Pre-Cruise Hotel Ft. Lauderdale

We've booked the Embassy Suites as well but I didn't realize there was a shuttle from the airport. There are 8 of us so the shuttle will be perfect! We're not renting a car but will be in FLL for 2 days before sailing - if anyone has suggestions of that to do in FLL with teenagers - I'd appreciate it!

I've solicited info on the FLL thread too but still looking for activities. The water taxi sounds fun but there's 8 of us! The beach will be nice too. Catamaran, maybe?

Thanks everyone!

One thing you can do is take the "Sun Bus" (I think that is what it is called.) It was $1.00 per person. You can ride it throughout the city full circle from where you get on as use it as a tour bus. The driver will point out places of interest. One of the places it will pass is the beach area. Ft. Lauderdale has a large beach on the ocean. The beach area has lots of stores and eateries around it. It would be a fun day. In fact, that is how we will spend the day before boarding the Oasis in July.

There is a bus stop just outside of the Embassy hotel - anyone working at the desk would be able to direct you.

I don't think that particular Embassy offers airport pickup but a

taxi from the airport is only $15.

Embassy does sound nice but $275 is kind of high.

I'm not sure where you saw that price. We're currently booked at $169.99, but that includes three transfers from the airport to the hotel and then to the pier the next morning. The base rate for the room is around $120-130, depending on what discounts you might qualify for. I think I saw AAA around the $120 price, and there's even a cheaper price if you're willing to pay in full.

I just checked and for two adults, the cheapest price is $110.49 ("Great Getaway" - prepaid promotional rate, valid through September 5, 2011), next is AAA at $123.49, and the regular ("Best Available Rate") is $129.99.

Once you get your baggage from the baggage claim at the Fort Lauderdale Airport, you place a phone call to the Embassy Suites Hotel requesting the shuttle bus. It should arrive shortly; the hotel will tell you where to wait for the shuttle.

Hope this helps.

thank you for this info

I booked a room with them just last week; they do offer airport pickup - free of charge. After you arrive at the airport, pick up your checked in baggage, then call the Embassy Suites. Take their phone number with you. The Embassy Staff will tell you where to connect with the shuttle.

Just booked with Embassy Suites at 17th Street for our Seot pre-cruise. Talked with conciege desk. Was told that unless we bought a cruise package stay, ther is a fee of $7 pp for the shuttle pickup - from airport to hotel.

Figure Taxi would be way cheaper then. For folks who are able to get the ride for complimentary, wonder if driver does not ask for payment, or whether the $7 fee is a new policy ??

Has anyone stayed at the Reniassance on 17th or the Couryard on the beach. We have Marriott points and I was looking at these two hotels.

They are the same amount of points. Thanks!

I have stayed at the Renaissance many times before my cruises. I really like that hotel and have never had any issues at all. In fact we are booked for 2 nights pre cruise end of sept and managed to get the hotel on their website for $99 per night. Hard to get a hotel via Priceline for that price and this one we could cancel if need be.

Great location.

Sleepless,

Is this something new they started with free shuttle from airport to hotel? We stay there every year and it is not included at the regular room rate.

When was the last time you were there, oops seen your other post, yes they do have shuttle from airport to hotel but that is a package deal.

Thanks Dawn

We used Priceline for our hotel for a one-night pre New Year's Eve cruise and for a bid of $60 ($75.81 including taxes) we got the Ft. Lauderdale Marriott North. In the past, similar bids have won us the Hyatt Place South and Summerfield Suites in Dania Beach about three miles from the port.

Plenty of things to see and do in the FLL area including a casino or two if that appeals to you.:)

Unless you have a car, do not bid on a hotel in north Fort Lauderdale...this hotel is more than 10 miles from the port and airport so the 2 taxi rides combined will cost at least as much as the $75 hotel. Stick to downtown and airport zones, (or beach if you just really want to be at the beach and are willing to pay anywhere between $20-40 taxi fare each way since it's a very wide zone).

Any suggestions about getting from the Hilton to the port entry on the coast to watch the ships go out? We are coming in the day before and there are 4 or 5 ships scheduled to depart (includeing Oasis) and I would love to get to the harbor entry...is there a good destination to tell a taxi?

I know, kinda an odd request.....

Go to the Lago Mar Resort, walk their beach until you get to the rocks and that is exactly where the ships pass leaving Port Everglades.

Prices depend on the time of year that you're staying. I just checked the price of Embassy Suites for our March, 2012 cruise and the cheapest room is $246.
