Naughty Room

I was once called to the naughty room because they suspected I had brought a weapon on board. It turns out it was a menorah my family had packed for Hanukkah, which we had specifically obtained permission from the ship to carry on weeks prior!

 

It was pretty funny. "Sir, would you mind telling us what this weapon is?"

"The candle holder?"

Uh oh, what's wrong with scissors? Do they take them and if so do they give them back?

 

 

I'm on a month long vacation to visit with family and I brought my sewing machine and supplies, including expensive shears and scissors. TODAY I decided to join my MIL and SIL on their cruise in 2 weeks and will fly home directly after. This of course means I need to bring everything I brought with me on the cruise including the sewing machine and scissors. It never even occurred to me that this may be a problem?!

 

I think that I would UPS or FEDEX the stuff home. You may have trouble getting any of it on the ship.

How do they actually call you to the room? Do they call your name out loud for everyone to hear? Or something? I still haven't decided if I'm smuggling or not.....

Scissors fall under the "prohibited" catagory not the "confiscated" catagory. These items are disposed of, not returned. Security detected scissors in one of our bags and we were called to the naughty room to be present when they opened it. The scissors were taken away even though they were within the posted guidelines (less than 4"). We had to use nail clippers to trim DH's stache for snorkeling. What a pain. The funny thing is right under the scissors were a couple of rum runners which they completely missed. :p

I had a bag serched I guess because of knitting needles. My bag arrived with a letter advising it was openned and searched. Of course, under the needles and yarn was my 3rd bottle of wine, and it did not get removed, :D

It tends to vary a bit. On some of the ships they will use the PA system to request XXXXX guest report to Guest Services where they're met by security. On other ships a note is left in the cabin to the same effect.

I may use BV instead of smuggling as well, but only for convenience: I don't want my luggage to take any longer than it must to get to my room.

 

However, when I really think about it, what's the worst that could happen? They're not gonna chop you into little pieces and eat you! They would just take away your delicious contraband. That would be disappointing, but not catastrophic.

well, they certainly cannot shoot you at dawn.

 

BV is the way we have gone on the past couple of voyages. We smuggled for 10 years without an issue and I mean cases of beer by itself in a suitcase. Didn't even try to hide it.

Now - not worth the hassle of having to carry the bag around before it gets confiscated.

 

Oh well - still cannot hardly wait for 7 splendid days at sea!

How strange. I've heard of woman (typically older women, I'm only 25) who go on cruises and have sewing/quilting groups on board. I could put them in my MIL's suitcase and blame it on the old lady, lol.

 

It's actually looking like I'll be flying back with my family instead so thankfully I won't need to take all of that stuff but I find it a bit ridiculous.

I was asked to come to the "naughty room" on my 4/9 Inspiration cruise. Security called my cabin phone and indicated that I had prohibited items in my luggage. I was told to meet security on Deck 3 forward. I was then met by security and escorted off the ship to a cargo area. My bag was unlocked and I don't believe it had been opened.

 

The rep. sent my bag through x-ray and pointed out that I had scissors in my bag. I took the scissors out of the bag and gave them to the guy running the x-ray machine. These were small metal scissors with a 1/2 inch blade and rounded tip. He rolled his eyes and gave the item back to me. I was allowed to keep the scissors and the rep. apologized for the trouble. I was given the option to either send my bag through normal delivery or take it on the ship myself. After all that, I took my bag myself.

If you stop and think about the time involved and the volume of luggage that has to be processed, and by processed I mean handled, stacked, run over by the dogs, scanned, inspected etc. there is no way they can do a complete search/scan of every bag.

I am convinced it is the luck of the draw as to weather or not your bag gets searched/scanned............and being a gambler I'll take those odds.:cool:

My nephew got called to the naughty room on the Ecstasy last year...he was on his honeymoon. They gave him the option of bringing the furry handcuffs back to his car or throw them away. He chose the latter.

 

but....they let him keep the whip :eek:

 

He called my BIL from the ship to tell him the he story...he said he really needed a drink after that...:D

I use a TSA lock mostly to keep the zippers from coming open and everything falling out. Will security be able to open a TSA lock? Not taking anything suspicious, just curious. :cool:

 

The last time we flew the TSA locks that were on our suitcases were gone when we got home. Nothing missing except for the locks.

 

I am under the impression that only TSA people have keys that can open those locks.

They will call you to Security to open your bag if it's locked. If it's not locked they will open it, confiscate whatever is confiscatable (is that a word??), insert a note and send the bag on to your cabin...

Ours were not locked and they were kind enough to ask us to come down to the crew deck.........they let us take the stash back to the car.....

I'm going out of Galveston next month, I'm wondering if they are more strict than they have been in the past. I have taken several bottles of wine on with no problems, as well as a bottle of liquor. This time, I'm going with a couple of girlfriends, and we are debating buying a piece of luggage at a thrift store, putting a case of beer (or two) in it, and crossing our fingers for the best. I'm hoping this works and we can just trash the luggage or use it for souvenirs or dirty clothes. Our cruise won't be ruined if it's confiscated, but has anyone had luck with that strategy lately? :)

What if it just has zip ties on it? Will they call you down or will they just cut the zip ties and open?

On our last cruise (March), when we received our luggage, my husband's bag had a note in it where they had confiscated a clothes iron (we had packed it for use in the pre-cruise hotel). His bag was locked with a TSA lock. The paper explained they had removed the iron and gave us instructions for reclaiming it on debarkation day. That's the only contraband we've ever had, we don't smuggle soda or alcohol. :)

Okay I searched older posts, but wanted updated advice. If you do not lock your luggage, will you be called down to the naughty room, or will they just remove the contraband? Also has anyone ever been to said naughty room? What exactly is it?
