magic1 Posted May 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2011 I am taking my 19 year old son the the Dream in September for his Graduation trip just the two of us. While he is excited about going with his dad he is afraid he is going to be bored because he won't have that much to do, especially the days at sea. Too young to gamble--too old for the teen clubs. Not new to cruising (15th cruise) but never on the Dream. Anyone been and whats there to do for an 19 yr old adult who is not considered an adult.... Colorado Kat Posted May 21, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2011 I took my 19 year old daughter on the Dream in January. She was always busy, and had a great time. She went to the shows at night, and the comedy clubs, and then spent time at the dance club. There was a group of 15 or so roughly the same age that hung out together. Since they were so busy at night, her days at sea were spent lounging, and dozing in the sun. They have a sport court, and mini-golf. Walking track, and nice gym with lots of work out machines. Hot tubs. Pool.
richandash10 Posted May 21, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2011 19 is old enough to go to the casino on Carnival, 18 is the age. All of the adult clubs and lounges are also open to him. There will be plenty for him to do. And as a 19 year old guy, there's lots of people watching to do for him. ;)

She saw it as a form of entertainment. She budgeted $20 a night. She won some and lost some. And as mentioned above, he will have lots of people watching time, I'm sure. :p

pe4all Posted May 21, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2011 I am not sure how many other 19 year olds will be on board in Sept. Most will be in college/working, and not able to cruise at that time. Supposedly CCL is setting up meet and mingles for the 18-20 year olds - haven't seen one yet for dd19. She did love the casino, and learned how to play blackjack alongside her dad! magic1 Posted May 22, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted May 22, 2011 Thanks everyone for the help. Like I posted it's been awhile since I was on Carnival so was not aware of casino age and he loves the comedy things. I think he will have a great time particularly out from under his mothers eye ;)
truchattycathy Posted May 22, 2011 #10 Share Posted May 22, 2011 You can also join the roll call for your cruise. I did and found out several college age kids will be sailing with their parents when we are. We have already talked about a meet and greet for the college age kids. Umbarger Posted May 22, 2011 #12 Share Posted May 22, 2011 Teenagers are so spoiled anymore. If I read one more thread wondering if a teen is going to be bored I think I'll scream. If I got to cruise when I was a teen I would be on cloud nine. 4 star dining, all the food you can eat, ice cream and at the same time seeing tropical ports of call I've never been to before. I mean really. Being bored would be the last thing I would be worried about.

SadieN Posted May 22, 2011 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2011 At 19 he can participate in all the adult activites except drink alcohol onboard.
AandBmom Posted May 22, 2011 #15 Share Posted May 22, 2011 At 19 he can participate in all the adult activites except drink alcohol onboard. And according to a popular thread going on right now on CC he can't go on the Serenity Deck w/o getting an evil stare down. Although I'm sure he'd have more fun on the other decks anyway where he's likely to meet other teens/young adults.

That was in the last few months where they allowed 18 year olds to sail by themselves. I was with 2 other friends, and we had no problems meeting others. I see A LOT of posts complaining that the 18-20 year olds are the "lost group". I don't get this. They can participate in all activities. The only things they can't do are drink and go to the Serenity Deck (I don't even want to go to the Serenity Deck lol). Most 18-20 year olds are in college (or about to be) or working. They should have the social skills to meet others. You have a group for 18-20 year olds, what's next? 21-25? 26-30? 31-40? To be fair, I do think a lot of the "lost group" comes from people not understanding that the only thing 18-20 year olds can't do is drink (or go to the Serenity Deck). 18+ can gamble and go to the clubs, and many don't realize that. meatloafsfan Posted May 22, 2011 #17 Share Posted May 22, 2011 He can go to the adult clubs, the comedy clubs, kareoke, the casino, the piano bar, the evening shows, he can sit out on any deck in the sun, he can ride the waterslides, go in the pools, go in the hot tubs, there is so much he can do - don't focus on what he can't (go into the teen clubs)
