Lunch in the dining room on embarkation day?

Is there a dining room open for lunch on embarkation day on NCL (Dawn) for us "ordinary" passengers (not suite :)) or are you relegated to the buffet? We have done this on Carnival before and it is much easier to do than navigate the buffet with carry on luggage and three kids. :D

The crew will herd you to the buffet. However, there will be one main dining room open, and you are free to go there once you board.

 

Also, if you are in a Penthouse Suite or above, Cagneys will be open. Usually a butler or the concierge will escort you there upon boarding, before going to your suite.

Yes, absolutely. One of the main dining rooms (usually the Venetian) will be open for a nice, leisurely sit-down lunch on embarkation day. Enjoy!

We do this every cruise since we figured it out. You are correct.......so much easier with luggage and kids and not even crowded!!!!! There willl be 1 dining room open, but you will be directed to the buffet. Not sure why they do that as it is crazy up there! Have a great cruise!!!

Another suggestion to make it easier for you. Ask about a place to drop off your carry on luggage until the rooms are ready. Most ships have a place where you can leave it. They won't take the kids, though !!:D

I haven't been on the Pearl (yet) but I'm guessing that the Summer Palace main dining room is open for lunch on embarkation day.

Lunch is over by 2pm I believe, so only have experienced eating lunch on the first day twice and it was way better experience than the buffet or by the pool. ;)

MDR on the Pearl is open until 2 pm. It is much nicer to eat in the MDR on embarkation day; very relaxed.

I forgot about the MDR closing at 2 pm. You do have to get there a little early to get to use this option. We are over achievers and we board early. Just to excited to get on and explore!!!!! Have fun!

Summer Palace is open 12-2pm.. it's a bit tricky to get back to it given that they have all the cabin corridors closed, but well worth it vs. the buffet

Yes, usually the Grand Pacific is open.

 

FWIW, you should check the Freestyle daily to see which dining room is open and not assume it's one or the other. I've been on cruises where the smaller of the two MDRs was open, not the larger one, and at least once both MDRs were open for lunch.
