So so so mad right now

Snooping in a safe is not the same as snooping for Christmas presents.

And I don't believe that many people go snooping in other people's medicine cabinets.

My parents didn't have a safe :p

Seriously, I think it's creepy and I still don't believe that many people open other people's medicine cabinets. If I needed a Q-tip, I'd ask for one.

(I wish we could take a poll :p)

I learned early not to leave wrapped xmas gifts at home. my girls were

definitely snoopers. Our locked safe holds items that are personal or not for others to see.

Medicine cabinets; I just had a conversation with our local Police Chief.

The #1 drug problem in our area, town of 5,000, is perscription drugs.

Never worried about people snooping there. My meds are now in the

laundry cabinet:)

Hope the op can work out something with her birthday girl and they can

all enjoy the cruise.

First off I did not yell at the person I called, I called and talked to him. I am one of those people who speakers what is on my mind. I see no reason to lie or beat around the bush. Sometimes feelings may get hurt but I will never be accused of being dishonest or a backstabber, that is how I was raised and that is how I am raising my children. My oldest is a defiant child that has ADHD and oppositional defiance disorder. She has been in therapy since she was 8 years old to work on her issues and yes she is a pathological liar. You can't believe 1/2 of what she says at any given time, there is no reason for the lies, no one can figure it out, not even the director of adolescent psychology. It is sad since this behavior affects her socially with her friends ect. We live in a very small community less than 250 people on an island off the coast of CT/NY. So you may see why I was so upset that surprise was ruined, we only last year were able to take a family vacation, usually I travel with the kids with my best girlfriend and her kids or to my sisters house that is 12 hours away on our week long school vacations in the spring. My girls will be missing school to go on this trip, luckily for me my oldest has a 85.86 GPA, and that is with a 69 mixed in at our progress reports last week. I thought about canceling the trip but that would also punish my youngest and my husband who will celebrate a birthday the day after we return. So for now she is grounded. I am off to research excursions.

I'm sorry that you're having such a tough go of it with her :(

I truly hope you have a nice cruise.

[quote=LemurCat;31011382] It's just like making the assumption that your dinner guests are going to go through your medicine cabinet and you need to put the Xanax in the bedroom before they get there.

LOL so true!

now we find out that the 16yo who told the lie is known to be a pathological liar?

Yup. What's your point?? Just be thankful you don't have that situation to deal with....when I hear stuff like that I am humbled and greatful.

Of course my children have snooped for Christmas presents~ totally different situation. In fact, when they were little I told them go ahead and snoop for your presents.... and if you find them, your Christmas surprises will be spoiled and yes, my middle daughter has told me she regretted the year she found some of them in the spare dryer in the garage!

With that said, our bedroom and our safe are off limits... PERIOD. These are rules that my children have grown up with....it's called RESPECT AND PRIVACY. The same goes for them....I have NEVER snooped in their bedrooms and I have no intentions on doing so~

Based of your statement that EVERYONE DOES IT... I am guessing your a snooper :)

Same here . There is no reason for my kids to go into our bedroom. You said it "Respect and Privacy" . Our house rule is If the door is closed you knock before entering and that goes both ways .

Kids snoop, I think we all did it. I remember one year, finding all my Christmas presents, already wrapped. I very carefully unwrapped them to see what they were and then re-wrapped them.

Of course, my mother discovered what I did. They didn't return my presents, but my Christmas morning wasn't as fun as normal, since I knew what everything already was.

Sure, a safe is different then some presents, but snooping is snooping. Maybe the OP's daughter was doing it because she was curious, maybe she was looking for money or something else to take, or who knows.

It's the lying part that would have gotten me made. Blaming someone else for it, my asking them about it and then finding out none of it was true. I wouldn't take the vacation away though, because, as the OP said, it's not fair to the other family members. I had something like that happen to me when I was 14. Thanks to a cousin we had our vacation cut short and didn't get to go some amusement parks because of it. Over 30 years later and I'm still bitter about it. :p And don't think we let him forget about it either!!!;)

OP..Compassion and understanding towards the issues..you are not alone...but can feel that way..this issue exists...

and to folks who posted about danger of RX drugs and snooping..good idea to move your pain meds etc to another place for parties..and we just had one of the top school helping drug specialists in the nation here last year to work with parents kids and teachers and school systems and top resource of ten times stronger cooked up drugs are RX meds..starts with surgeons giving too much after surgery and at our high school we found out as soon as a kid had surgery..someone was on their cell wanting to buy half their meds...the problem is huge...sarah

I have read each and every post, the good the bad and the ugly. I have some good ideas now. I do appreciate all of the feedback and the time each poster took to read and reply. I also understand that maybe I should not have written this post here, but I am gratefull for the positive ideas that some have offered. I will let each of the girls choose an excursion as their birthday gift. I will also have to figure out how to change the combo to our safe. thank you everyone. I am now off to read the boards on each port of call we will be at.
