I have walked between San Marco and the train station several times (P. Roma is 5-10 min. from the train station). It is an easy 25 - 30 minute stroll.

 

Note: schlepping luggage is not easy; the above assumes no luggage.

We have walked it several times on both sides of the Grand Canal. On the Pl Roma side there are more twists and turns but you just follow the arrows to St Marks or Realto Bridge. On the train station side it is a much straiter walk. 30 minutes is a good estimite as it really depends on how fast a walker you are and if you stop for the sights. We like to walk there one way and walk back the other.

If you're walking with luggage, don't forget about the bridges and steps

Thanks for all the tips. We were able to do the walk in 40 minutes - I guess it would take longer if one gets lost because it's pretty easy to get lost!
