LPCKG Posted October 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2011 We are booked to sail on Mariner of the Seas next summer and need to book our flights. We will be flying from Manchester England and have two options: - Ryanair flying at 6.00am arriving at 09.50am into CIA airport; Jet2 flying at 07.00am arriving at 11.00am into FCO airport We have visited Rome on a few previous cruises and need (work commitments) to fly out the day we set sail. I'd be really grateful to hear from anyone who has taken either of the above flights on departure day and could offer advice on how they got on and what their transfer experience was like. Not sure if either airport is 'better' to arrive at and if the arrival time affects that preference? Also anyone know if RCI offer transfer options from both airport? CruiserBruce Posted October 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2011 If you read down the board you will see many recommendations for transport. The airport doesn't really matter when you are talking private transfers. RCCL will offer transfers, possibly only from FCO. Rarely are these the best deal, but they aren't bad. euro cruiser Posted October 9, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 9, 2011 Ciampino is a little farther away, but not so much that it makes a material difference. It is a significantly smaller airport, so you may get out a little faster, but that's really dependent on how fast they unload the luggage from the plane. If you are using a private transfer, it really won't make a difference. If you are going to try and use public transit, Ciampino is a little more difficult than FCO; you'd need to take the bus to Rome Termini and switch there for the train to Civitavecchia. Rare fabnfortysomething Posted October 11, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 11, 2011 look at the real costs of the flights ie add ons-low cost airlines are notorious for extras such as baggage booking fees etc jet2 has a more generous baggage allowance and FCO airport being bigger has more transport links to the city including train[ you say you going straight to the port?] ryanair in particular has a very bad press for charging extra but they do have a good record of flight punctuality.CIA airport is further away and so transfers may cost more
