What do you do if it rains?

Rain has no bearing on the captain bypassing the port... it is the sea conditions.... If it is safe to park that ship(dock/anchor and tender passengers to the island), thats where the ship will go, RAIN -or SHINE !

When I said if it is really bad, I was refering to hurricane type bad, not just bad rain.

At the places I've been in the Caribbean, rain tends to be later in the afternoon if it rains at all. A lot of times you can be watching massive clouds roll in, but the beach is dry while it is raining a bit inland. Caribbean weather is sketchy, but unless there is a tropical storm, the rain almost never sticks around for very long.

We only hit bad weather once on our way back a couple years ago. High winds, pouring rain and all the fun stuff. They shut down the lido for a while until we sailed out of it. Not a big deal. No problems in port, just quick showers if at all.

I spent 2 days docked in St. George's Bermuda in some of the most torrential rain I'd ever seen. I'm not sure how we made it through the Town Cut, the wind was so bad. Anyway, we ran around town in the rain for a while (ponchos are your friend) and took advantage of what breaks we had. I also drank. A lot. Read a lot. Watched some movies. Played cards. Kicked everyone in my party's butt in Scrabble without resorting to making up words. One of the sucky things about docking overnight is that depending on local laws, they can't open the casino.

I guess if it's cold and rainy I'd book some spa stuff. Or simply take a book to our balcony and read for awhile.

Why would you want to sit out in the cold and rain to read your book? You'd stay drier and warmer reading inside, perhaps in one of the lounges. We did a lot of that the day our ship passed near Hurricane Katrina a few years back.

I have a poncho PERMANENTLY packed in an outside pocket of my luggage (I live in So Cal :D). I haven't taken that poncho out in probably the last 5 cruises. Rain in the Caribbean is usually short-lived, refreshing, and fascinating to Southern Californians.:)

I would try to not worry about it. Our last Caribbean cruise showed rain every day in all ports. It rained once for about 2 minutes.

Another time it rained for much of the day in St Thomas and it was among the best snorkeling experiences we've had. The rain just massaged your back.

Here is an old joke that should give you a good idea what you can do when it rains.

Two old neighbor ladies are in their back yards talking over the fence.

One says "Sophie , how do you do it?, Whats your secret? All the other women in the neighborhood do their wash, hng the clothes on the line and them IT RAINS. The clothes never dry. The wind blows them off the line . You have to do them all over. But YOU, everytime you hang the wash out it's sunny and beautiful, and the clothes dry perfectly. Whats your secret ?"

Sophie says "Well i'll tell ya, before I do my laundry in teh morning I go in the bedroom and pull the covers off my husband Murray. If his "You know what" is hanging over his right leg that means it's gonna rain. I don't do the laundry. If it's hanging over his left leg, that means the sun will be out. It's OK to do the laundry.

The neighbor is puzzled . She asks "But Sophie , what if it is standing straight up the middle?"

Sophie says "Who wants to do laundry on such a beautiful day ?"
