Hotel Recommendation Please

We have gotten some great deals with Priceline. Check out the San Juan Ports of Call board, and there is a sticky at the top that will give you great info on how to do it and what the current winning bids are.

There are a LOT of nice hotels close to the port in Condado and Old San Juan. They aren't cheap, though.

Good luck!

We have stayed at the Marriot Stellaris and have had friends stay at the Embassy Suites. Both are nice as long as you keep in mind that San Juan hotels are very expensive.

Here is a map that shows hotel locations near the pier area. If you scroll your cursor across names, the links to the hotels will come up.

We love the Marriott Stellaris, and were lucky enough to get it 2 times through Priceline. This time we got the Sheraton OSJ, which is right at the pier where most ships dock for the day. I have some pictures of it in my signature link.

Cruisin' R.N. - It appears that you are looking at the Serenade, which sails from the pier across the harbor and NOT from downtown Old San Juan. There are not any hotels right by that pier. You should look for a hotel that suits your plans for your day in San Juan - probably either in OSJ itself or out in the Condado area, which is near the airport. Both locations are a quick cab ride to the port for about $20 - cab fares are fixed in San Juan.

Sheffie's suggestion to look at the Caribbean Ports of Call forum for San Juan is excellent - there are endless discussions about hotels and how to bid on Priceline. However, if you are more than 2 people, you will have to look at Hotwire instead to be assured of a room that will accommodate 2+ people. Folks have gotten great deals on resort properties.

We just booked the Radisson in Condado area. Has anyone stayed there before? I got a great deal on Expedia for $134.00 for next January. Any comments good or bad would be appreciated.

Steve

We stayed there in November and loved it. The hotel has recently been remodeled. The rooms were very nice and we got afternoon snacks and breakfast included in the room rate. There are some nice eating places within walking distance and a Walgreen's as well. It was a block to the beach also. No problem getting taxi service to the port.

We stayed for a week over this past Chrismtas at the El San Juan Towers in Isla Verde. We are going to stay there again prior to our cruise at the end of May. It is in great location - we were at the hotel within 30 minutes after landing at San Juan International Airport. The hotel also features free breakfast buffet, great pool, located on Isla Verde Beach, and free internet access.

We are looking into the Radisson San Juan/Condado.

Did you take a taxi from the airport to the hotel' date=' as well? [/b']

Do you remember how far from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the port, approximately?

Thanks...

We used a taxi from airport to hotel and hotel to port. Don't remember exactly how far it was to both locations but it only took a very short time to get there. I believe the cost was $15/18 dollars. Cabs were lined up in front of the hotel so getting one to the port was easy enough and there were six of us. We found the hotel to be very nice and quiet and has recently been remodeled. The bar downstairs had live entertainment and there was a fair sized casino. As I said before there were several restaurants and shops near the hotel. We called them direct and were pleased with our deal. Don't know about the beach as it was pouring rain when we were there. There was a rooftop pool at the hotel. Enjoy your cruise!

Forget to mention that we sailed from the Pan American Port-not the other port....

My dw and I are leanig to the Caribe Hilton for our next cruise. I have found multiple post which disagree on some basic issues. If someone who has stayed here before could answer the items below it would be appreciated.

1- do you need a taxi to get nice dinner other than at Morton's?

2- how far away is Old SJ, is it walkable or do you need a taxi.

Thanks.

1. for restaurants outside the hotel you have to walk to Condado (there is only a sandwich place next to the hotel), cross the bridge Dos Hermanos and then you will see the Condado Plaza Hotel at the begining of the avenue, there are many many restaurants in this area. it is about a short 15 or 20 minute walk to get to Condado Plaza

2. it is a long walk from the hotel to the historic district, if you are in shape you can do it, if you are not then it is a hassle (also add the high humidity and hot caribbean sun to the picture). i would take a bus or taxi instead.

see the map, it will give you a good idea were it is located. Caribe Hilton is located on top of the little square were it says Fuerte San Geronimo, the historic district starts on the green area next to were you read 'old' san juan and the condado area were it says Avenida Ashford
