Hello all!

We are looking for a hotel that has a gaming casino or a hotel very close to a gaming casino in the Fort Lauderdale / Miami area.

We will be arriving in FLL around 8pm and will be renting a car. We will be boarding the Liberty of the Seas at the Port of Miami the next morning. We were interested in doing a little pre-cruise gambling....Any ideas?

Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood/Ft. Lauderdale. Very nice hotel, best casino is South Florida and a dozen restaurants.

Hi,

We did the same thing last year--drove from Miami to Hard Rock Casino,1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, FL. We stayed at the Miami Airport area(LaQuinta) drove up to the casino. Mapquest said 29 minutes and 24.39 miles all good highways. We plan on doing the same thing 1/15/2011. After that going to a BIG flea market(big time spenders from Pennsylvania !!) :D

The BIG flea market is the Swap Shop - on Sunrise Blvd between the Turnpike and I-95. Lock your car, and don't leave anything valuable visible. The flea market crowd can be....interesting, but it's not unsafe. As Dave Berry likes to joke, your stereo may get stolen, but you have a very good chance of finding an identical one being sold for cheap. It might even have the same scratches or missing buttons as your old one.

There's also the festival flea market up on Sample Rd (right at the Turnpike), but that's 10-12 miles further north, and much smaller. The shops tend to target the older crowd, IMO.

About 20 yrs ago I used to hear stories about people's cars being stolen while they shopped at the Swap Shop. I'm not sure how that is going these days because I don't know anyone who shops there anymore. Hopefully the security is better. I've never heard of other crimes there though.

I second the Hard Rock Cafe! Was there 2 nights ago & had great fun. Make sure you sign up for their players club card. My friend and I did this. After you get 25 points on your card they have special machines against the wall you swipe your cards in. Then you go play a slot machine & check your balance, we each had 50.00 in free play :D.

You could also stay near the Gulfstream Park Casino. They do not have a hotel on premises, but there is an abundance of restaurants and shops. If you wish to be near this casino, I would recommend the Westin Diplomat Hotel on the beach in Hallandale Beach. It is a beautiful property that is a hop, skip, and a jump from Gulfstream Park. Gulfstream and the Diplomat are also (roughly) halfway between FLL and the Port of Miami. I think there is also a Crowne Plaza Hotel across the street from the Diplomat.
