I am not happy with this.:mad: Wonder if Carnival is using the violence angle for eliminating Mazatlan instead of the real problem: rising port fees.:confused: We haven't received the email yet. No...we are booked on the 9/23 sailing and both Mazatlan and La Paz have been eliminated and have been replaced by Manzanillo and another day at Sea. The direction of the sailing has also been flip-flopped as well. Instead of...at sea,Cabo, Cabo, La Paz, Mazatlan, PV, at sea, at sea. It's now at sea, at sea, Manzanillo, PV, Cabo, Cabo, at sea, at sea.

CupKayke Posted July 9, 2011 #9 Share Posted July 9, 2011 I'm glad they dropped Mazatlan. I could care less about LaPaz BUT another sea day?? Eh. I wish they would have thrown in a day on Catalina Island instead of all those sea days. I don't like how we are going to PV before Cabo ~ that was a surprise. My relatives are not going to be happy with another sea day ~ they cruise A LOT (like 4 or 5 times a year, off to a Danube River cruise this week) ~ they are saying we should get a credit for such a drastic itinerary change and with yet ANOTHER sea day... I don't know. I like days at sea but not THIS much.... why not give us Ensenada or Catalina or at least one other day in PV??? Hmmmm The west coast of Mexico is a mess. I can't believe we booked this cruise without researching first. It is what it is and we shall have fun, regardless!! :D

bflohr Posted July 11, 2011 Author #16 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Ensenada more safe then Mazatlan. Realy? Come on. What has Mr. Carnival been smoking? I'm going to have to rethink my Feb 2012 vacation plans.
CupKayke Posted July 11, 2011 #17 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Ensenada more safe then Mazatlan. Realy? Come on. What has Mr. Carnival been smoking? I'm going to have to rethink my Feb 2012 vacation plans. You are correct about Ensenada. I just want to say that. Lots of Mexico advocates will disagree with us but the entire situation down there is a mess. They had armed guards escorting the Hawaiian cruisers to Ensenada this year ~ couldn't believe it when I read the reviews. I feel like Carnival can't make me happy ~ I don't want too many sea days but I don't really want Ensenada. Why not give us Catalina Island?? And for the record, I was happy about Ensenada at first ~ until I remembered all the stuff about it ~ and my husband told me he doesn't want to get off the boat ~ and I went and re-read the Hawaiian blog/review. My husband is hoping they turn the boat around and make it a Pacific Northwest Cruise ~ Victoria, BC, Oregon, Seattle, San Fran.... One can dream I suppose!! WINEMANVISALIA Posted July 11, 2011 #18 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Sorry, Mazatlan: Carnival Cruise Lines Will Continue to Steer Clear of Troubled Port (1:45 p.m. EDT) -- The Mexican Riviera can't catch a break: Due to "continued security concerns," Carnival Cruise Lines has extended its decision to steer clear of Mazatlan, according to a statement provided to Cruise Critic. The decision affects itineraries for Carnival Splendor and Carnival Spirit. Word first surfaced on the Cruise Critic boards that Carnival had adjusted its fall itineraries for the two ships; in recent months, Carnival, Holland America, Disney Cruise Line and others have canceled visits to the troubled port following a spate of violence tied to the escalating drug war. Several weeks ago, Princess Cruises took it a step further and canceled calls to Puerto Vallarta. Both Carnival Spirit and Carnival Splendor, however, will continue to call in Puerto Vallarta. Spirit's nine-day itineraries from San Diego and Los Angeles will also include two days in Cabo San Lucas and stops in Manzanillo and Ensenada; the season runs September 2011 to March 2012. (Note: A previously slotted stop in La Paz has been replaced with a sea day, but not because of safety concerns. Instead, it was scrapped because the addition of Manzanillo made it geographically difficult to keep.) Meanwhile, Splendor -- operating seven-day voyages year-round out of Long Beach, California -- will spend two days in Cabo, in addition to the call in Puerto Vallarta. There's no word on when -- or if -- Carnival will return to Mazatlan. According to the statement, the line "will continue to work with the Mexican government and local officials to review their security plans for Mazatlan." --by John Deiner, Managing Editor

tonit964 Posted July 11, 2011 #20 Share Posted July 11, 2011 Just got an email from Carnival on July 8th regarding my 3/16/12 9 day cruise on the Spirit and they have scrapped Mazatlan and La Paz for Manzanillo and Ensenada. Princess has dropped Puerto Vallarta. Unfortunately, I think it is only a matter of time before the Mexican Riviera cruises are no more. :( Toni
lovevacadays Posted July 12, 2011 #21 Share Posted July 12, 2011 It's good that they are keeping passenger safety in mind. I do feel for the people in Mazatlan that rely on tourism for their income. I've used a few of the tour operators and had such a great time with them.

JJ2sail Posted July 12, 2011 #23 Share Posted July 12, 2011 I will miss Mazatlan also, but over 300 murders there last year, according to the US state dept kind of makes me think twice. Ensenada while not the best option, has improved their port tremendously over the last few years. I'v gone every year the last few years on the Paradise, and it looks better each year.
