Sauer-kraut Posted August 16, 2011 #77 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Looks like they got rid of the salad course and now offer salads as starters. I usually ask for my salad to be served with my meal after the appetizer. It usuallly works out but this last time we were 5 crammed into a 4-top and there was really no place to put the extra plate. It was really not the best set up.
DEBnGAB Posted August 16, 2011 #78 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Come on!!!! Seriously????Carnival has gone off the deep end. dvond Posted August 16, 2011 #81 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Here is what I do not get, as I can see the need for change and do embrace it, it does look they are going on the cheap; no shrimp cocktail, no lobster bisque at all and the addition of cheap foods like mac and cheese, meatloaf, chips and Salsa, its doe snot take a rocket schienctist to see what is going on. Now the ribs thing is odd, they are not that expensice but they are now on formal night where no one will now order this, crazy decision

Chigirlcruzin Posted August 16, 2011 #83 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Looks like they got rid of the salad course and now offer salads as starters. They did this a long time ago, prior to the new menus. I still order an app and a salad. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
rdler Posted August 16, 2011 #84 Share Posted August 16, 2011 When I was a little kid, my Dad was out of work for a while. My Mom was a good cook. Many nights she made Spam, Rice and Peas. She'd take Minute Rice, a box of frozen peas and a can of Spam, mix them together and then bake until warm. I would think that with the new menu, this would be a very good dish for Carnival. On Formal Nights, they could jazz it up with pasturized American Cheese.

theaterjunkie1976 Posted August 16, 2011 #88 Share Posted August 16, 2011 I'm not heartbroken over the loss of the shrimp. I love shrimp, but I've been on four cruises and have never ordered the shrimp cocktail. I prefer to try things I've never had before or something I can't get all the time. I like to think I'm adventuresome in my choices, but I don't think I will be enjoying frog legs, escargot or shark anytime soon! I think it is cool to have those options for those who may want to try those things, but there are many other options to chose from. I guess it is a good thing that Carnival is keeping the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake around...if the shrimp is causing such a fuss, imagine what would happen if the melting cake disappeared! There would be a riot!! :p
KRW71 Posted August 16, 2011 #89 Share Posted August 16, 2011 My last cruise was in 1997 so I don't really remember the menu but I know that I didn't go hungry and it looks like I won't go hungry when I cruise in about 300 days. BTW on my DH an my honeymoon cruise in '97 shrimp cocktail was not offered every night but our server or Mat. D knew we liked it so we got it every night without even asking.:)
bingo3 Posted August 16, 2011 #90 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Don't know what kind of mac and cheese some people are used to, maybe boxed, but REAL homemade mac and cheese is not cheap to make and on this menu, it includes chicken and bacon, so is really not just "mac and cheese". Anyone looked at the price of cheese lately? I can actually buy the same type frozen shrimp cheaper than I can make mac and cheese, I use a lot of cheese in mine, then there's eggs, butter, canned milk and the pasta. Will be interesting to see what Carnival's is like.... I think the menus look good, good variety. If someone is fortunate enough to cruise often, then it would be hard to come up with something different for those folks as they have probably seen/eaten it all before. I was thinking the same thing. My mom used to make a macaroni and cheese casserole that I loved as a kid and I was (and still am) a pretty picky eater. I don't think of the boxed stuff as macaroni and cheese, just like the box of stuff you add to ground beef does not make a meal.
Crystalbast Posted August 16, 2011 #93 Share Posted August 16, 2011 Man I am going to have a tough time on my next cruise. My Dr gave me 4 months to get my bad cholesterol down or it is prescription time to deal with it. I am really re-working my dining habits and walking more but it will be hard to figure out what I can eat on my cruise. I remember when salmon used to be a nightly choice and I wish it still was. I love salmon and eating grilled 2 or 3 times over the cruise would be helpful.
theaterjunkie1976 Posted August 16, 2011 #94 Share Posted August 16, 2011 I was thinking the same thing about the Mac and Cheese. Maybe my tastes aren't as "refined" as others, but I thought it sounded kind of good, lol! Again, I probably wont order it because it sounds like something that would be offered at any chain restaurant, and I prefer to chose things that l wouldn't normally have. It does sound a little more complex than just a box of Kraft "Cheese and Macaroni!" :)
