Just back from the Celebrity Summit Southern Caribbean cruise (leaving San Juan for St. Croix, St. Kitts, Dominica, Grenada and Tobago.) Overall we had a fantastic time. This cruise seems perfect for the aging baby boomer types which we are. Any questions, just ask.

I had a great time on the 3/5 sailing. Food was quite good, did not notice a laundry special. Fun activities on the ship. An outstanding vocal group for the main shows. Expecially nice and outgoing crew. I would go back in a moment!

Had one problem in Tobago - really wanted to do the glass bottom boat. Some of us got with Miss Elly and it was a horrible experience. Do not book with him. Never did get there. The man is a poor excuse for a businessman and in reality a down right liar.

Hey you lucky cruisers who are going on this trip on Summit. We did it in January. The only disappointment I had was that the ship was not updated.

Ports: St. Croix, we took a van to Christianstad. The bummer was that we were there on a Sunday, and learned that many shops are closed on Sunday. We then walked a short way to the pier and took a ferry a very short distance to a nice beach hotel. Forgot the name of the hotel, but if you are there you will figure it out.

St. Kitts: Took Fan-Ta-Sea snorkel sail. FUN FUN FUN. We were a group 40's/50's and had a blast. Great crew, good snorkeling, nice lunch.

Dominica: I did a cooking excursion to a private home in the hills. It was hands-on, very nice.

Grenada: Went to the beach, took the water taxi. Easy to do.

Tobago: Last stop and we were a bit tired from all of the ports! Here we just grabbed a cab and they guy was really cool. He took us up to the fort and gave us a tour/history. Our friends went to a beach and said it was the nicest beach they saw. I wish we had done that also.

Have fun!!

Also just back from the 3/5 sailing. :D Had a wonderful time and really liked the ship.

I do remember something about a laundry deal - all you can fit in the bag without tearing it. Don't remember when it was or how much.

There were a lot of tournaments going on in the casino. Texas Hold'em especially. When you cash out on the slots you get real money, just like in the olden days.

Did two beach days on our own - St. Croix and Granada. In St. Croix, at the end of the pier, you can get a RT ticket for a ride in a van to Sand Castle on the Beach resort. Once there you buy a $5 day pass that includes a chaise lounge on the beach and use of their swimming pool, outdoor shower, and restroom. They also have a restaurant and bar. Drinks were outstanding. Pool was small, but uncrowded and very nice. Beach was perfect. Sun was very strong.

In Granada we went to Grand Anse beach. Walk into the building at the end of the pier and ask how to get to the water taxi. It is a separate exit. It is $8 RT to the beach. If you prefer a taxi, most people paid $10 for two one-way. On the way back, the water was too choppy to go the same place we got on so we had to walk a few blocks to get back to the ship. If you don't want to walk, buy a one-way ticket on the way there and you have the option of taking a taxi back. Once on the beach you can go left or right. To the left you have a nicer restaurant. To the right you have better swimming. Also to the right there is a market where you can buy spices and clothes and stuff. You can buy limited food and some pretty good drinks for $5. We rented two chairs and umbrella for $15.

Did nothing in Tobago. By that time I really needed a sea day. The area at the end of the pier is very local. If you need a drug store, there one's less than a block away. Went there and right back to the ship and enjoyed the pools. People who did the ship's trip to Pigeon Point beach along with the glass bottom boat to Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool really enjoyed it.

If you want to learn how to arrange a dozen roses perfectly, go to the floral demonstration in the Conservatory.

There just wasn't much time for daytime activities unless you don't eat or enjoy the pool.

We had comedian Fred Klett on our

Barb

St. Croix, Did ship tour last year which was nice, this year opted for Bigbeards ~ Great day out on their Catmaran Renagade.. Not overcrowded.. unlike thru the ship you actually get to stop for a while on Buck Island before going to the snorkel site on the other side..this excursion also included lunch on a beach back on St Croix after the snorkel..

St. Kitts: Took Fan-Ta-Sea snorkel sail. EXCELLENT Very Highly recommend it.. In the past done The Sugar train, and also Thenford Grey to Romney Manor and Cockleshell Beach.. The latter 2 once would be enough, I would do the Fan-Ta-Sea over and over again...

Dominica: We did a private tour with Bumping Tours.. Energetic Day... You need Keens or Merrils.. Titou Gorge, Trafalgar falls and finished at Champagne reef.. Champagne reef would be best done off a boat than from land really rough and difficult getting in and out as very rocky..

Grenada: Took the water taxi to Grand anse beach.. We've done the Island spice tour in the past and have found that chill'n on the beach is the best thing to do in Grenada..

Tobago: Not at all enamoured with Tobago.. Did Bucco Reef and Nylon pool last year, this year planned to spend the day at Pigeon point... In the end stayed on the ship... 1st time ever we've not got off at a POC..

We are leaving on March 26th and I do have a few questions:

Did they do a "stuff the bag" laundry special, and if so, was it close to the middle of the week? How was the food?

Thanks!

Back from a B2B after not receiving a laundry Bag week during week one I asked our stateroom attendant on week 2, he said they had stopped doing it for 7 day cruises...

I guess I could have argued the point I was a 14 day one ! LOL

Any port experiences that you would recommend? We can't wait for our April cruise!

We just returned from an 11 day southern Caribbean on the Milli. We independently booked a day package with "Papillote Wilderness Retreat" on Dominica. Oh my, this was THE highlight of our cruise. If anyone is interested in details, just ask. :)

tobago is awful. i'm not quite sure how to put it to words but those of us that have been there know what i'm talking about.

Wow. Getting ready to head out on the Summit April 2 and this was the one port I was really looking forward to visiting. Could you elaborate? We were planning to take a taxi to Pigeon Point and do a glass bottom boat there.

Any port experiences that you would recommend? We can't wait for our April cruise!

Our highlights from 2/5--

St. Croix, Sandcastle On The Beach, already mentioned.

St. Kitts, Royston Tours. He has an older van (good condition, though), with pexiglass windows he can pop out for a nice open-air drive, or pop them in if it starts to rain. We went on pretty much every road, path, and goat trail on the island-- fantastic views! Even drove down onto the beach at one point. Lunch (rotis) and drinks were provided. For a group of eight, our price was $25pp.

Dominica, private tour with Andy, a driver another member of our group arranged-- think he's connected with Bumpiing. I forget what we paid, but it was reasonable. Lunch and drinks provided. Titou Gorge was cool, literally-- the water's cold, but it's a fun swim to as close as you can get to the double waterfall. We skipped Champagne Reef and snorkeled at Scott's Head, an underwater volcanic crater. Just a little ways from shore, it drops off about 600 feet. DW is a fish person, she just loved it!

Grenada, we were getting tired, so just did a 90 minute cab tour for $10pp. Cab drivers there are pushy and aggressive, but we took it in stride.

Tobago, we went to Arnos Vale Hotel for snorkeling at their beach. Total cost was $18pp including tip for the driver to get us there. Gorgeous, idyllic cove! Abundant marine life! We and three other couples that went with us had the place to ourselves for most of the morning. If you don't snorkel, still a nice beach day. Lunch and drinks there are relatively expensive, so we preplanned to leave at noon (last port, we were pooped), but in retrospect it would have been a good value if we had stayed all day. Others with us told us that it was the best stop of the cruise.

I guess we just got lucky but we paid $8 each to go to Pigeon Point Beach - by taxi. We walked the beach all the way around - felt very safe - gorgeous place - paid $5 for chair for the day. We really enjoyed watching the people windsurfing and using kites. Then we took a glass-bottom boat ride ($20) to Buccoo Reef and Nylon Pool - both great spots. We left the ship early - right at 8 and when we got to the beach it was almost empty. We did our boat thing at 11 and it lasted 2 hours. When we got back to the beack at 1 it was a zoo so go early. At 1 we were ready to to go back to the feeding trough. It was a great day and for $33!

Hi, I was on the same cruise as "Partyalldatime"....Hi Steve:)

I went with some folks from our roll call on an independent catamatarn

tour called ISLAND GIRL. It was 85.00 including lunch and 2 snorkeling

stops. It was fair, the folks who ran it were very nice:) but it was

VERY rocky on the way back:(. I know you can't control the weather

and I didn't get sick but was queasy for a long time:( Felt all better

as soon as we got back to land though.

It was my first time in Tobago and I will say the folks in the pier

area (taxi drivers especially) are VERY aggressive. If you already

have plans and tell them that (which I did) they still hound you...

I just kept walking........

I would say Tobago is not my favorite stop.

I booked this privately months ago.

My friends over on our roll call are really looking forward to this.

What time did they pick you up at the pier and drop you off?

How was the food and drinks? :D

Also the snorkeling?

Hi there:) you have to walk through the terminal and go outside...

turn to the left and I think the gal's name is Sarah who picked us up.

I think it was around 10 or 10:30?...been a few weeks since I sailed;)

The food was VERY good...the capt was the cook...it was a buffet

set up on the cat....everyone loved the food:). I did not snorkel

but most folks seemed to enjoy it. They got us back about 20-25

minutes before we sailed....oh out of all the days....the waters were

rough and then at the end before we got back to land it POURED

literally....POURED:eek:

Oh Danny was the Capt and he grilled fish (marinated and BBQ)....

really delicious! Also had chicken and lots of sides.....drinks were good

too....booze, beer, juice, soda, water...etc..

If I go back there again, I will either 1) go to Pigeon Point

or 2) stay on the ship....

when we went to tobago, i think it may have been celebrity's first time at that stop. there were no ship recommended shore excursions nor were there any ship recommeneded shops.

we got off the ship and paid a taxi driver for a "tour" of the island. he took us to a beach to suggest we buy trinkets there! he pretty much showed us nothing, talked on his cell phone and stopped his car several times when he saw "business" conacts. he actually left us in teh car to make "business" arrangements.

in the end, he dropped us off at the fort on the top of the hill, a mile or so from the ship which was "okay" but nothing all that special.

maybe the ship does offer tours now? if so, definately do a ship tour and do not try to venture out on your own, you will be disappointed. i like to do the ship tours but for my sailing there were none.

Yes her name is Sarah, corresponded with her several times.

I don't mind rough seas. Been on quite a few.

Rain on an excursion, well that's a horse of a different color.

On our RC cruise we hit a tropical storm. Speakers, loungers, everything were flying around. Captain did a great job getting us through it.

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed it doesn't rain on this cruise.

In Tobago we did some great snorkeling with Peter on the Zoe, check out his reviews on trip advisor. There were six of us, $60 pp, well worth it, someone on our roll call made the arrangements, and we joined in and had lots of fun. We saw lots of the island from off shore and had several great snorkel stops.

We're thinking of booking Nov. 26 - did you stay in San Juan the night before or fly in on day of embarkation? How was the Summit? We've sailed Infinity, Solstice and Eclipse on Celebrity and enjoyed them all. Thanks!
