Day 3 - Labadee - Have we been here before?

I got up around 7:30 in the morning (on the new time). My left leg was hurting a little to bear weight on it. I always pay attention when this happens because:

1) It doesn't happen often

2) I broke the left femur bone in half in a car accident 14 years ago and had to be in traction and then have a titanium rod inserted (still there) with clamps, pins, etc.

Of course, being the stubborn idiot that I can be sometimes, I figure the solution is to go run on the jogging track and it will "work itself out". The ship was stationary at the pier and it wasn't crowded on the track at all. I had a nice view the whole time.

5647069709_0352f46dd6_z.jpg

I ran about 5.5 miles before I decided it wasn't getting any better. Stubborn for sure. I then went back to the room to get ready to go to Labadee.

This is our first cruise here since they built the pier. I can't believe how much it has changed since we were last here. Everything about it seems different.

Here's the wife all ready to go

Here I am all ready to go

At 9:30, we depart the ship

And Here we are fixing to get on the island

Day 3 - Labadee - We're on Land!

In case anyone wasn't following along, we're at:

5646996855_1d1355b557_z.jpg

Either my memory is completely shot, or these walkways are new to us. I like them.

5647562574_495c89381b_z.jpg

For some reason, I've always liked Cococay better. I think maybe I've changed my mind now.

5646995853_baa75186d3_z.jpg

The first thing we did was go up this

5647003255_b9b26eee18_z.jpg

Had a nice view of the ship

5647570824_9a7b29dd16_z.jpg

I like these little areas that had setup to sit at

Day 3 - Labadee - Are we at Labadee or Glamour Shots?

As I mentioned earlier, my wife's aunt and uncle were on the cruise with us. He is into photography like me, but also shoots the occasional wedding (he did ours), graduations, etc - so he likes to take pictures of people posing.

After a while, I really did think we were at Glamour Shots.

5647000185_70851f15be_z.jpg

It was nice though, because usually we come back from a cruise with 1,000 photos and I'm in like 5 of them

5647569662_b16c376a31_z.jpg

Any guesses what we are looking at here? -- that's right, it's water . . .

5647007921_10dc4a77da_z.jpg

Care to take another guess of what we are looking at? -- that's right, it's water again. . .

5647011425_1326bcf06a_z.jpg

Whenever possible, I try not to miss a chance to get a picture of myself hanging from something. I don't know why, just seems pretty dramatic if you ask me

5647012859_ebef5e1261_z.jpg

In this situation, my wife thought a fish "might" attack her. I couldn't find any fish around

Day 3 - Let's relax

Well, all in all we wondered around for about an hour and a half exploring and taking pictures.

Know what were looking for here? The food pavilion of course!!

5647604254_f4b8c0e6b0_z.jpg

This isolated palm tree looked destined to fall one day, so we did our part to hold it up for a short time. Notice how I don't look so tall next to the tree.

5647615374_ee28645dc8_z.jpg

We wondered by one of the swimming areas

5647053839_0fee0de7cc_z.jpg

After doing all this, we decided it was time to find a seat.

5647612680_e636b09323_z.jpg

Wanted to make sure we had something with a view and this worked perfectly

Here's the token shot of me in the chair

Day 3 - Labadee - Bring on the food (and the Labadoose's)

They were serving lunch on the island from 11:30 am to 1:30pm.

5647060715_0be0f822cd_z.jpg

We went around 11:45. They had a nice variety of BBQ type foods and desserts

5647061937_78d6aeb6ee_z.jpg

I just made a small plate. I don't like to eat too much when it's hot. Everything was good, except I didn't care for the taste of the chicken - that might just be me though.

5647629628_74d0e9fa0e_z.jpg

After this, a kind gentleman came by. What could he be offering?

5647066921_2d6cf41606_z.jpg

A yes, a labadoose

5647621522_e37a5a0075_z.jpg

You know what's better than 1 labadoose? 2 of course! (non alcoholic for the lady of course)

Day 3 - Back to the ship

Around 2:15, we decided to go back to the ship

5646994685_cf7699de26_z.jpg

This was a good time to go back, as it wasn't very crowded

5647070715_0ef92d5ebe_z.jpg

Forgot to post this earlier, but for those of you who need it, here's a map of Labadee

5647616556_d6945ab7a6_z.jpg

Once onboard, we thought this would be a good time to go to the solarium, since there were so many people on the island. We had no problem finding a seat

5646214979_8cbe8d093f_z.jpg

Around 3:30 pm, we decided to head to the Windjammer for Tea time

5647636046_b2e3103686_z.jpg

Everything I had was good except for that brownie - Do . . Not . . Get . . That . . Brownie! (beyond dry and not sweet - crumbled to pieces)

Remember International Ice Cream Wars? Still going strong

Day 3 - Evening Time

After finishing up in the Windjammer, we went up to the pool deck for some R and R

5647075313_25ef641c22_z.jpg

Stayed up there for a while, got a nice shot of the sun being all dramatic (or is the cloud the one being dramatic?)

5647638210_a65dc4a242_z.jpg

After a while, I got this pick of the sunset

5647078643_a4bdaa9210_z.jpg

After this, we went back to the room to clean up. Upon leaving the room, I went by the theater to see who was performing tonight. My wife stayed at the room

5647644692_0a8544b8c6_z.jpg

Then I went up to the Viking Crown area for the Nightly Diamond Event and to do a little photoshop work.

Day 3 - Labadee - It's Showtime

At 6:50pm, we went to the show. Had no problem finding a seat.

The show started out with a cruise director

5647084735_fd0b3e409c_z.jpg

I don't remember the name of the performer, but I think it was in that sign I posted earlier

5647087391_77b2882488_z.jpg

She had some audience participation

5647660014_146213bc84_z.jpg

5647103721_fb270cd1f7_z.jpg

She had performed in Branson, Missouri for a while

5647662062_59995cd513_z.jpg

Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a good show and she had a good voice. I don't know if it would be everyones thing, but the crowd enjoyed it.

Up next Dinner time. . .

Day 3 - Dinner Time

After the show, we headed off for dinner

I had the casesar salad. I also tried a small piece of someones crab cake. I think I would get it next time.

5647671098_fcd118e2d8_z.jpg

For dinner, I go the beef stroganoff. Several people at the table got this, but I seemed to be the only one that liked it. It does look (and taste) quite a bit different than any other beef stroganoff I have had. I never had one that was so red (it did have just a hint of a kick, but not spicy by any means)

5647671992_26c09f1e12_z.jpg

For dessert, I had the lemon pie with a scoop of vanilla

5647674568_ec37f55ab1_z.jpg

and the berrimuso

5647675774_1cac329ae9_z.jpg

The lemon pie was good. The berrimuso wasn't bad, it just really didn't taste like anything.

After dinner, we got another balloon animal

Day 3 - Labadee - After Dinner

After dinner, we went back to the room and I saw the moon was out. I didn't have a tripod, but I still gave it an attempt

5647108703_2f24f005b4_z.jpg

We wondered around the ship for a while

5647669858_957035fe95_z.jpg

Visited the casino briefly

5646757422_d8c6e60369_z.jpg

We finally packed it in around midnight and went to bed.

That's it for Day 3! I can't believe I got through writing a whole day in one setting! If you're still with me. . .

Yay thanks for my fix :). Labadee looks pretty cool... does Cococay serve drinks in those souvenir cups too? I really like the cups and want one, hopefully I can get one at Cococay too :).

We definitely plan to check out the Solarium on port days... I bet that's about the best time to go and it won't be so crowded, it all looks so beautiful from your pics.

And I love, love, LOVE the pic of the moon and the clouds. So incredible.

looked like a great day at Labadee.

Yes it was :)

I'm still with you! Your pictures are amazing! How did you get to that to that area in Labadee where they had all that seating and you took those pictures?

If you see the picture at the very beginning of the Labadee photos I posted, the one with that stone ramp (it is very close to where you get on the island, easily visible), just go up that ramp and keep following it around, you will come to the seating. If you go past the seating, it eventually takes you to dragons breath area.

Yes - Cococay does serve drinks in souvineer cups. They call the "Cocoloco's" :)

Ignore the naysayers - keep the detailed posts coming!

Labadee sure looks different than it did when I was there last (2009).

Thanks :)

Definitely way different than the last time we were there.

No problem. On the map below, if you see where the dock meets land, it is those yellow paths just to the left of it.

Looks like you don't have long now until your cruise. Have a great trip! :)

I think we have been stalking Sim...comletely unintentionally! We had him on Granduer once, and Navigator twice...and now we have booked Jewel (quite a ways off, maybe he will have moved on...especially once he sees the passenger manifest:eek:) These are the only RCCI cruises we have taken in this century...so what are the chances!?? If he is on Oasis in December I really do have to figure out what is going on!! Anyway, we do love him, super funny and energetic...hope you did too.5646383267_8f076d2503_z.jpg

They serve the Coco Loco (great drink!) in the same souvenir cups, one blue and one tan, at Coco Cay. :)

That's funny! We had a few repeat Cruise Directors, but not many. We have gotten the same guest entertainers on 3 different ships in a row before.

We did think he did a good job :)
