Curious about the casino...

Just wondering --- has anyone ever won (or saw someone win) anything noteworthy in the casino???? On our recent Serenade cruise, I did the free pulls using the coupon in the C&A book and didn't ever land on anything despite 6 pulls (mine and my husbands). Also did the match play, but as to be expected, the house won!!!!

In 2005 I won $2500 on the Radiance (quarter slots - Dick Clark New Years)

In 2007 I won $750 on the Mariner (nickel slots - Jackpot Party)

In 2009 I won $1100 on the Freedom (penny slots - Life of Luxury)

What kind of person knowingly chooses to play the game with the worst odds in the Casino?

You can answer that one.

You have already admitted that you expected the house to win - and it did.

Slot machines have - by far - the worst odds that you will win.

Even better, nearly every dollar won on the slots goes straight back into the machines.

Cruise lines absolutely love slots players. These gullible people keep ticket prices down for the rest of the cruisers.

Having said that, my ship recently offered a specal "Win a new car" promotion on the slot machines in our casino.

We gave away a new BMW three times every month, for three months.

Who really paid for those 9 new cars?

All the slots players, of course.

I've never won anything...slots are the worst odds.....but I played BJ and couldn't even push with a 20....the dealers were the luckiest I've ever seen.

If you're going to "play" the slots, 6 pulls is a guaranteed loser! You have to play alot more than that!

Yes...some folks win...but consider any money you spend in a casino to be "entertainment dollars"...plan to lose it...and if you do win something, it's a bonus!

I have run accross many people on my cruises who tell me how much they win on the slots. My only problem is, I am not sure if they are telling me their gross winnings or net winnings: another words after they put everything into the machine. It sounds good but in most cases there is very little profit. The best thing about slots is that you can have a good time for a long time for not much of an investment. My choice is the tables where I find the dealers always willing to help you learn the game. Much better odds.

I play 25 cent Video Poker and have won the Progressive Jackpot on 3 of our last 4 cruises (January Liberty $1310; April Navigator $1550. and January 2009 Navigator $1557. :)

My DH and I have a daily allowance and any winnings come home; they do not carry over to the next day.

Awesome! I should have clarified in my original post that I did gamble more than the freebies and I did the table games as well, but I've never been able to win an amount I consider noteworthy! Good for you!

One cruise a couple of years ago, there was a golf video game right out side the casino. It paid out in little rubber superballs (). Anyway hubby enjoyed playing it and one day he was waiting for someone else to finish playing it so he put $5.00 in the nickle slot right inside the door and played while he was waiting. I remember the game was Rainbowland. Anyway by the time the person on the golf game was done Randy had won over $850:eek:

This isn't much compared to most winners, but for me was big time! I was on the Voyager a couple of weeks ago and won $230 on a nickel machine. The next day I was walking through and that same machine was calling me back--I sat down and won another $110 within a couple of minutes! I did stop after that and brought all of my winnings home with me. Also won two of those fine key chains with my coupons--woohoo!! :)

I've won 6 or 7 keychains on the free slot pulls. Have no idea what to do with them, maybe save them for future grandkids?

I consistently win playing roulette, but don't place big enough bets to strike a big win, over the course of an hour or so I'll turn my $50 into $200, did so twice last week on Adventure, did so twice on Navigator this summer. Mr Chew won one of the poker tournaments on a cruise a few years ago, when you won money and not a free cruise. It was enough to cover our final seapass bill!

And I don't care what anybody says, I think the slots on the cruise ships are a lot "tighter" than the slots in Vegas or Atlantic City. Just my opinion ... I love playing slots in Vegas & AC, can usually spend hours entertaining myself on very little money. But I don't bother with the slots on the ships, no entertainment value for me there!

I can ony speak for myself by telling you I am a "small time" gambler. I do not sit at the machine pumping it with cash  I guess I have been lucky - I am able to rack up credits which keeps me playing and not having to "inject" the machine with more of MY money. On those credits I have been able to win a Jackpot :D I would estimate I spent about $20 or $40 to win those jackpots listed at the beginning of this thread. I guess I have been LUCKY! :)

husband won a T-shirt AND a rice RCI logoed polo shirt with his free spin to wins. 2 nice prizes on 3 pulls. He pulled the handle instead of just pushing the button to spin. I only win key chains pushing the button.

BTW - you can use keychains as Christmas ornaments alongside your ship ornament!

We are not big gamblers (too cheap!) and usually do not spend/lose more than $50.00 a cruise. A few years ago on the Jewell, I had a few tokens left and dropped them into a slot machine just to get rid of them, won $850. My one time only big win, unless you count the RC polo shirt I won on the free pull machine!

Yup, we're platinum so we only had two free pull coupons in each book.

We also had the match play coupons ... Mr Chew almost always loses with his and I almost always win!! I had 3 of them this cruise and won all three. Always on roulette, always on black.

On our recent trip on the Grandeur, my DW and I were playing quarter slots, and having no luck. I deceided to walk just behind her and play the dollar machines. After the second pull for my $20, i won $1200.. The attendant came over to congratulate me and said wait right here(not that I was going to move). When a little old man came up to me and said, "I put $500 into that machine earlier in the evening" I think he wanted me to pay him back...I politely told him to get lost. At the same time a young lady came by with 12 $100 bills..and placed them in my hand....First time in 15 cruises that I won anything

I won (net) $360 on nickel slots on Majesty. I'm the worst gambler in the world. Once I win "big", I stop, and I keep track of every cent I spend and win. :o I'm not cheap--I just like order! I also won a keychain on the free pull. I too use it as a christmas tree ornament.

BF plays BJ. He's had mixed luck on our cruises. On Liberty, he was playing with a kid who had just signed a major league baseball contract. He was 19 and literally just throwing away his money. BF did well on that one. He lost on Majesty. He said the people he played with had no clue what they were doing. I don't know how to play BJ so I dont know how that affects anything.

This last summer on a Princess cruise I was sitting next to a woman that won a BMW the night before on the slot machine I was sitting at. She and her husband decided against the car and took the $25,000.00 instead!:) That would never happen to me!:(

I guess I am lucky then. In 2000 I sailed on the Monarch. The ship was at sea and I was meeting my mom somewhere on the ship. I decided to take a detour upon passing the casino. I went inside and played $1 on the slots. I then won about $250. Cashed out and din't play it back. In 2007 I was on the Sovereign and cashed in the coupons from the C&A booklet. The cashier gave me $4. I played the slots again. $2.50 into my $4 I then won over $300. I cashed out and went along my way. This wasn't the casino, but the next year I decided to play Bingo instead. I won half of $500 prize. Guess I am not the norm because anytime I play I win
