Anything and everything by Chubby Caerrier and the Bayou Swamp Band! Also, lots of Motown, blues, funk, 60s & 70s rock, jazz, big band, reggae, soul, zydeco - lots of stuff! No rap - and no opera.

Cheers!

Hmm, I still have a couple of weeks to work out what I'll be taking on my play list. So far, I've got pretty much every Meat Loaf song.:D (He's releasing a new CD in April 2010, so I won't have it.:() I just have to decide what else to take...maybe some Gordon Lightfoot, Kris Kristofferson, and Neil Diamond for my Mom.

Quite frankly, "I'm on a Boat" by Lonely Island.

[Disclaimer/warning: this song contains foul language; I'd recommend getting the "clean" version if you can get that from iTunes to avoid that issue]...that said, the entire song is basically about how much more fun it is to be aboard a vessel on the high seas than to be at home or at work in a colder climate, so it does the job.

I agree, great song but lots of foul language. Very catchy though! (I also like the spoof I'm on a Mac on youtube).

Styx: Come Sail Away

and anything from the 80's from Pop to hair metal, to heavy metal :D

There is not much I don't like!!!

I was going to ask essentially the same question, but found this thread first. I've added a bunch of your suggestions to my own playlist

Here's my iPod playlist submitted for your consideration by category:

Cruise oriented--Sea Cruise by Frankie Ford; Cruisin by Smokey Robinson; Where the Boat Leaves From by Zac Brown; Let's Get Away From It All by Frank Sinatra; Love Boat Theme by Jack Johnson; Sloop John B by the Beach Boys; Bang the Drum All Day by Todd Rundgren; Wave on Wave by Pat Green (okay that last one is more like a bad pun than a cruise song).

Trailer Park Sailaway Party--When My Ship Comes In by Clint Black; Hot Hot Hot by Buster Poindexter; It's Five O'Clock Somewhere by Alan Jackson; Redneck Yacht Club by Craig Morgan; Get the Party Started by Pink; All Summer Long by Kid Rock; Sunshine and Summertime by Faith Hill; When the Sun Goes Down by Kenny Chesney; Stoned, Drunk and Naked by Anders Osborne; You Do The Math by Brad Paisley

Port Calls--Mexico by James Taylor; Montego Bay by the Beach Boys; Toes by Zac Brown; Under the Sea by Samuel E. Wright; Soak Up the Sun by Cheryl Crowe; Skokiaan by Brave Combo; Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills and Nash.

All Buffett--Margaritaville; Changes In Attitudes, Changes in Latitudes; Coconut Telegraph; One Particular Harbor; A Pirate Looks at Forty; Cheeseburger in Paradise; Boat Drinks; Fins; The Weather is Here (Wish You Were Beautiful); Volcano; Bama Breeze

Romance Time--Into the Mystic by Van Morrison; Sitting in Limbo by Jimmy Cliff; Cruisin by Smokey Robinson (again); the entire Bossa n' Stones album (trust me on this one); Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye; Pressure Drop by Toots and the Maytals; These Are Days by 10,000 Maniacs; Rock Me Gently by Andy Kim; Can't Get Enough of Your Love by Barry White; One Love/People Get Ready by Bob Marley; Quelqu'un M'Dit by Carla Bruni (the First Lady of France, and trust me on this one too)

You're welcome!

You all have me downloading like mad! I think I will suprise DH with his own player and put a lot of these songs on it for him. He is an XM man, but I really think he needs a player for the ship. Mine stays glued to my ears while I am at work, and its XM in the car.

  • 11 months later...

Anything by Elton John, a little Chris Rea (Down on the Beach, Fool, Road to Hell) and a bunch of Frankie Ruiz Latin Salsa songs. My family thinks I'm nuts listening to Latin Jazz but there's something about it that is upbeat and makes you think of the sun and forget the crappy weather.
