OK. Lanyard. I know it may be convenient

I use lanyards, fanny packs, small over the shoulder/chest to the waist purses...whatever my attire requires.

ditto here. Part of my precruise research and calm-the-waiting jitters is to find the most suitable purse, suitcase, whatever I need for the cruise preferably with a lot of storage. I too will be on vacation and whatever works for me is it. I am absolutely not concerned about what others think. Sail on!

How about some websites where a newbie could look for these beautiful beaded lanyards?

How big is the S&S card - same as a credit card?

Yes, it is the size of a CC. They will punch a hole through the upper corner, so that you can thread a connecting circle through it (so make sure if you buy a lanyard, it either already has a largish (3mm) connecting ring, or you can buy one at any craft store, or place that sells jewerly-making stuff.

Etsy is a site upon which different crafters sell their wares. I've bought several of mine from Etsy dealers. Here are some examples, but if you go to Etsy.com, and put in "beaded lanyard", you'll get many hits:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/70384566/turquoise-and-white-lanyard?ref=sr_gallery_34&ga_ref=auto&ga_search_query=beaded+badge+lanyard&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade

http://www.etsy.com/listing/60346016/sterling-silver-id-badge-necklace-extra?ref=sr_gallery_39&ga_ref=auto&ga_search_query=beaded+badge+lanyard&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade

http://www.etsy.com/listing/68806469/foiled-gold-glass-id-lanyardbadge-holder?ref=sr_gallery_22&ga_search_query=beaded+badge+lanyard&ga_page=3&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade

Bonanza is a similar site, with crafters selling their wares. Here is a couple of selections from it:

http://www.bonanza.com/booths/curlynetto/items/Antique_Pearl_Glass_Beaded_Lanyard_ID_Badge_Holder

Finally, I'm made a couple of purchases from BooJee Beads. Here are some samples from their site:

http://www.boojeebeads.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30443

http://www.boojeebeads.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=29826

Of course, while I tried to pick out a wide range for my selections for these samples, I'm sure my choices are, to some degree, based on my own aesthetics, so even if you don't like the samples I've shown, I'd encourage you to go to the sites and check out the offerings yourself.

I would'nt wear a lanyard or a fanny pack even when they first came out I thought they looked really bad..I also wouldn't wear croc's.

I also wouldn't wear a tee shirt or sweat shirt. to me there look sloppy

Do I care if you wear them not really. I may think to myself that it looks dumb. But so what if you like it then thats all that matters.

So I was thinking of the Cuban Wallet and decided to go look around the internet.... and this is what I found. You could probably hold more than a card in these! :D

Not all articles of cruise clothing have these convenient storage areas. A woman wearing a bikini on the lido deck does not have pockets. Go back to your store!

Possibly true...but I've never seen someone in a bikini that did not also have a bag close by and/or a cover-up.

My husband and I were just having the lanyard discussion today. We are cruising with our 5 kids and I think the younger ones will have to have a lanyard or risk losing their card. Do you think Carnival provides lanyards for kids?

...........

mominwestlake,

I have Carnival Casino lanyards for each of our sons. While waiting to board the ship I punch holes in their cards and attach them to the lanyards. So far they've never lost a card nor have they been locked out of their rooms.

You can get free casino lanyards from the casino after you board, but sometimes you have to wait until after sailaway when the casino is open to catch someone working the casino desk. Sometimes they'll just be laying around in the casino.

A couple of years ago I bought a beaded one on a Carnival cruise and loved it. Last year I wore it on a Disney cruise. You would not beleive the compliments I got... I was in a shop on the ship and the cashier came up to me and told me I had to take it off, I was shocked at first and asked why? She said" Because everyone else in the store wants one and wants to know why we dont stock those". lol

Are all you guys who wear lanyards the same ones who decorate your doors/balconies with the crappy dollar store garbage, making the ship look like a cheap trailer trash/dormitory hall? (I can only shudder at the thought of what the ship would look like if everyone decorated their door with crap)

Would you wear your license/credit card/car keys around your neck while at home because it is convenient and you "don't care" what others think (why only on vacation if it is such a great idea...do you not care what your co-workers/neighbors think, but will look like a $&*$@ amongst those you will probably not see again)? Is it really that difficult to carry a wallet/purse/etc. to carry the card and other valuables as you would at home?

Do you wear logo tshirts, white athletic shoes and dark socks or crocs in port because you don't care what others think? (believe me, the locals are laughing at you and can pick you out like a tourist from a mile away.) When in Europe, the cruise ship tourists who dressed as above were an embarrassment to those who tried their best to look like other Europeans..."when in Rome...", and were laughed at by the locals and targeted specifically by pickpockets).

I do agree, it is your vacation and you can look like whatever you want. If you don't care, fine. If your appearance is not important to you, fine. If you want to wear crap clothes (meaning cut offs, baseball hats, sleeveless t-shirts etc. ) in the MDR, fine. It certainly will in no way harm any other person's vacation, and I will support your choice to do so. It will, on the other hand, give me great pleasure to point you out to myself, and others in my silly group who take fun at pointing out the stupid things others do. Is it shallow, you betcha. If it is your right to do what you want, it is also my right to get a kick out of making fun of you. (ofcourse, never openly)

So, please keep wearing inappropriate (IMO) clothes, act a mess onboard , pig out at the buffet (when you clearly show that lack of food control is an issue in your past). I will will enjoy my cruise, and will fully support you in doing whatever (within the rules of the ship) will make you get the absolute best cruise possible.

Was this post politically incorrect, pretty sure. It is what many would love to say, absolutely sure. Flame away, also your right, but keep in mind, all you door decorating-lanyard wearing-crap clothes wearing-chair saving-matching tshirt loving-live to find out what the food will be on each night-bring nine colored pens to highlight the funtimes-ask the same question as has been asked 10,000 times-get your panties in a knot over smoking (no, I am not a smoker)-find the need to post on EVERYTHING whether or not you have anything new or of value to say just to build your post count....pick one or more of the above............

keep in mind that it is my right to really not care! Cheers to you all with wishes for the very best in what makes YOU happy. I support you all and wish you all happy cruising or just thinking about this very best of vacations.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. I don't begrudge anyone the little things that make their cruise fun for them.

This is laughable. Believe me, no matter how hard you try to look European the locals know exactly who you are and where you are from. I personally am going to wear shoes that accommodate my poor, hurting, tired feet, and trying to look "when in Rome" is hilarious to the ones who really live there.

I brought the "spiral string things" we got in Vegas, that had a key ring on one end and a clip thing on the other. Punched a hole in S&S card and slid it on the key ring. DH and the boys, just clip it to the belt loop on their pants and put the card in their pocket. I clipped mine to the strap on my tote bag and threw the card inside, whenever I needed it I would just pull on the string to fish it out.

I did bring 2 separate ones for DS and DS, but realized at age 2 and 7, they never needed the card without me being around, so I just put their cards on my "spiral string thing.":D

I wear my lanyard with my Sail and Sign attached...with pride...otherwise I will lose it. I am on vacation and I absolutely refuse to carry a purse around the ship all day. I take it off at port calls and do have a cross chest purse for that and at dinner each night I have a black beaded credit card size purse that I put it in (only cause I do dress up each night and I think the whole red stretchy lanyard does nothing for my look). I dont see the problem or why it bothers others where and how I keep up with my Sail and Sign card.

I keep mine & DF's S&S cards in our beach bag for the most part. I carry a beach bag with us when we hang out on the Lido Deck & when we get off at the ports. When we go for dinner at the MDR, DF keeps his in his pocket, and I keep mine in my wristlet.

I have nothing against those who choose to wear a lanyard. I probably would too if I didn't carry around a beach bag (we travel with our toddler so a beach bag is key).

Actually its what we are told as American Military Dependants living and traveling abroad. Rule number one is DO NOT STAND OUT! Blend in! That means no cowboys hats or boots, no T-shirts w/ logos, no short shorts and no cleavage exposing tops. I lived in Germany for nearly 10 years and traveled to several European countries while I was there. I learned enough of the language to get me by and I learned enough of each culture to help me not stand out so much. It worked then and it so far has worked since I moved back to the states in 2001. And yes I am sure someone can pick me out as a tourist, since I dont look European. I dont have the mannerisms of a European, however, I can try to look less like a target.

Lanyards around my neck are absolutely just NOT my style. I wouldn't be caught dead in one.

I always have some type of bag or purse with me and that where my card will be. I do get it punched in the casino with one of their springy coil thingies and will occasionally wrap it around my wrist but thats where it ends.
