Inaugural Dream cruisers cheated on entertainment

Dream was a shake down cruise, not an inaugural. The entertainment staff was not ready and we had only two big shows in 12 days. Other entertainment was marginal AND we had no shows the first two days and the last day. Not good. Lots of unhappy people. I think cruisers should have been compensated for the fact that the ship was off schedule but not a thing. The phone system had issues also.

. . . that the FIRST comment we've read regarding the new Carnival Dream is all negative. Future Dreamers have been anxiously waiting for ANY word about the ship. Was there any redeeming value to the cruise?

Actually if you go to their roll call they were reporting all the time, entertainment was one of the issues mentioned on there.

In defense of CCL, let me say...

Carnival Dream is to sail a 7-8 day routine (or so), and in that time period they would usually have only two production shows, plus the tidbit at the Welcome Aboard show. To expect more shows than that on a 12 day cruise is unreal. I sailed the inaugural of the Star Princess in 2002, and in 26 days we had only two production shows. I puzzled about that until I realized she was going to be sailing 7 day cruises from LA, and that was all they would need on a week cruise. We did see older shows, scaled down, in a smaller lounge. Shows I had seen three years before on Royal Princess. EM

Good point about the fact that the ship will "normally" be doing a 7 day so there would only be two production shows even on the longer inaugural cruise but if that's the case, maybe they should do the shows for 2 nights each. That way people could choose which night they'd like to see the show, there wouldn't be as much trouble getting good seats because there would be fewer people at each show, and the entertainment staff would get more practice. Just an idea, maybe it wouldn't be practical.

There are shows every night so something else would then be displaced. They stopped doing 2 shows a night because there was not sufficient demand.

Med cruises are port intensive and most people are running all day and are too tired to do much at night.

After reading on the roll call...the problem was that there is supposed to be 3 shows on Carnival Dream, but they only had 2 that were ready. They also said they were told that this was not the inaugural cruise that the one from New York will be the inaugural.

I've gone on a ship when it was brand new. I've learned from that experience to wait a few months before sailing a new ship. It takes a while to learn the ropes. So, if you sail in the beginning you need to realize everything will not be perfect.

We are all waiting for info on the ship. How was the newest biggest ship? As others have said there will be problems on the first few cruises, how could you book this cruise and not realize that? I like going to the shows but if one got cancelled that is not going to ruin my cruise.

This is really not very useful information for anyone. To late for anyone going on the next cruises to canel, not really going to matter on the shorter cruises. We are on the 9 day and I never even thought about how many shows we would get.

The OP probably wants to vent and that is ok but could you please share so info on what the ship was like?

To be disappointed that there were only two instead of the planned three big shows is one thing, but to be mad is unreasonable. Yes, you may have been shortchanged out of one show, but considering how many other entertainment venues are on board it's not earthshaking.

There's the new comedy club, piano bar, karaoke, big band, the casino, etc etc etc. It's not like there weren't other things on board as far as entertainment options.

Well, there are risks involved in cruising on any sort of inaugural or pre-inaugural....or even subsequent cruises for several weeks. There are always kinks and other matters that show up that need fixed or need attention.

Nothing ever works perfectly on an inaugural cruise. Heck, Mardi Gras got stuck on a sandbar for 2 days in it's inaugural.

I think veteran cruisers and those who've done advanced research on inaugurals are fully aware that not all things are likely to crop up.

Would be nice if you'd tell us about the ship, what it looks like, how's the shopping, the food and service.....

Guess not....:(
