner.....not hard to tell if it's someone else.

We put the soda card under my girlfriend's card. She got a tiny little Pepsi sticker on her card. Any time we wanted soda, we just showed the card. They never scanned the card for ordering just soda. Needless to say, I used my girlfriend's card several times when getting her/myself/us a soda.

NCL reads the boards so if they read that everyone is doing this, they will change the way things are done--so dont go bragging that you "shared" and got away with it!:D

We bought a soda card for our son on the Pearl last week and any of us could get it with his card. We were not drinking it, but if dh or I went up to get him a soda they just looked at the sticker. No swiping.

A couple of weeks ago on the Star it was only fountain pop for us. I debated getting soda cards for my two teenagers but I'm glad we didn't. Every once in a while they wanted a virgin daiquiri or a Shirley Temple instead of soda. So it worked out better for us just to pay as you go.

Maybe the fools among us realize we are on vacation and don't want to carry cans of soda to lunch or run back to the cabin every time we need a new one. And I have to laugh at the money saving tips from people who spent thousands to go on the trip to begin with. It's like the people who get killed in casinos but brag about all the free drinks they got.

As for the stealing, how pathetic and desperate do you have to be to try to rip someone off over sixty bucks?

We're a 50/50 couple. We both drink a LOT of Diet Coke; too much in fact. But I absolutely hate paying such a high premium for sodas in a restaurant, let alone a cruise ship, so I never bother buying single sodas, let alone a card. We do, however, buy a soda card for my partner because he just can't go without.

Incidentally, I did take folks advice here and brought a couple of twelve packs on board during embarkation. Worked out well and I liked having soda in the cabin.
