The Dawn Of My Addiction: Back To Bermuda 08/08/10

Cubechick, no Bermuda? What about a reunion to Bermuda next summer with Jimswims and others?

As tempting as it is, we've got the PofAm booked along with the Star and a 15-day PC cruise next year. I won't have enough vacation days left to squeeze in Bermuda. :( Maybe we'll meet again in 2012!

Coka. Thanks for your kind words and the ady. I don't think I will need support, but will be bringing the laptop, and will post a few times on my status, and our trip. Now, we need to get the Dawn repaired.

Cubechick, you will be in serious Bermuda withdrawal!!! But with what you have planned, you'll be plenty busy and having a great time! Wish you were coming with us in January again!

Coka, congrats on beating down Virginia! I am SOOO proud of you -- and know how difficult it can be! Quit about 6 months before my Dad died, and felt great (did welbutrin) but that stress got me going again, then mom died... not ready to quit again yet...:( Too much stress in my life right now...

Thanks for another wonderful review. I take the train from NJ to NYC and back and I usually have my kindle to keep me occupied during the ride. For the past couple of days, I have used my blackberry to read your review in installments. It's really a great read, you have to do a book about cruising experiences in your free time :-) and I am quite sure that there is a market for it.

Coka, Love reading your reviews. I always feel like I am on the ship enjoying every moment. Can't wait to be on the Dawn again. We're just about 138 days to go...

Awesome you have been able to give up Virginia. Just continue a day at a time. It does get easier as time goes on. It has been 20 years for me although it is only today..

(remember what happens at the Martini Clinic - says at the Martini Clinic - how does one really measure a "taste" or a "sip")

Here is a list of the Martini Drinks - served in 2.5 oz plastic glasses....and with all the Martini glass towers that were being built you can understand why they use plastic.

The 1st clinic on Tuesday:

1. Classic Martini

2. Cosmopolitan

3. Apple Martini

4. Le French Martini

5. Chocolate Martini

6. Melon Martini

7. Espresso Martini

The 2nd Clinic on Saturday:

1. Classic Martini

2. Roxy Treat

3. Melon Martini

4. Chocolate Raspberry Martini

5. Banana Banshee

6. Beach Martini

7. Dirty Martini

8. Espresso Martini

My son and I had purchased a little gift for the bartenders while we were docked in Bermuda, we took it to them on Saturday during the Martini Clinic. Don't really know if this was a good thing or not.....but "Bong" gave me a couple of the martini's that I didn't try during the 1st clinic. What a good treat they were.

.....................................................................................................

For those of you who do decide to rent/ride bikes in Bermuda, please be careful as our bus got really close to Coka as we passed her and others that were alone the road.

It was so nice to meet you and your son--we had a great time at the first martini clinic. I wish we had made it to the second because I would have liked to try those new ones.

After having that chocolate martini, I asked for one that night at Gatsby's and Mango, our favorite bartender, had one made that was more like a mudslide. It was so good! We ended every night there and every night I had one of those martinis. Okay, at least one, some nights there were more--they are dangerous because they taste so good.

Coka, so glad to meet you on this cruise. When you first joined our roll call, I yelled out to my husband, "Oh my gosh, COKA will be on our cruise!"

Husband: "..."

Me: "She's a cruise critic celebrity!"

Husband: "..."

By the end of the cruise, he would come back to the cabin from being out and about and say, "I saw Coka!" all star-struck.

I am so enjoying your trip report and reliving our vacation. Our first time on ncl and we really fell in love with the Dawn.

We later on danced some of it off to Rock Night with Next Stage. Standing room only in Dazzles last April, this was now held in Spinnaker’s. Originally billed as an outdoor evening pool deck show, it would have been marvelous had it not been raining.

We loved this band--I wish we would have asked where they went that night--we went up to see them and it was cancelled and didn't think to ask if they would be somewhere else.

We also could not miss Fire and Ice. My husband was in love with Rosie. He thinks he got a shout-out from her when she was performing in the Atrium. She did shout out to the "people in the back" and we were "people in the back", but so were a lot of other people. I just say, "Oh, for SURE she was shouting out to you." Why burst his bubble?

Ohhhh!---On a side note, do you want to know where your teenager is while you are in the casino? They are making out in the stairwells with their newfound cruise friends!

I can confirm that this is indeed true. My son is 17 and has a bunch of new facebook friends who have "tagged" him in pictures of this cruise. If you click on one of the pictures you can scroll through them all, which I did because I was curious what the kid was doing the entire time we never saw him--lots of pictures of kids hanging out in stairwells.

Katie - it was nice meeting you as well and glad to hear you found a favorite bar and bartender.

I'm also glad that you enjoyed the Dawn - as you cruise more and more you'll find yourself referring back to your time on the Dawn.

Hahaha Sparks, I am in your neighborhood right now as I type while mom sitting this weekend. Just saw the forecast and summer will continue all next week. Snow after that one. Great to see construction season finished on the ride up! LOL

Cubechick, I am sure after your review/pictures of Panama Canal ALL of us will not be able to resist going any longer. I probably will not be able to wait for retirement for one of those! What a dream and I look forward to your trip report. I look forward to any of your trip reports!

BikerAl, Best wishes for a fantastic cruise on the Dawn!

Azuree, I only forgot to write about the Underberg!!! OH my my! Yes, I sure ordered an Underberg for dessert after the first Le Bistro dinner.

Welove2cuise232, I so understand very much. I am going to take a chance anyways and just let you know to check out www dot quitnet dot com I almost logged on to the sight the first day at sea but figured the price to log on and seek out assistance would equal the cost of a carton. Fortunately, the angels looked out for me and I did not need to.

Sharke, Biker@sea, misskittykat, and NJLVW, that makes me feel good too.

Cruitenn, I only wrote 80% of what we did. I think Katie's hubby caught us doing the other 10%. I know, it only adds up to 90!

Katie, I am with hubby's response, "..." as well. I think a sarcastic acronym could also take place of the dot dot dot? Too funny and quite true in reality!

I hope those at the cruisecritic gathering are okay now after saying, "what is she going to write about us." If I ever did that, nobody would cruise with me and nobody would talk to me. Ocean, I hope you can vouch for that!

You are so right about cubechick and her reviews! This is how we booked Alaska. The Panama Canal is on my MUST do list along with several Europe cruises, South America, and a world cruise. The only fortunate thing about this one is that I cannot do a Panama Canal cruise until I retire or get a new job so I will not be doing this in 2012 (that I know of;)).

coka, I have been on 2 cruises with you (and hopefully a third in the near future) and I still talk to you, LOL!!!!:D

Thanks Dr. Jimswims for talking to me. LOL. I remember reading Radio's review of Bermuda years ago and I booked soon thereafter. The funny part...never been to Horseshoe Bay yet after three visits to Bermuda. My fear is that I will read Cubechick's future review on Panama Canal and then not care that I really should not take 10 days off in a row from work!

hahaha! We actually did not make it to Horseshoe Bay until our 4th and 5th Bermuda cruises so you are on schedule:D! There are several more on my beach list that I have to find for 2011. Maybe a scavenger hunt will make it more interesting.

LOL We didn't get to Horseshoe bay until our 11th cruise to Bermuda! When on the Majesty we stayed at that end of the island, going to St. Catherine's just about every time we were there! Finally got to HB last year on the Spirit!

Hi Coka, thanks for your great review, I really enjoyed it.

My family and I are taking our first NCL cruise on the Dawn this Oct. 31st. We were wondering how good the Calypso Band Joy is, and how often they play? Also, any chance you know if they'll be there through October?

Thanks again...

Coka, Thank you for the wonderful post on Bermuda. We are looking to 2011 for our next visit. I am always thinking of Bermuda. It holds a very special place in my heart. We should be on the Dawn and I know she's your favorite. We have been there too many times to count . It is my favorite place to cruise. Ask Jimswims. I am his mother.

Hi Mom! You finally make your first post. Good job.

I still have a long way to go to catch up to you in number of cruises and trips to Bermuda. I am working on it.

Hi Staci,

The band Joy is very good! I heard them a few times as I walked through the pool area. I do not know if they are there on your sailing. If not, there will be another Calypso type band in their place. Below are some of the times they were scheduled to play at the pool area:

Sunday: 1-3pm and 4-6:30pm Sailaway party

Monday: 11am-1pm, 3:30-5:30

Tuesday: 11am-1pm, 3-5pm (the celebrity guest DJ played from 1-3pm)

Wednesday: Not scheduled in the freestyle daily

Thursday: 4-5pm, 7:30-9:30pm

Friday: 3-6pm

Saturday: 11am-1pm, 3-5pm (DJ played from 1-3)

Have a great family cruise on the Dawn. A Halloween cruise sounds like fun!

Hi Pink Sand Judy! I am honored to have your first post in this thread. Your son is a living angel and I am sure you are very proud of him. I hope I get to meet you next year or sooner. Do we need to tell him to go Dawn instead of Gem? He already started a roll call for Gem!
