newcruiser80 Posted November 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2009 Anybody have a time preference for dining at Chops and Portofino? I think I've narrowed it down to Tuesday and Wednesday (Days 3 & 4 for the Western sailing of Liberty) but not sure which time slots to book. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Why can't I decide on my own? Love having your help! PS - Is it sick we're contemplating an early reservation for the opportunity to have second dinner with our table at the second seating? cb at sea Posted November 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2009 I don't know why you can't decide---it's YOUR stomach! Just like everything else, what works for one, won't work for the other! I don't know if it's "sick" contemplating 2 meals, but you WILL be ill if you actually do it.
jmf123 Posted November 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2009 We are typical early diners and book 6 or 6:30 for the specialty restaurant. That also provides plenty of time to see the evening show, go to the casino, and enjoy the evening. Others may prefer to have cocktails before dinner and book a later meal at 7:30 or 8:30. You may want to consider if it is a relaxing day at sea or a hectic port day, where you may want more time to get ready for dinner.

nanfromatlanta Posted November 3, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 3, 2009 We usually make our reservations as close to the traditional dining times as possible. That way we don't miss any of the shows or activities. ;)

Rala Posted November 3, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2009 Wow! If you can eat a full meal at Chops or Portifino and then go and eat again in the dining room, my hat's off to you or maybe better off to you would be my belt !!!! Good Luck! Rare donswife Posted November 4, 2009 #9 Share Posted November 4, 2009 Keep in mind that dinner in a specialty restaurant will take longer than MDR. We went at 6:30 and were done at around 9pm, if I remember right. It was a leisurely, delightful meal.

We hate to miss the shows. Thank you so much!
kyriecat Posted November 4, 2009 #11 Share Posted November 4, 2009 If you want to catch the late shows, make your reservations for around 7:30. It really can take about 2 hours for the meal if you savor all the courses. Hubby and I usually make reservations for 8 and finish around 10. We had dinner with friends one night and stayed for about 3 hours, but we lingered for drinks after dinner because we were having such a good time chatting. If I were on the same cruise as you I would make a bet that you could not eat a Chops or Portofino dinner then a dinner in the MDR. I am pretty sure I would win that bet. In order to win you would actually have to eat all the food not just order it, play with it and send it back. Is this your first cruise? Have you any idea how much food you will eat? Rala Posted November 4, 2009 #13 Share Posted November 4, 2009 That was just the answer to the question I was thinking about. How much time does it take. We hate to miss the shows. Thank you so much! Eating in the specialty restaurants does not always take that long (2.5 hrs.). We are usually finished in about 90 minutes or so. I think it depends if there are only two of you or if you have a larger party and how busy the particular restaurant is. We were not at all rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our dinners in Chops and Portofino.
