My Conquest Review- 8/1 - 8/8

Mommy of 1- I, too, love your review and pictures. You are very talented in making your readers feel a sense of urgency to read your next part of the review.

Now, something I just couldn't let go without mentioning. DD & DSIL both are employed by Pepsico, so I immediately caught the picture of Pepsi, with our Texas colloquization (sp?) of "getting a Coke," or let's meet for coffee (translation: it might be Coke, coffee, whatever).

This is a fun thread; thank you for a very neat, suspenseful review. We are ready for your next installment. :)

Great review and loving your pics. I'll be back on her for the 6th time in just 46 days.

That pic looking into the casino is pretty much my view the whole week too.........I love sitting there just reading, people watching, gambling........can't wait can't wait can't wait

Today is a full day at sea. The dedicated guy that my DH is got up at 6:30a to run around the track. I wish I had that willpower. My DS and I slept in until about 9 and finally got out of bed to get some breakfast around 10am. That’s the thing I love about vacation. ..being able to sleep late and not feeling guilty that you have other things you should be doing.

We enjoyed some of the activities on board like the scavenger hunt. Another family of 3 joined us and we ran around the ship and took pictures of the items on the list. We knew we didn’t have a chance to win, but it was still fun. Here’s a few of the items we needed…

This guy was a great sport to let us take a picture of his tacky outfit. It wasn’t that bad, but it was the best we could find. Not sure who the guy is, but THANK YOU!

DS and I hung out in the Lido until time to get ready for dinner. DH relaxed in our stateroom with a book and took a little nap. There’s something about the rocking of the ship that makes us all sleepy.

Tonight was our first Elegant Night. We were lucky enough to be seated in Ketut’s section again. They remembered our names and the fact that we all liked iced tea instead of water. I had the Prime Rib which was really good, although I would have loved some more of the au jus. DH had the Lobster Tail and Jumbo Black Tiger Shrimps. He’s normally not a fan of seafood, but he decided to try new things this time. He loved the shrimp, but thought the lobster was just ok. DS had pizza again, but he had the strawberry bisque for a started. He loved it and said it tasted like a strawberry milk shake.

I only took 1 picture of food tonight.. my dessert. It looked better than it tasted, but it was still really good. I forgot what it was called, but it had baked apples and a caramel sauce.

We opted to skip the show “Voila Paris” tonight. As I mentioned before, I’m not a big fan of the Carnival shows, so DS went to Camp Carnival. Tonight was “Curfew Extended Party” and he stayed until 12p. It’s $6 per hr after 10p. We really didn’t need him to stay there, so each night we left it up to him if he wanted to go. While DS was in Camp Carnival, DH and I watched “It’s Complicated” from the big screen on the Lido deck. You can buy popcorn from the bar (I think it was $1). I think the popcorn needed some more seasoning, but hey, if you’re the type that needs popcorn with a movie, this will do. It was a beautiful night out..my only wish was I had pulled my hair in a ponytail. It was blowing all over the place. If I had a blanket I could have fallen asleep out there.

After the movie we called it an early night and went to our stateroom until 12p when we picked up DS.. actually DH picked him up, I was already in my pj’s reading my book (which by the way was really good… for those who love “Chick Lit”, I read “Queen of Babble” by Meg Cabot. I read the whole book in 5 days which is a record for me. I just couldn’t put it down).

Tomorrow is another full day at sea…hopefully I’ll remember everything we did J

Great review so far! You know you're from Texas when you call everything a "Coke." LOL.

LOL, I still say "Coke" for everything. We don't drink Coke, diet or otherwise and as a diehard Diet Dr. Pepper fan I still said to my husband on our cruise "Don't forget our Cokes!"

In Texas, any good waitress knows if you ask for a Coke, she'll ask you which kind. :D

Yep, I have to jump on the bandwagon, all sodas are called Cokes. Not pop, not soft drink or anything thing else. :D

Great review, pics and details! Thanks so much! We will be going on our 2nd cruise in October, first time on Conquest but we are really looking forward to it, and its always neat to read all these reviews about what other people thought about things.

Today was our 2nd day at sea.

Once again, my dedicated DH got up at 6:30am to walk around the track except this time my DS joined him. I think my DS only ran around the track twice, but hey, at least he was trying to work off all that pizza. I of course slept in again and we all headed to breakfast around 10am.

Today we just hung out again doing various activities. We checked out Uno from the library and played in the atrium while trivia games were being played.

2pm was the Marriage Show. This is always good for a laugh. I have a feeling these people were pre-selected and coached a little, but please don’t ruin it for me. It still fun to see each time. I forgot to mention that Chris Jefferson was our cruise director. He hosted the show. I must add, he is a hottie. Shh…don’t tell my DH that I said that. He thinks I’m only attracted to him J

We had a late lunch so we didn’t head to dinner until about 7:15p. This is the first time we were told there was no table available, so we were handed a pager. You can go to any of the public areas with the pager, but you can’t use it in your stateroom. 45 minutes later and about the time I was going to give up eating in the dining room, our pager finally buzzed. We were seated in a different section than the previous nights. We were all poured water and weren’t even asked if we wanted tea or water (which you’ll remember we all prefer iced tea for dinner). Service was very slow. The wait staff wasn’t as friendly as our previous section.

DS had Prosciutto Ruffles for a starter. He obviously didn’t know what prosciutto was and the look on his face when he got it was hilarious. I should have taken a picture. He took a piece of meat and started chewing. He was trying to be so polite, but he said it was awful. He thought maybe if it was cooked it would have been better…LOL. I had the Jerked Pork Loin which was really good although I wish it would have been spicier. DH had the sushi and Short Ribs. He's not a big fan of sushi but wanted to try something new. He said the ribs were delicious. DS branched out from the kids menu and had the grilled chicken breast. I warned him it was just plain grilled chicken, but he didn’t listen. Again, the look on his face when he got it was soo funny. I asked for ranch dressing for him to dip, but it was still just dry chicken. Oh well, there’s always the 24 hours pizza. The service was so slow that we skipped dessert (and I LOVE my dessert). We ended up going to the Lido later and grab some dessert there.

Here's some pictures from dinner...

DS went to Camp Carnival after dinner. He was able to check himself in and out, so he just made sure to leave at 9:45p before the after hours fees started. He didn’t really spend that much time in Camp Carnival the whole cruise. He was in the 9-11 age group, but he really preferred the activities that the 12-14 age group were doing. He said he didn’t like Camp Carnival much because if you didn’t want to do that activity that is scheduled, there’s nothing else to do. So, he spent most of the time with us. I hate to say I was kind of disappointed because DH and I were looking for a little bit of alone time, but oh well, it IS a family vacation after all.

The “Punchliner Comedy Club” is now on the Conquest. There are several different times in the evening and there are both family friendly and adult comedy options. We went to the 9:45p show which was the adult only version. Carl Faulkenberry was the comedian. He was ok. If I had gone to an actual comedy club and paid to see him I would have been disappointed, but it was still a fun time.

I didn’t realize it then, but we missed the deck party. There was a buffet after the deck party, but we were still full from dinner, so after the show we called it a night and headed to bed.

Tomorrow is Jamaica…

Here's some pictures from the day...
