Emerald disembarkation

We (12 of us) will be disembarking the Emerald in FLL on Sunday, Jan. 3. I read a review that said disembarkation from this ship was a nightmare. We have flights as early as 10:45am. Will we have a problem making early flights? The cruise line told us we'd be fine as long as our flights were no earlier than 10:30. Also, how would we rent our own van in advance to take us to the airport?

You should go by the Purser's desk during the cruise and tell them you want self-debarkation. This will let you be in the first group off the ship. You will have to carry off all your luggage. You will not put any luggage out the last night. You will then hav to get a taxi to the airport.

Disembarkation was delayed when we were on the Emerald for Thanksgiving. It did not bother us, since we had a late afternoon flight and were not in any hurry to get off the ship. Our tablemates had arranged for a neighbor to pick them up--and he had to wait for them. The official word was that the delay was due to Immigration and Customs.

But even after experiencing that delay, I jumped at the change to book a nonstop flight that leaves at 11 a.m. after our next cruise. We'll be on the Crown in March.

Hello All! We were on the Emerald for Christmas and our disembarkation experience in FLL on 12.27.09 was not bad. We were assigned the

8:10 am disembarkation, we were not off much later than that.

The long line moved quite fast when our turn came up, minor delay going through customs but overall not as bad as was reported by others with previous experience.

We stayed another day in Ft Lauderdale and arrived at the Hyatt Pier 66 by 9:00 am.

Happy New Year and safe travels!!!

The disembarkation will go well, assuming you've told the line what your travel plans are. Relax and enjoy your last two days aboard, and count the days until you can be back at sea again. :)

On the Emerald, at least, they no longer ask your disembarkation plans.

The theory is since everyone will be off by ship by 9:30, it is easier to just assign disembarkation times by cabin location than to survey everybody.

Those who need or prefer a different time than assigned can request the desired time at the purser's desk.

They do send a form asking if you want the walk-off with your luggage option. That is the only option they survey for.

Forgot to mention: Those with Princess tours or transfers wll have appropriate disembarkation times.
