jerseygirl3 Posted June 14, 2004 #26 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Unless there was more than one person who died on that sailing, it wasn't a man, it was a woman. I know, because it was my stepson's Aunt. She was only 60 years old. It was very unexpected. They were already on their way back to Bayonne, with no port stops left, so her sister and her husband stayed on the ship with the body until they arrived back in New Jersey. caribbeanqueen3@comcast.net

cruiserforlife Posted June 14, 2004 #31 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Death at sea is more common than one might think, hence the reason for the morgue. These are just things you don't hear about and rightfully so. As posters have already commented,"If you gotta go,what better way then while on vacation on a cruise"? As a wise person once said: "Despite the ongoing efforts of leading scientists, and billions and billions of dollars spent, the worldwide death rate remains at 100%". "a bad day at sea is better than a great day at work and a lousy day at sea is still pretty damn good!"

iamlisad Posted June 15, 2004 #35 Share Posted June 15, 2004 We weren't on a cruise, but we were on a family vacation in Florida two years ago when my 69 year old father went to sleep and never woke up. He had a heart arrhythmia, but certainly wasn't expected to die when he did. It was very hard for all of us, but he was in his favorite place, with his favorite people, doing his favorite things and he didn't suffer for a moment to the best of our knowledge. I'd like to go the same way I think. Anyway, about a month after his death, his cardiologist called me to offer his sympathy. He told me that he can't believe the number of his patients who die while on vacations. His theory was that stress, be it good or bad stress, is hard on an already weakened heart -- and even while we have the times of our lives on vacation, it's a stress. Interesting.... cujosmom Posted June 15, 2004 #41 Share Posted June 15, 2004 There were also four people that died on our 14 night Panama Canal Cruise in December on Celebrity's Infinity. We missed our port of call in Costa Rica because we had to turn back to Huatulco to off-load a very sick passenger who died before getting to a hospital. I think the average age of the passengers on that cruise was 65. Until we set sail to Alaska on the Serenade of The Seas

ssantow Posted June 15, 2004 #43 Share Posted June 15, 2004 We have been cruising many years and have know of many medical emergencies and some deaths while on a cruise, but the most personaly devistating event for us was on a 14 day cruise of Australia when the singer/piano player in the piano lounge died of a massive heart attack. It was more than half way through the cruise and we had spent a portion of each evening in that lounge enjoying one of the best entertainers we had seen on a ship. It happend during the second seating dinner outside the dining room. Being one of the "regulars" we had chatted with David many times and he came to know our group well. That evening we went to the same lounge and it was dark with no show scheduled and a single candle burning on top of the piano. A moving memorial service was held in the main lounge a day or two later and the place was packed. NJGRANNY Posted June 15, 2004 #45 Share Posted June 15, 2004 Amaddog10 Of course you were kidding about the tip, but on our first cruise (to Alaska - many years ago), a man at the table next to us died while on the cruise. The family who was with him left a tip envelope for the waiters. It got around that they had did this because everyone was so amazed that they would think of it at such a time. Jan from New Jersey Celebrity - Caribbean - Twice RCCL - Alaska, Caribbean, Canada Holland America - Panama Canal and South America Future: Celebrity - Back to back Caribbean - Oct. 2004 Princess - Back to back Caribbean - Feb. 2005
